POPSTaliban Launches Large Coordinated Assaults The Taliban claimed responsibility for all three attacks in Khost. Their spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahed, reached by telephone at an unknown location, said that 15 suicide bombers, equipped with machine guns and vests packed with explosives, with 30 militants backing them up, attacked the base, one of the largest foreign military bases in Afghanistan. He claimed that some of the bombers had gotten inside the base and had killed a number of American soldiers and destroyed equipment and helicopters. This last claim was denied by General Azimi of the Afghan military.

POPSResurgent Taliban in Afghanistan Another result of "successful" troop surge in Iraq? As forces that could be used in Afghanistan continue to be diverted to Iraq the failure of the US/NATO Afghan war becomes even clearer.

POPSCluebat Applied to the AGW Again... Content Warning, but excellent Fisking of the AGW nonsense. A Sampling All traces of the Kiffian vanish abruptly around 8,000 years ago, when the Sahara became very dry for a thousand years. They must not have listened to Ugh Gore’s dire predictions when he chiseled out his rockumentary “An Inconvenient Twooth: How Woolly Mammoth Drivers Are Killing The Planet!”. The fools. Poor, ignorant fools.

POPSPlucky little Georgia? No, the cold war reading won't wash All is not what is what it looks like.... Cont: Devoted to achieving Nato entry for Georgia, Saakashvili has sent troops to Iraq and Afghanistan - and so clearly felt he had American backing. The streets of the Georgian capital are plastered with posters of George W Bush alongside his Georgian protege. George W Bush avenue leads to Tbilisi airport. But he has ignored Kissinger's dictum: "Great powers don't commit suicide for their allies." Perhaps his neoconservative allies in Washington have forgotten it, too. Let's hope not.

POPSLavena Johnson: murdered by her fellow soldiers, covered up by the army The take home lesson is that people will pay more attention to the cover-up of the killing of a white, male football star by his fellow soldiers more than they will a black, female soldier who gets raped, killed, and mutilaed by her fellow soldiers. This is is bad shit. We're talking Titus Andronicus bad. And the Army calls it a suicide. America, FUCK YEAH!

POPSPakistan: A Dangerous Neighbor Pakistan's military mounted a campaign to flush al Qaeda out of the tribal areas after the group was connected to multiple assassination attempts against Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf, but the military suffered so many losses that Musharraf eventually concluded he had no choice but to deal with his would-be killers. In March and September 2006 he consummated the two halves of the Waziristan accords, peace agreements that essentially ceded Waziristan to the Taliban and al Qaeda. Musharraf also cut deals with Islamic militants in the regions of Swat, Bajaur, and Mohmand. The treaties, punctuated with frequent skirmishes, symbolized Pakistan's inability to confront its extremists.

POPSU.S. Army Private LaVena Lynn Johnson, RIP In reality, LaVena Johnson was raped, beaten, and murdered by someone on a military base in Balad, Iraq, and the Army doesn’t want you to know about it. Army officers most especially didn’t want her parents to know about it, so they concocted the suicide story, informing them that their daughter had shot herself in the head in her barracks. When LaVena’s body was returned to her parents, however, her father, Dr. John Johnson, immediately noticed that her nose was broken and her lip was torn. He was surprised to discover that her gloves were glued to her hands (as it turns out, to hide burns). As a former military man himself, he also recognized that the exit wound from the bullet could not possibly have come from the weapon the military claimed LaVena used to kill herself. He knew then that the Army was lying to him, that his daughter had been murdered. He made these discoveries three years ago. Today, the Army is still lying to him, and to us.

POPSWas Dr. Ivins a "mad scientist"? This case presents a great many mysteries which may never be solved. The most troubling revelation, however, had nothing to do with Dr. Ivins. It has come to light that the White House, in the days following the attacks, pressured the FBI to blame Al Qaeda. That is a far more scary plotline than the story of a single mad scientist.

POPSAl-Qaida chief behind USS Cole attack killed... I've been out-of-pocket for a few days and what great news to find when I return. How long has it taken us to find this guy??? Those poor victims of that attack were not even honored by the presence of the then President who seemed to pretend that terrorist attacks where just isolated incidents. Thank you...whoever you were who got the job done.

POPSTaliban threaten suicide bombings in Pakistan Under the pact, militants agreed to recognize the government's authority and halt attacks in return for the release of prisoners and government concessions on implementation of Islamic law. Umar accused the government of violating the accord. He threatened suicide bombings and other attacks targeting the government and senior officials.
