Florida Care-Giver System Plagued With Felons
merrie
by merrie  10-1-2009    2
12 registered sex offenders and 200 people with histories of harming children. Exemptions are supposed to be granted only with proof of rehabilitation. But about 1,800 of the people approved " or one in five " went on to be arrested again, some within days of the state's determination that they could be trusted to care for vulnerable residents. "It's totally unacceptable. Obviously, this has become a huge loophole that needs to be closed," said Nan Rich, D-Weston, vice chairwoman of the Florida Senate's Children, Families and Elder Affairs committee. A sex abuse scandal at a Miami day care in the mid 1980s prompted the first of several state laws requiring background checks for caregivers and allowing for exemptions. Florida now has a patchwork system with glaring inconsistencies. Employees at day cares and facilities for the disabled undergo a nationwide criminal check. But caregivers for the elderly are checked only for offenses in Florida, with some exceptions.

Your Tax dollars at work. A detective cataloging evidence repeatedly put down her work to bowl. When she hit two strikes in a row, she raised her arms above her head, jumping and kicking. Kind of makes me wonder if all the drugs were categorized or taken home along with some of that stolen property. Ha ha on you Police jerks.

Good Stuff From The Late Great Pitchman
merrie
by merrie  7-1-2009
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — In stories June 28 and June 29 about the death of Billy Mays, The Associated Press misstated the relationship between the TV pitchman and one of his survivors. Mays was survived by a son, Billy Mays III, not a stepson. Copyright © 2009 The Associated Press http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iA6KTsRNVGrbol4WPQVV0hemWK7gD995VBI80

Are You, Or Have You Ever Been, A Member Of The Tea Party Coalition?
dl211
by dl211  8-16-2009    4
By pressing Armey to repudiate "Nazi imagery," some viewers might have been led to think that ObamaCare protesters are turning up in brown shirts, etc. In fact, of course, some protesters have analogized Dem leaders to Nazis. You can debate the wisdom of the tactic, but this is just the opposite of using "Nazi imagery" to embrace it. I'm not sure which video of Ybor City Maddow is referring to. The Tea Party web site has an entire page of videos, 39 of them. It includes this one of a demonstration in Tampa, but there is nothing vaguely violent about it. I did find another site with several videos from the event. While there is mutual finger-pointing aplenty, it seems clear that SEIU union members were at least as likely responsible for the brouhaha as anyone else. Morever, the protesters were angered about the fact that the Dem elected officials who organized the event used two doors: one to let in supporters, another apparently to keep out protesters. For Maddow to point the

"Accordingly, SEIU-endorsed Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius openly praised the union's drowning-out campaign against Obamacare critics in a teleconference call last week. She urged her "brothers and sisters" to keep doing what they were doing. SEIU healthcare chair Dennis Rivera of New York then railed against the "radical fringe" of "right-wingers," whom he accused of "terrorist tactics."

Lost Dog Saves Man With Down Syndrome From Nearly Fatal Seizure
merrie
by merrie  8-11-2009    4
"Don't fall in love with him," Yolanda kept warning. Her elder son, Christian, 21, watched through the window. Christian has Down syndrome and an array of other ailments. He has had heart surgery, a kidney transplant. He can't speak or bathe himself. That night, when the boys climbed into their bunk beds, the dog dragged his new bed from Yolanda's living room, down the long hall, into their room. "" Four days later, they still had the dog. He was starting to answer to his new name. He loved roughhousing with Azaiah, knew to be gentle with Christian. He almost never barked. On Saturday, Azaiah went to his dad's house. Christian retreated to his room to watch a Barney video. The dog dozed beside him. Yolanda had just stepped onto her porch to water the plants when the dog flung himself into the screen door, barking madly. As she opened the door, the dog sprinted across the living room, into the boys' room. Yolanda screamed. Christian was slumped over, his body

Sebelius Calls Her SEIU “Brothers and Sisters” To Battle; Dennis Rivera Decries “Terrorist Tactics”
merrie
by merrie  8-11-2009    2
Rivera closed by railing against the “radical fringe” of “right-wingers” and urged his “Purple Army” to fight “terrorist tactics.” Pot and kettle. Fun fact about Anna Burger’s staff from Culture of Corruption : Another Stern administration protégé, Annelle Grajeda, rose to power after the SEIU president installed her as president of the 80,000-member Local 721 in Los Angeles. She ascended to positions on the union’s state council and international executive board. Like Freeman and Jackson, Grajeda had been voted onto Stern’s official administration slate at the SEIU convention in 2008. The Times published damning details of how Grajeda’s ex-boyfriend, SEIU official Alejandro Stephens, collected multiple salaries and consultant fees from the union while also pocketing a salary as a Los Angeles County health services employee. Grajeda had arranged an eight-month leave of absence from the job on behalf of her ex-lover.

The Media Take Aim At ‘The Mob’
merrie
by merrie  8-8-2009    1
pro-government health care policies rallied at a town hall of their congresswoman, Democratic Rep. Kathy Castor. The constituents at events like Castor's are the same ones who organized anti-spending and anti-tax tea parties in the spring. The mainstream media at first ignored those grassroots displays of taxpayer outrage and turned to ridicule when the pesky protesters refused to be ignored. Both weapons exploded in their faces, so the St. Petersburg Times embraced the sniper rifle of subtlety in its coverage of Castor's town hall. Jon Henke of The Next Right heard the first shot -- the newspaper changed its story, literally -- and exposed the sniper. The Times (whose parent company once employed me at Congressional Quarterly) initially, and correctly, thought it fair to note that the Service Employees International Union organized a counter protest at Castor's event. The paper also included this explosive quote from an SEIU official hinting at plans to instigate trouble

More then sick. II am soooooo glad i moved away from Tampa Bay last year. Crime totally out of control. Just look at their daily mugshots to get an idea or subscribe to their rss feed. www.tampabay.com to get an idea. I think by far worse then any city in the usa. why ? because corrupted government and city officials and way they handle government. They will take any crime...even something as hideous as this. Judges may give them a year or two in jail and then 5 or so on probation. Why ? Because you have to pay the probation department for being on probation there. So it's all about the money and they could care less about the crime. Don't take my word for it. Look it up. Sentences rendered for anything from DUI, burglary, you name it. slap on wrist and put on probation so we can make money. Really surprised the federal government hasn't taken notice of this.

Murdered at 5 months old......Little life Lost

Long gone is the Norman Rockwell kind of world I was raised in. Back when life help meaning. Families were families with a true unshakable bond. Parents and Cops were respected, and it wasn't an act to try to reflect the warmth you held for humanity. Then the government stepped in. We could no longer have prayer in school...might offend a minority of people. No longer stood to do the pledge of allegiance.....that offended some that were not from this country. Even though child abuse may have been less then 1% children were taught if your parents spank you or correct you tell your teacher or somebody. So kids gained rights and the parents were left to have to deal with them telling to go f____ themselves. And now we sit back and wonder what happened. Why is society the way it is without a clue and looking dumbfounded. I am a very simple man, no more education then the average collage grad but don't have to be a brain surgeon for me to figure it out. Thanks Government.....
