REALITY CHECK!
ouyangwulong
by ouyangwulong  1-23-2008    7
There is a frightening new global trend of denial... Europeans think that they don't need to limit fishing... Car companies don't think they need to improve fuel economy standards... Bush thinks he can increase spending and cut taxes at the same time... Jingoists think we are winning the war in Iraq... Democrats think Hillary Clinton has enough experience to win an election... Polluters think that Global Warming won't really happen... Evangelicals think Jesus is coming back soon... Fundamentalists think they can win the war against modernity... The truth is: we're stuck with this world. The rules DO apply. No free passes. You have to face the music sometime. We must choose realism over comfortable delusion. Unfortunately, for now, wistful thinking will rule the day until we let it all collapse around us. Then we'll stand there scratching our heads saying: How could this happen?

McCain says he's too busy to vote for stimulus package
egoldstein
by egoldstein  2-6-2008    1
The whole "straight talk express" campaign of John McCain is so phony. This is just one example, but he is sure to get exposed for who he really is if he wins the republican nomination. I see him having little change against Hillary and absolutely no chance against Obama.

Bush claims no recession. We're Fu@ked
righthand
by righthand  3-1-2008    7
After 7 years of LIES and DECEPTION, who would you believe? Could he not be right just for once? Could he not say, just to save us all who need a recession like a month in Iraq, that there is a recession there is one. Then when he's wrong as usual, we can all be Ok! Might work. Can't be worse than now. Could someone not stop him popping up at every microphone that there is? It's past embarrassing.

Bill To Open Refuge To Drilling If Crude Hits $125
merrie
by merrie  3-30-2008    5
"The goalposts of what's reasonable have moved quite a bit lately," Halff said. "One hundred and twenty-five dollars is just $15 away. It doesn't sound quite as farfetched as it did a few months ago." But environmentalists say they're confident that Murkowski and Stevens simply don't have 60 votes in the Senate to overcome a filibuster that would allow the bill to be heard. It's equally unlikely that a Democratic-led House of Representatives would even consider hearing the legislation, said Myke Bybee, a spokesman for the Sierra Club. "No amount of oil and no amount of money is worth despoiling the Arctic Refuge," Bybee said. "I don't think there's support for opening up a special place like the Arctic Refuge at any cost, at any amount of oil or at any cost of oil."

by sahara  3-9-2008    1
Analysts say that the central bank may also have to lower interest rates when its policy makers meet on 18 March. The Federal Reserve has already slashed rates to 3%, from 4.25% at the beginning of the year to stabilise the world's biggest economy. "The Fed is going to ease monetary policy - the question is how often and how fast," said David Resler, chief economist Nomura Securities International.

"And here we are, with the rainy day our grandparents always droned on about appearing in the form of a deluge, and no savings stashed for it, and President George W. Bush, the debt-spender par excellence, conjuring up a $150-billion stimulus package that evokes the injection of steroids into a prone athlete wrecked by a marathon."

ridiculous "stimulus package," a last-ditch BushCo effort
papananook
by papananook  2-15-2008
Not having the disposable income of a hip young columnist/yoga instructor but still accumulating crap--ill-fitting clothes given by well-meaning e-wives, odd freaky books, tapes and assorted junk sent by friends who haven't a clue to my spartan eclectic taste--it becomes necessary every once in a while to do "the material plane shuffle" and sell, give away or dispose of the odd small air conditioner used in Alaskan summer, the unused DVD/CD player and the books on foreign policy by Henry Kissinger. With any luck, I can trade for a nice over-sized silk Hawaiian Aloha shirt, the gaudier, the better. But I still don't even know what an iPod is and don't WANT to know. ENOUGH STUFF! How can one evolve with all that crap holding you down?

The Tethlon Idiot of Economics
ouyangwulong
by ouyangwulong  1-23-2008
It's amazing how nothing sticks for this guy. Let's try to synchronize all his statements... 1.) Tax Cuts made our economy grow... 2.) We are now on the brink of a recession... 3.) Our economy is strong... 4.) We urgently need to save our economy... 5.) The government needs to spend more money 6.) The government needs to collect less taxes 7.) Tax cuts will help our economy now, just like they helped it over the last 6 years. IS HE TOTALLY INSANE? Please, tell me, someone, try to explain at what point we admit that EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE shows that Bush's tax plans have destroyed the US economy, and we are now being dragged deeper into the abyss with Bush blithely turning his sails into the storm.
