POPSPopularity has its toll :) I find the most interesting question as: "the incident sparked a debate about who owns the content a user creates on a social network?" What are codes of behaviour one should use? the borders become thinner between different (up till now at least) contexts, work, friends, spare time, game, business etc...

POPScandle4tibet The world's greatest LIGHT PROTEST will take place on August 7th 2008 - one day before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. At least 100 million people from all over the world will light a candle and say YES for freedom in Tibet! The Campaign started on facebook from the desktop of David Califa, 52, a retired private individual with an investment banking background, from Ramat Hasharon, Israel. Mr. Califa has been financing it with his own private funds. "Candle for Tibet" has quickly developed into a global movement which operates from a multilingual (25 languages, all translated by volunteers) web site with its own social network alongside.

POPS‘Shank’ website is aimed at the kids who carry knives Online article from the Sun about the application "superpoke" including "shank" in its list of actions. What a load of rubbish. There's not this sort of outcry about the fact players can go online in NUMEROUS games, create characters that represent themselves and then proceed to stab eachother, as well as a whole host of other actions. The fact that a tiny, crudely drawn picture of a knife has recieved this sort of response is ridiculous. Saying that the site promotes gang violence etc. is competely outrageous. Especially since there are discalimers on facebook when adding the application saying it was not produced by the makers of Facebook. What an over the top, ridiculous article. Also, you'l notice how its an 'exclusive'.. I wonder why... POPSWhat is your social network worth? This is a really interesting blog that is making me think about how public I want or need to be online. There is value in having an online presence but how many people do I want to know "all" of the different online social networks I am a part of or use?

POPSMake your own fonts! Charles Andermack, a font designer who works under the nom de lettres Chank Diesel, likes to brag that one of his custom fonts has been sitting at the top of the New York Times best-seller list. He created Truck King, the font used to typeset “Jon Scieszka’s Trucktown Smash! Crash!” an illustrated book about trucks. Mr. Andermack’s design firm, Chank Fonts (chank.com), builds custom fonts for advertisers, book designers or corporations looking to capture a special look or style. While Mr. Andermack’s fees can run into the tens of thousands of dollars for full families of fonts with all the diacritical marks and permutations, he can turn anyone’s handwriting into a font for $200. These custom fonts, also available from other sites like vletter.com, are popular not only with scrapbookers but also with professionals like real estate agents who want to add a personal touch to their letters.

POPSFriendfeed the Next Google?! Steve Rubel makes an interesting argument. For me the last paragraph in the story says it all...the founders know how to scale a product like this; they were all team members at Google and helped to launch such products as Google Maps, Adsense, GMail and Google Groups.

POPSAdult Social Network Zivity Will Fail ... Miserably Web 3.0 Startup Checklist: 1. New Take on a Social Network: CHECK 2. Built With Uber Cool Rails: CHECK 3. Investment from Rich Web 1.0 Moguls: CHECK 4. Crazy Ass Business Model: CHECK The idea for Zivity is good, but the execution is not in line with the market, and I know a little something about the pron market. I mean who doesn't? According to VB, they want the photos to be "fine erotica" submitted by hot people where paid subscribers vote and follow these local hotty attention whores. Hmmm sounds a lot like MySpace ... which is free ... and prob has 1000 times more local hotties to stalk than Zivity has. Where do I sign up? Oh that's right I can't (it's in private beta) Pron is free all over the mighty Interweb. There are free social networks, free attention whores, free fine erotica photos and free adult blogs to keep everyone more than satisfied.
