POPSIt's All About OIL! More from the post below: "I did not recall until you posted this just how close Turkmenistan is to both Afghanistan and Iran not to mention Kazakstan, and Uzbekistan. "Now we know then REAL reason we are putting more troops in Afghanistan, why they left Iraq and why we will probably Invade Iran. It's not about Weapons of Mass destruction,, Nuclear ambitions, Terrorism or Religion, Hell, it's not even about the collapse of Wall street,, the big three needing money, Social Security running out of money in 30 years, having to pay for 'Socialized medicine for Americans' with 1/20th of the budget for WAR or even the news of 'GM' opening up a bank in China. IT'S ABOUT OIL" ROBERT L. HANAFIN Major, U.S. Air Force-Retired GS-14, U.S. Civil Service-Retired Editorial Board Veterans Today News Network

POPS Securing the Web (These types of security checks operate in the background: they don't require you, for instance, to reenter your user name and password.) Many web applications also "sanitize" data posted by their subscribers: if a friend posts something to your social-network page, the application probably won't show you the post without inspecting it for malicious code. "We've looked at a lot of these web applications, and there's literally hundreds of places where these checks happen," says Nickolai Zeldovich, an assistant professor in MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab. Indeed, Zeldovich and his colleagues identified one popular web application that sanitized data in more than 1,400 places (but still had about 60 security holes). They also, however, identified a feature that web application security checks usually had in common: "Namely," Zeldovich says, "it's that the same data is being handled in all these hundreds of places."

POPSIs social media making us safer? I suppose this may seem obvious, but i hadn't really thought about it. I've heard talk about how people shouldn't post things like "on vacation" on twitter because criminals can use that info to go rob your house. But the idea that people have instantaneous ways to get information and reach out definitely suggests that we could become more efficient in crime avoidance. Thinking that a great idea for a new service would be some kind of social network 911 call. Press a certain button and automatically post an alert to the following people via twitter, facebook, sms, etc. Then, using GPS, the people could get your message and your location.

POPS "it's a disgrace ". says Mrs Witherall widow of Mr. Witherall. Mr Witherall's family said it makes a mockery of the justice system. However, A Prison Service spokesman said if a prisoner is found to have a mobile it is confiscated and they are placed in solitary confinement and have any privileges taken away. Sounds to me like they didn't find it.

POPSFAIR's Media Activist Kit Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting: “Media have tremendous power in setting cultural guidelines and in shaping political discourse. It is essential that news media, along with other institutions, are challenged to be fair and accurate.” The site gives advice on how to detect bias in the media, offers guidelines on writing to journalists who show signs of bias, lists world’s 10 biggest media companies, provides a list of Media Activism Groups, as well as a Media Contact List (top network/cable television, radio, newspapers and magazines) addresses, phone numbers and websites. The increasing number of people using social media sites are proof that we are no longer the ‘silent majority’. Now let’s carry this progress one step further. When we find bias in the media let’s make sure the people responsible for passing their lies on as news learn that we are not going to take it any more.

POPSHands up if you are sick of Google and Youtube's Censorship! Well If it gets off the ground successfully we now have an Alternative. "VueFliX was founded on the principle of truth without censorship. Other video Web sites will censor content they find offensive. We will not. To ensure our right to maintain the Web site in this way, we build, run and host the entire Web site. There is no middle man for possible censorship. If our ISP makes any attempts to censor the truth, we will simply switch our ISP. It should go without saying, but we will not hesitate to censor blatantly offensive content that does not benefit the truth (e.g.pornography or spam)."

POPSHas Japan's Dolphin Slaughter Been Prevented?
Today, the dolphin slaughter was set to begin in Taiji, but the tides there may have changed. Here's a dispatch from O'Barry who has just returned to Japan for the start of the killing season: When I got off the bus at the Cove this afternoon, I was accompanied by my son Lincoln O'Barry's film crew, a crew from Associated Press, Der Spiegel (the largest magazine in Germany), and the London Independent. No dolphins and no dolphin killers. We would not have had a story at all, except for the police who were there, waiting all day for us to appear. Nine policemen came to talk to us... And as I was talking with the police, as the international journalists stood around listening, suddenly a camera crew arrived from Japan! And then another! And then still another! You have to understand that this is SO IMPORTANT. These TV stations have REFUSED to cover the story in Taiji for years and years. NOW, for the first time, they have shown up, with cameras rolling. T
