POPSLast year I killed a man As I hit the emergency brake, I was thinking, "Please, get out of the way. Now. Please let it be a prank." Youngsters on the track are a regular event, though no less frightening for that, and for train drivers it's something we learn to live with.

POPSBoody Shirt an Icon of our Times It has been suggested that Batebi should meet with President Bush. Perhaps, that would give enough PR to the Admin to keep justiying an immoral war..."see, they are being persecuted over there, and they come to us for Freedom". It has also been posted in several reports that Batebi was sentenced to death for his "civil unrest". This report says 10 years. Either way, I personally am glad he got out and is free. All men have the right to be free and not to suffer. We just save save them all right now. It would be so great if everyone would just refuse to fight. All sides. Refuse to fight. But then that would leave the terrorists who will not refuse to fight...for their religion. Seems like the way to real peace, freedom and abolition of suffering is not to stop wars, but to stop religion.

POPSNew Program Aids Homeless Vets, But Not Nearly Enough The shelter that housed the two homeless Vets, called "Soldier On", was mentioned in an article from the Boston Herald today. Veterans in the Boston area and across the nation are getting some much needed assistance in securing their own rental homes, thanks to a new federal program. Last week, housing authorities from Boston to Northampton began issuing 245 rental assistance vouchers to chronically homeless veterans. In the Boston area, 1,950 former service members are considered homeless. "With the new number of homeless vets that we are creating because of Iraq and Afghanistan, this is focusing on their needs," said U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano (D-Somerville), who will make a formal announcement Tuesday

POPSRape: 'They looted my body like I was dead' "They kicked my breasts, which are still badly swollen. They took me to a graveyard and raped me again. When I was trying to stop them, they took a hot wire and burned my hand. They looted my body like I was dead. They took my ID card and all my money."

POPSMexican military involved in Phoenix home invasions? ``If you are not involved in smuggling humans, money or guns the other direction on the border, you're probably not going to be a victim of violent crime," Anderson said. ``From time-to-time, we have collateral damage and some very unfortunate situations, but the vast majority of our victims at this point are involved in this kind of activity."

POPSConfessions of a Wi-Fi Thief Some people thought of creative names for their networks: ParisBrooklyn, MessageInaBottle. Some were boring: linksys, NETGEAR, default. I was always happy to see the boring ones, because the people who don't bother thinking of clever names for their home networks are the same people who don't bother to password-protect them (A website called ThinkGeek.com sells a T shirt with a battery-powered wi-fi detector that displays the ambient signal strength wherever you happen to be standing. It's supercool, though if I'm too cheap to pay for broadband, I'm definitely too cheap to spend $30 on a T shirt.)

POPSTurn a T-Shirt into a sexy dress. It is of course immaterial that I have many, many fine t-shirt designs available at http://www.cafepress.com/webcarve and http:///www.zazzle.com/webcarve* Utterly beside the point.
