Brass Knuckles and Party Unity
merrie

Bubba, feeling his pain, wants to talk about securing the Clintons' future, and particularly about all the good things he did when he was president. It's all about respect he counts as his due from the Democratic wing of the Clinton Party. It's not like Hillary didn't win everything fair and square. The Democrats here are more than a little concerned about their man's slide in the polls; Gallup on Monday said the race is tied at 45-all. The news may get worse. There's the story now afloat that an Obama half brother is living in grim poverty in Kenya, scratching out a bare living on a dollar a month while the senator lives in luxury on $5 million a year. Far worse, a summerlong controversy continues about when and where the senator was actually born, and whether the circumstances of his birth could cloud his eligibility to serve. The Obama campaign has been reluctant to produce a birth certificate. The Clintons are surely trying to help sort this out.

If you Suck at Sports, do you Suck at Life?
DarkYodeler
by DarkYodeler  8-7-2007
Orson Scott Card goes on to say this about organized sports for kids: "Too much like the real world, too little like play. When I wrote silly poems, that was play. That was just flat-out fun. My parents didn't get involved and nobody yelled at the ump." He wishes that "a kid who's lousy at sports but good at music or theatre or writing or videogames should get as much encouragement and honor as any athlete. But he won't." The only time I had fun with sports was when it was just for fun. If it got competitive I left because I could think of a lot better things to get upset about. I poured myself into drama, debate, reading, videogames. Now I'm 26, married for four years, a filmmaker, and a CEO of my own company.... and I still suck at sports.

Doing it the right way
Barb42
by Barb42  7-31-2007
Cal Thomas wrote an article today about doing it the right way. When we grew up, you tried to do things the right way, and if you got in trouble, you didn't go on the radio or television and talk about it. Nowadays, it seems that a person doing things the wrong way get more media attention than those that do right. Consider all the Hollywood celebrities who have been in the news lately. Also, remember how Hank Aaron made it into the baseball Hall of Fame - with character, integrity, and sportsmanship. Compare that with Barry Bonds who is about to surpass Aaron's record. What are we teaching the younger generations? Is it like Cal said. Frank Sinatra sang a song that said, "I'll do it my way". Is that how we are teaching our children, or do we want them to do it by the rules?

Poor Sportsmanship

Okay, I'm a Red Sox fan, so feel free to call me biased. Even so, it is a shame that a player this talented stoops to such lows. Remember the play at first base in 2004? What makes it even worse, is that he is one of the players that you could root for to knock down another low class player's record (Barry Bonds) if he weren't so dirty himself. Thank goodness for Albert Pujols.
