POPSThe Marine Building - Vancouver (on Burrard St.) I used to work right across from this building. I went in once, and was just amazed. (of course i haven't seen much, but it's still beautiful) At the bottom of the page are links to see beautiful interior shots, as well as history on the building.

POPSSnake Boxing Very cowboyesque. As the snake "slithers across the dusty street" - you punch him in the face.

POPSStacking The Deck Against Kids "We still have a hideously dysfunctional public education system, one that has mastered the art of manufacturing dropouts and functional illiterates. We have not even begun to turn that around. We still keep fighting tragic, futile, stupid wars, squandering lives and resources and creative energies that could be put to use right here at home, where the need for nation-building is beyond critical. The U.S. should be a paradise for young people. We need big changes in this country, approaches that are constructive, creative and fundamentally new, if we’re going to give those smiling kids I saw on Thanksgiving Day the kind of society they deserve. " And those are what I call Family Values.

POPSDorothea Lange - Artist With Vision Beyond The Lens Of Any Camera (Errata Clog)
In response to my clog post entitled, "Strong Support For Health Care Reform With Public Option," I have participated in some discussions about the stunning work of Dorothea Lange. As many of you may know, Dorothea Lange is the photographer/artist who took the famous picture, "Migrant Mother," which is featured in my clog. I entitled this picture incorrectly as "The Dust Bowl," so please accept my apologies for this error. If any of my clogs ever contain incorrect information of this nature, I ask that my readers let me know right away. Aside from correcting errata, I wanted to take the opportunity to highlight Dorothea Lange's work further in the clips below. I clipped these bits from the My Hero website. Dorothea Lange is an interesting individual who, in my opinion, captured the class struggles in this country better than any artist of her day with a medium that was not then fully realized. Dorothea Lange died on October 16, 1965. If you are not familiar with the life

POPSGoldman Profits. Do We Lose? From tech stocks to high gas prices, Goldman Sachs has engineered every major market manipulation since the Great Depression - and they're about to do it again. In a brilliant article that appears in the current issue of Rolling Stone magazine, "The Great American Bubble Machine" by Matt Taibbi, we can see in all its gory and horrendous detail what is so wrong with "the invisible hand of the marketplace." From the article: “any attempt to construct a narrative around all the former Goldmanites in influential positions quickly becomes an absurd and pointless exercise, like trying to make a list of everything. What you need to know is the big picture: If America is circling the drain, Goldman Sachs has found a way to be that drain — an extremely unfortunate loophole in the system of Western democratic capitalism, which never foresaw that in a society governed passively by free markets and free elections, organized greed always defeats disorganized democracy.”

POPSJust Like in the Movies: Car Flies Into House The only individual home in the house was asleep on the couch and was not injured. The passenger was able to walk away from the wreck as well without injury. Only the driver was physically injured with small injuries to report. It is by far the home that has suffered the worst from the ordeal. With a gaping hole torn all the way down the front of the house, the house will be sorely out of commission for some time. Images of the scene show scraps of wood surrounding the Jeep as it sits nicely in the foyer. Art still hangs on the wall along the interior clearly visible from the street. The large home is almost ripped in half by the vehicle.
