POPSHow to Leverage Web 2.0 & Social Media Sites to Market Your Brand & Control Your Message Either the term Web 2.0 makes your blood boil, or you've taken to throwing it around like a free Google frisbee. If you're in the camp whose collective feeling is one of seething hatred, you may soon find yourself in the position of the people who didn't like mobile telephones being referred to as "cells." It appears that Web 2.0 - the concept and its controversial name - aren't going away.

POPSThe sad truth about social media (via @markwschaefer) I could not agree more with this and it infuriates me. I so badly want Amplify to break without relying on the influence of the so-called 'gang of 2,000' (see this clip about that http://bit.ly/BBKjK). i am hopeful and determined to create a social media experience where the thoughts, opinions, perspectives and ideas of ordinary, honest and bold people rule the day...not the 'you scratch my back - i'll scratch yours" crowd that seems to speak the loudest these days.

POPSWhat Can You Learn From a Fake Breast? From the way it looks there is silicone somewhere else, if not everywhere else. And should we all get some fake breasts just in case? The article sounds like a piece of fake breasts marketing, doesn't it?

POPSWhy Facebook Won't Listen! This is one of the best written articles I have ever read. If I am understanding it correctly, FB really doesn't care about "we the little people" because they are making billions...and in the long run, the owner of a prosperous company does what is best for the company. Period. I'm supposing there simply are not enough petitions I can sign saying how bad FB sucks right now cause I can't "find all my stuff" anymore - so I better just quit whining about it.

POPS5 Rules of Social Media Optimization (SMO) For years now, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for websites has been honed into a fine art with entire companies devoting considerable effort to defining best practices and touting the value of SEO for raising a site's performance on organic search listings. POPSThe Problem With The Global Warming Scam Is The Global Warming Hype
The New York Times has actually spilled the beans on the latest global warming scam. The PR firm behind the whole thing has figured out that the movement is losing steam and has suggested that the way to regain momentum is to come up with new, scary words. After the requisite amount of yammering, the Times article concludes like this: Robert J. Brulle of Drexel University, an expert on environmental communications, said ecoAmerica’s campaign was a mirror image of what industry and political conservatives were doing. “The form is the same; the message is just flipped,” he said. “You want to sell toothpaste, we’ll sell it. You want to sell global warming, we’ll sell that. It’s the use of advertising techniques to manipulate public opinion.” He said the approach was cynical and, worse, ineffective. “The right uses it, the left uses it, but it doesn’t engage people in a face-to-face manner,” he said, “and that’s the only way to achieve real, lasting social change."[

POPSThe End of Privacy? Are we unwittingly inviting big brother into our lives? The darkest fears we have of big brother is that ‘he’ can reach out to any one of us and control what we think and do. This ability to reach so many of us, and for such sinister reasons, is brushed off by the majority of people as fodder for Hollywood and the lunatic fringe. But read the article and take heed as to how we voluntarily give up bits of information on a daily basis. In hard economic times data collected on any of us becomes money to marketing firms. Are there any among us who naively believe that once trusted organizations won’t sell our personal information for a buck? And if the right reason presents itself to our government you can bet privacy laws will not stand in their way of obtaining any information they want about any of us. Homeland Security was founded to ‘protect’ us but won’t think twice about using data against private citizens when it comes to ‘national security’.
