why??? "my oldest is 20 years old - we want the best for our children" aparently "the best" does not involve things such as building trust.......if parents are worried about alienation from their children, they should work WITH them, not AGAINST them!

POPSThe pocket spy: will your smartphone rat you out? More: Sports Tracker also recorded what time I normally leave the house in the morning and when I return from work. "If I wanted more information, then I could just stalk you," says Neil Buck, a senior analyst at DiskLabs.… "Out of context, an individual piece of information such as an SMS is almost meaningless," says Jones. "But when you have a large volume of information - a person's diary for the year, his emails, the plans he's building - and you start to put them together, you can make some interesting discoveries."

POPSIs social media making us safer? I suppose this may seem obvious, but i hadn't really thought about it. I've heard talk about how people shouldn't post things like "on vacation" on twitter because criminals can use that info to go rob your house. But the idea that people have instantaneous ways to get information and reach out definitely suggests that we could become more efficient in crime avoidance. Thinking that a great idea for a new service would be some kind of social network 911 call. Press a certain button and automatically post an alert to the following people via twitter, facebook, sms, etc. Then, using GPS, the people could get your message and your location.

POPSAnother item on the "Why I no longer do Burning Man" list One of the things that {{Spiritualmonkey}} and I valued about Burning Man, back when we were still doing it, was the emphasis on radical self-reliance . If you needed it, you'd better bring it; if you didn't bring it, you wouldn't have it. There are a number of reasons we no longer go, but the shift away from radical self-reliance is part of it.

POPSThe end of free news? i'm not sure why this shocks me so much. but it does. i mean, i'm happy to pay for a newspaper........but the thought of paying for news content online just disagrees with me completely.

POPSSMS potential... Creative uses of this technology could reduce much of the current Card fraud (and the related expenses of using Credit and Debit cards).

POPSAAbuse of moderation privileges? Seems not [SEE COMMENTS] Antara disemvoweled my comment on her clip because she disagreed with my assertion of the facts. That's abusive and, I believe, against clipmarks policy/terms of use. I disemvowel comments that descend into personal attack, no matter whom. That's been my stated standard from when I started & I've stuck to it.. {{Antara}}, I call your actions dishonest and accuse you of being unwilling to engage in serious debate. Your excuse was I deem this one whiny, dumb but mostly just condescending nonsense ---so you win a vowel free post too! I stated the facts about HLG's arrest, his providing ID, and the racist history of the word "uppity" in America. I didn't make any personal attacks, and I defy you to point to specifically how my comment was "abusive". I call bullshit. I've written to Clipmarks to complain . 7/24/09: CLIPMARKS HAS RESPONDED. See comments.

POPSLOL: Iran’s “Boycott SMS!” “You don’t need 100 percent of consumers on board for a boycott to work effectively,” said the director of a major advertising firm in Tehran, who did not want to reveal his name. “Even a 20 percent drop in consumption is enough to hurt a company.” There are already signs that the boycott may be taking its toll on mobile operators. TCI shares on the Tehran Stock Exchange fell to an all-time low yesterday with a 6 percent drop over a two-week period, according to HAMNA, Iran’s mobile communication news agency. Iran Cell, the country’s largest private operator, has also sustained losses. A senior executive of this company, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Tehran Bureau that Iran Cell was losing “close to $250,000 a day” because of the drop in SMS volume. Text messaging had played a vital role in pre-election campaigning " largely conveying anti-Ahmadinejad jokes and pro-Mousavi slogans " and was used to disseminate information about grassroots effort

POPSThe Green Brief #16 @Iran_Translator(July 02) 4. Samareh Hashemi, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's campaign manager, told PressTV today that the SMS outage and cell phone service restrictions were put in place to "ensure security" 5. More international pressure is being mounted on Iran's Government. There will be an EU meeting next week where it is reported that member nations will consider pulling their ambassadors from Iran. 6. Al-Arabiya's website has stated that an Egyptian lawyer belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood, Mamdouh Ismail has filed a complaint in Egypt's Prosecutor General's Office. He has asked them to ban Ahmadinejad from entering Egypt next month to attend a diplomatic meeting. He has accused Ahmadinejad of winning the election erroneously and for insulting two of Prophet Mohammed's companions. 7. Seven people were arrested in Qazvin today in connection with the protests. The head of Participation Front in Hormozgan Province, Mr. Ramezanpour, was also arrested.

POPSMore Iran News Friday, June 26, 2009 The Spirit of Man ~ History, Liberty & Destiny *** Just talked to a relative who said it is really hard to access Persian news channels of VOA and BBC through satellite receivers. Most channels are jammed for most of the day and internet is basically shut off. Some SMS services are restored and city of Tehran looks like a combat zone with thousands of Basiji militias roaming the city arresting or harassing any one who could appear like a protester or a trouble maker. Surely, the US is not willing to help. I guess it makes the room for EU, Canada and Israelis to come to our aid.
