POPSTexting instead of sleeping
This is so disturbing. Social media has such wonderful potential, but seeing it used like this is depressing. Call me crazy but i would strongly consider advocating legislation that caps the number of text messages, tweets, status updates, etc. that a minor is allowed to send. God knows how many of them text while driving, putting us all at great risk. Between twitter and text messaging, society's use of social tools to stay connected 24x7 all day, every day just makes no sense to me. Seeing tweets about what people are doing, who they're with, where they're going, what they're eating, what they're watching just makes no sense to me. Who cares! Is there no joy in doing something anymore unless we can instantly tweet about it, upload a photo of it or broadcast it to our 'friends' on facebook? I think there is so much to gain from social media...so much to learn. But right now i feel like people are drunk on the idea and using it extreme ways that will look foolish in hinds

POPSFacebook 'enhances intelligence' but Twitter 'diminishes it' more: A number who started off close to the bottom of the class ended up near the top. ''It was a massive effect,'' said Dr Alloway, who today gave a talk on working memory at the start of the British Science Festival at the University of Surrey in Guildford. Video games that involve planning and strategy, such as those from the Total War series, may also train working memory, Dr Alloway believes. ''I'm not saying they're good for your socialisation skills, but they do make you use your working memory,'' she said. ''You're keeping track of past actions and mapping the actions you're going to take.''

POPSGet your personal lifetime phone number. Open an account with Google (if you didn't so far), get gmail address and choose lifetime personal phone number. You will connect all your numbers altogether with easy management and making calls from your contact books, even abroad, from any computer or iPod touch. It's look even more promising, than Skype, which after last Apple's update simply refuse to open and aborting at each attempt to use it. Skype on iPhone doesn't work, God knows why, even thru Wi-Fi. Even their own iPhone's headphones messed up, no telling about outside Bluetooth devices. Google "pretend" to be people's servant, not ripping-off crook from side of the road.

POPSThe Rip-Off Cellphone Industry Apple with its iPhone have shown us that that wireless industry is not about phones anymore but web communication and even web existence. When you can navigate with your phone, watch news and podcasts, read any newspaper or book right away, check current weather condition and even your own weight and overall health, stocks, bank accounts and e-mails from any domain, make pretty decent pictures and even movies, listen your favorite songs and movies on the go along with countless other unimaginable possibilities - our relations with our carriers must be honest and transparent. What's the point to cheat in digital era? To become mockery again and again? Besides off respondents in class-action suits?

POPSLOL: Iran’s “Boycott SMS!” “You don’t need 100 percent of consumers on board for a boycott to work effectively,” said the director of a major advertising firm in Tehran, who did not want to reveal his name. “Even a 20 percent drop in consumption is enough to hurt a company.” There are already signs that the boycott may be taking its toll on mobile operators. TCI shares on the Tehran Stock Exchange fell to an all-time low yesterday with a 6 percent drop over a two-week period, according to HAMNA, Iran’s mobile communication news agency. Iran Cell, the country’s largest private operator, has also sustained losses. A senior executive of this company, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Tehran Bureau that Iran Cell was losing “close to $250,000 a day” because of the drop in SMS volume. Text messaging had played a vital role in pre-election campaigning " largely conveying anti-Ahmadinejad jokes and pro-Mousavi slogans " and was used to disseminate information about grassroots effort

POPSIran to Media: No Cameras Allowed Authorities have barred all journalists working with foreign media from reporting on activities in the streets. This does not bode well for street protesters. Iran does not want the world watching when they start their push to quell these protests.

POPSThe Internet's affect on the Middle East It's all about awareness. Before the internet, people were kept in the dark about most of the world's harsh realities. But now, with cameras that fit on phones and a world that is digitally connected, people are becoming more and more aware...which is leading them to become less and less tolerant of their own oppression. By making it easier to spread information, news and ideas, the Internet is impacting the world in ways far greater than many people realize. It's not just about "hey, i just ate a hamburger." It's about a wide open exploration of people's lives all over the world.

POPSCriminals traced by text message grammar More: Scientists are now building up a database of text messages donated by volunteers to look at distinctive differences in style and language between individuals, which can be used to analyse anonymous messages from potential suspects. The researchers have collected around 8,000 text messages from almost 1,000 members of the public… "Pairs of text messages by the same author are going to be more alike. And where you get groups of people who text one another a lot, or pairs of people, their language becomes more similar. We're moving away from human-based expertise and opinion to a method which will make it easier to discuss things like error rates."

POPSTeens Talking Sex with Strangers Via Text Messaging
First there was Sexting the practice of sending nude and seminude images via cell phones to classmates and now there is actual sex talking going on. This really should not come as any surprise to the thinking adult who understands the evils of the world. I mean teens talk sex to each other in classrooms and garages and any other place where they feel safe from parental oversight. With the advent of the computer age and INTERNET messaging services, this sex talk took to international levels. Teens looking for someone who will listen and not judge them could not log on to the world and find someone somewhere who will understand them. Now with texting capabilities on cell phones the web has become portable. Where once parents could control their child's access to the Internet by monitoring their on line time now they must monitor their cell phone use. How about parents just cancel the texting function of their child's cell phone? And do they really need a phone with a ca

POPSThe End of Privacy? Are we unwittingly inviting big brother into our lives? The darkest fears we have of big brother is that ‘he’ can reach out to any one of us and control what we think and do. This ability to reach so many of us, and for such sinister reasons, is brushed off by the majority of people as fodder for Hollywood and the lunatic fringe. But read the article and take heed as to how we voluntarily give up bits of information on a daily basis. In hard economic times data collected on any of us becomes money to marketing firms. Are there any among us who naively believe that once trusted organizations won’t sell our personal information for a buck? And if the right reason presents itself to our government you can bet privacy laws will not stand in their way of obtaining any information they want about any of us. Homeland Security was founded to ‘protect’ us but won’t think twice about using data against private citizens when it comes to ‘national security’.

POPSSocial media to the rescue in Iraq Here's the basic message....'Look, back in the U.S. we're going through a horrible financial crisis, yet the people are happy as a pig in shit on twitter. You should see them..they're just tweeting and twirping their way through this here banking crisis. You just need to set up some social media sites and your people will be tweeting, watching silly YouTube videos and text messaging their way to happiness like nothing's wrong." Ok, i kid. Hopefully the creative minds that have headed over there can enable the Iraqi people to leverage the internet to connect with all sorts of information, ideas and efficiencies that help them move forward.
