Anonymous Craigslist Letter to Dead Girlfriend -- Kleenex Required
Jacob173
by Jacob173  12-31-2009
Miranda joined in and then Catherine broke down. It was strange to stand in our bedroom surrounded by three crying girls. I made a joke about them crying for joy at the prospect of some free Manolo Balhniks which they didn't seem to find very funny. A few girls have put the moves on and as you know picking up women is not a forte of mine. It seems the grieving boyfriend seems to be a good angle. Who knew! I went on one date and spent it talking about you, the poor girl. You would have found it quite witty I think. No other dates to report, I am going against your orders to move on for now. I found one of those hair tie things that somehow managed to squeeze into every crevice in the apartment. It was under the bed. I sat on the floor holding it and cried. Until then I had held everything together but it just all came flooding out. Every morning when I wake up I forget for a fraction of a second that you are gone and I reach for you.

Where's your "COMFORT ZONE"?????
mountainpalm
by mountainpalm  12-28-2009
In both incidents, the failure of the bombings was not due to security measures at the originating European airports. The bombs were not picked up by metal detectors at Charles de Gaulle in Paris in 2001, or at Schiphol, Amsterdam in 2009, and the men carrying them evidently had no difficulty getting onto their flights.

Probably even fewer think it's fair that they have to take off their shoes, endure delays and madness while a known Islamic radical " turned in by his own father " can waltz onto a plane (and into the country). DHS had no role whatsoever in assuring that this bomb didn't go off. By her logic if the bomb had gone off, the system would have "worked" since it has done everything right. Napolitano has a habit of arguing that DHS is a first responder outfit. Its mission is to deal with "man-caused-disasters" after they occur. It appears she really believes it. If the White House wants to assure people that it takes the war on terror seriously (a term Robert Gibbs used this morning by the way), they could start by firing this patently unqualified hack. Director of Homeland Security Napolitano is on the case...."Gird Your Loins"

Meet Japan's First Western Geisha
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  12-20-2009    6
"Sayuki denies she's a flawless example of Japan's ancient flower and willow world. "Being a geisha takes a lifetime to perfect," she deflects, as she clacks along in lacquer sandals that she wears slightly too small to make her size-8 feet look more petite. Sayuki, who was born in Melbourne, Australia, became the first foreign woman in the notoriously closed profession's 400-year history to formally debut as a geisha two years ago, in late 2007. "I've only just begun," she says. "To many of my geisha sisters, I'm still a walking disaster." Read it all here: http://www.marieclaire.com/world-reports/news/japans-western-geisha Long article, but interesting.

Santa Claus vs. Krampus... TO THE DEATH! (By yours truly)

More: These stories involve strong language, violence, sexuality, drug use both recreational and spiritual, and fairy-tale subjects on the darker side of the "Bruno Bettelheim" scale , the ones where bad & lazy servants gets tarred and feathered, and the wicked are forced to dance themselves to death wearing red-hot iron shoes. Disney has been driven from the building. This page will serve as a central list for links to the the collected stories as I finish them and their links go live. Not sure how many it's going to take, but I know how it ends for sure. I also, from time to time, blog about the writing process . As with any journey, getting there is most of the fun. Hope you'll take this one with me. As with any journey, getting there is most of

Defending Marriage
debbyski
by debbyski  12-10-2009
"Marcotte's project is a political statement designed to call the bluff of the very group it's pretending to embrace: those seeking to protect marriage by limiting it to heterosexuals. The measure, of course, isn't meant to pass but rather to expose the hypocrisy of those who see gay marriage as a threat to their own unions. Never mind that the measure probably won't make the ballot even if it gets those 700,000 signatures and they're all valid; a lawsuit could easily keep it off the ballot. In the end, Marcotte wins either way. The Facebook page for the California Protection of Marriage Act has garnered more than 23,000 fans, and MSNBC's Keith Olbermann tipped his hat to Marcotte on a "Best Person in the World" segment last month."

Anne Mustoe: headmistress and round-the-world cyclist (1933-2009)
Lexica
by Lexica  12-3-2009
More: The glimpse of the lone cyclist which inspired her own ambition to cycle round the world came in January 1983. She said it took her four years from that defining moment to screw up her courage, resign her job and cycle into the sunrise, but she calculated that she had no ties, her stepsons were married off, and she could just afford it if she lived modestly until her pension came through.… All her incident-packed journeys were recounted in a warm, accessible, no-nonsense prose in which a wry, understated humour was coupled with indefatigable fortitude, enthusiasm and optimism, making light of robberies, injuries, freak floods, storms, desert heat waves, blizzards in the Rockies and ferocious winds in Jutland and Patagonia — and even of being knocked off her bike by a short-sighted nonagenarian in a Fiat Panda. Mustoe cycled off on her last expedition in May this year, but became ill in Syria. She died in Aleppo (Haleb). RIP, Ms. Mustoe.

Holger Bech Nielsen on the LHC and the Higgs Particle
thisnamecantbetaken

Holger Bech Nielsen talks about the theory he co-authored, that God, or the future, could theoretiically somehow sabotage the LHC. He has Asberger's syndrome, therefore his somewhat odd mannerisms, but don't underestimate his intelligence! He has a brilliant mind. I've heard, that he sometimes shows up for work wearing two different shoes and when people point that out to him, he says: "And wouldn't you know, I have another pair just like it at home!" Funny. :p

Call Evil by it's rightful name
pkronfield
by pkronfield  11-15-2009    10
It's why we forbid soldiers on a military base from carrying weapons. It's why the Las Vegas police run background checks on casino workers, but then can't sort the work cards by countries of origin like, say, countries on the terrorist watch list. Maj. Hasan is simply the latest sad case in point. Maj. Hasan spoke openly (and ignorantly) about how his Muslim faith demanded the severed heads of infidels. He argued against Muslim soldiers killing other Muslims in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He kept counsel with radical imam Anwar al-Awlaki, who had previous contact with two of the 9/11 hijackers. Investigators speaking on the condition of anonymity told reporters they wanted to investigate Maj. Hasan thoroughly but feared they would be "crucified" if they launched a probe into a Muslim officer communicating with his imam.

Glenn Beck Compares Derailing Health Care To Preparing For 9/11

HERE IS A TRANSCRIPT OF BECK: Ten years ago, I could have shouted every single day about Osama bin Laden and his wacky crazy threats to kill Americans in New York and nobody would have been willing to stand in line two hours while some security officer made grandma take her shoes off. No one would have done it. But don't you see. While the government is still not willing to do these things, today America is different. America has changed. Washington, we're not going to let you get away with it anymore. Look, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Conservatives are awake. 9/12ers are willing to do the hard things. We know what this means! We're taking time out of our busy lives, taking time away from their families, they're attending town hall meetings. Do you think they want to do that? They are calling their representatives. How many times do we have to be yelled at by your people in Washington? They are reading 2,000-page healthcare bills on the weekend. The 9
