Holder has announced a tepid probe into some of the possible "excesses" committed by a few CIA interrogators, while letting the true architects and perpetrators of an elaborate, deliberate, inherent system of torture get off scot-free. Glenn Greenwald has many of the details here and here, among them the telling – and damning – fact that Obama and Holder have apparently decided that the "torture memos" prepared at the White House's order should be considered "settled law;" that is, only those agents whose tortures might have gone a bit beyond the already heinous tortures "allowed" by the White House memos are to be investigated for possible prosecution. As long as you stayed within the gruesome "guidelines" of the White House torture memos, then your atrocities are now to be considered "legal." This is yet another open reinforcement of the long-established covert practice of what we might call Nixon's Law: "If the president orders it, it cannot be illegal."

My guess is that he has good ratings and CNN is only concerned about its profits and not its journalistic integrity.

POPSBiden Noncommittal on Torture Prosecutions Fine Joe. Let's look forward. In fact, let's look forward to prosecuting people for torture. It would be a tremendous injustice if people who were responsible for this monstrous stain on our national record went unpunished. While I'm willing to give Team Obama the benefit of the doubt and wait until they take the wheel to start worrying about what they aren't doing, this isn't the most heartening thing I've heard so far. We may have to pile on congress to get them to take up the slack here. We shouldn't have to, but we may.

POPS12 Uses For Vinegar I couldn't do without it. I buy it by the gallon! Vinegar is really good for removing calcium build-up and as a hair conditioner too (especially if you have hard water) It shines up my kitchen sink like a charm and put a little in the water bucket when you wash windows for a streak free view. Mix a little with some yoghurt and you have an excellent aftersun lotion that works better than any store-bought variety IMO and it helps avoid peeling if you get sunburnt. Zap a cup of it and the microwave oven becomes a breeze to clean. Save LOTS of money and lower your use of toxic chemicals coz it's eco-friendly too!

POPSNewest Neckties Reduce the Spread of Germs Off the wall eh? But campaigning against hospital acquired infections presses my buttons. In this particular case I would have thought that as effective would be a ban on surgeons wearing neckties.
