POPS Putin Urges US To Share Missile Defense Data
"We have agreed to continue to discuss the topic of missile defense with Russia in a separate venue," he said. Putin's comments showed that the former Russian president is continuing to shape Russian foreign policy, which under the constitution should be set by his successor, Dmitry Medvedev. He said that the arms control talks were proceeding in a positive way and added that Medvedev and President Barack Obama will eventually decide whether to strike an arms deal. But Putin warned that a missile defense system would give the U.S. an edge and could erode the deterrent value of Russia's nuclear forces. "The problem is that our American partners are developing missile defenses, and we are not," Putin said. "But the issues of missile defense and offensive weapons are closely interconnected. ... There could be a danger that having created an umbrella against offensive strike systems, our partners may come to feel completely safe. After the balance is broken .....

POPSClearest sign yet of dark matter detected "Had the experiment seen five events above the expected background, the claim for having detected dark matter would have been a lot stronger. Nonetheless, the team cannot dismiss the possibility that the two events are because of dark matter." "Space-based telescopes like PAMELA have seen particles that could be coming from the annihilation of dark matter in our galaxy. Similar sightings have been made by a balloon-based experiment called ATIC. Soon, the Large Hadron Collider will be starting to smash protons together in the hopes of creating dark matter."

POPSA missile defense system might be nice now... I wish I could stop reading about this kinda' stuff. Every day it's something worse. At every turn Obama undermines the security of us and our allies....and those in Congress seem so fixated on passing a sinking Health Care Bill to realize that it's NOT our first priority. Those who do not see the horrific danger that a nuclear Iran poses have their heads in the sand.

POPSMedusa From ancient times, the Medusa was immortalized in numerous works of art, including: * Medusa on the breastplate of Alexander the Great, as depicted in the Alexander Mosaic from Pompeii's House of the Faun (c. 200 BC) * The "Rondanini Medusa", a Roman copy of the Gorgoneion on the aegis of Athena * Medusa (oil on canvas) by Leonardo da Vinci * Perseus with the Head of Medusa (bronze sculpture) by Benvenuto Cellini (1554) * Medusa (oil on canvas) by Caravaggio (1597). * Tête de Méduse, by Peter Paul Rubens (1618) * Perseus Turning Phineus and his Followers to Stone (oil on canvas) by Luca Giordano (early 1680s). * Perseus with the Head of Medusa (marble sculpture) by Antonio Canova (1801) * Medusa (oil on canvas) by Arnold Böcklin (c. 1878) * Perseus (bronze sculpture) by Salvador Dalí

POPSBCBS Sabotage Health Care Reform at State Level Blue Cross Blue Shield speaks with forked tongue. Look for your state in list below: " Part of the reason the BCBS Association has claimed that it opposes the reform bill in its current form is because of what it perceives as a weak individual mandate. However, the BCBS Association-supported ALEC campaign depicts the very notion of an individual mandate as "anti-freedom." So either way the Senate acts, BCBS will be able to trash the bill and try to kill reform. According to ALEC, constitutional amendments have been filed or pre-filed in Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Legislation is being discussed in 12 other states: Alabama, Alaska, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Montana, Tennessee, and Utah. A bill passed the Arizona legislature in June, and will go to a public referendum in 2010."

POPSThe U.S. Needs to Open Up to the World It's better for everybody to have a stake in society than to have a resentful underclass bent on wrecking things. To many Americans, this sounds like socialism, big government, the nanny state. But so what? The result is: Europe has less gun crime and homicide, less poverty and arguably a higher quality of life than the U.S., which makes a lot of us wonder why America doesn't want some of what we've got. America as a gated community won't work, because not even the world's sole superpower can build walls high enough to shield itself from the intertwined realities of the 21st century. There's a better form of security: reconnect with the rest of the world, don't shut it out; stop making enemies and start making friends. Perhaps it's asking a lot to expect America to act differently from all the other empires in history, but wasn't that the original idea?

POPSHarlem Gospel Choir Will Not Be Exploited On Beck's Xmas Show The Harlem Boys Choir maintains that they canceled for financial reasons. James Rucker, of Colorofchange.org said that he sent information on Beck that influenced HBC's decision and that the Choir had no idea that Beck is considered racist. No matter the reason, Beck's attempt to exploit a distinguished African-American group to shield his racism has been thwarted. What an Xmas scam. Perhaps the Mormon Choir will fill-in? They're much more appropriate for his scene. No mater, Leni Riefenstahl would still be proud of the effort.

POPSWhen Your Insurer Says You're No Longer Covered
"We do not rescind a policyholder's coverage because someone on the policy gets sick," said a spokeswoman for Anthem Blue Cross, a subsidiary of WellPoint. "We have put in place a thorough process with multiple steps to ensure that we are as fair and as accurate as we can be in making these difficult decisions." In a pending case, Blue Shield searched in vain for an inconsistency in the health records of the wife of a dairy farmer after she filed a claim for emergency gallbladder surgery, according to attorneys for the family. Turning to her husband's questionnaire, the company discovered he had not mentioned his high cholesterol and dropped them both. Yvette Thomassian of Glendale, Calif., lost her Blue Cross policy because she did not declare a deviated septum. She questioned why a common misalignment of the nostrils would disqualify anyone. They cancelled her healthcare over a crooked nose bone! Shocking this is tolerated, in a supposedly civilized nation.

POPSFood of the week: Cauliflower Cauliflower traces its ancestry to the wild cabbage, a plant thought to have originated in ancient Asia Minor, which resembled kale or collards more than the vegetable that we now know it to be. The cauliflower went through many transformations and reappeared in the Mediterranean region, where it has been an important vegetable in Turkey and Italy since at least 600 B.C. It gained popularity in France in the mid-16th century and was subsequently cultivated in Northern Europe and the British Isles. The United States, France, Italy, India and China are countries that produce significant amounts of cauliflower.

POPSSaudis Consider Russian Air Defense System This is what I am talking about. Keep Iran away from this defense system, because Israel will attack Iran before it is in place. Before we are ready. It still may happen, with U.S. help and/ or approval...Saudis are strict and treat women like garbage, but this little act will keep peace a day or two longer....

POPSObamacare 'Wrap-Up' Guts Conservatives Amendments
The wrap-up amendment expands powers granted to a brand new Medicare Commission endowing these bureaucrats with the ability to raise premiums on Medicare prescription drug coverage at will. Democrats had worked out a deal with hospitals in secret negotiations over the summer to exempt them from the extensive plans for cuts in Medicare rates. This “carve out” would exempt hospitals from these reductions but the CBO estimated the provision would add $11 billion to the overall cost of the bill. No problem for Dems, just rack up another $11 billion in stealth cuts to Medicare for an offset. Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) offered an amendment that was agreed to in the committee markup without objection to shield veterans from increases in the cost of their medical care and reductions in access to treatment. In the wrap-up amendment, Democrats voted to gut the veteran protections, without the customary consultation to the amendment’s author, reducing the amendment to mere . . .

POPSMore American Health Insurance Insanity And people are still trying to get people to believe that commercial health insurance is better than government healthcare? Utter insanity. In the victim's native Philippines, she wouldn't have to deal with insanity like this. America, just get over your irrational phobia of socialized healthcare, and get universal healthcare already. The rest of the industrialized world has already realized that a healthcare system based on commercial healthcare is criminal unfair, and utterly flawed in its basic concept. The rest of the industrialized world having healthcare systems that outrank America's dismal 37th place rating is another clue that only lunatics don't want socialized medicine.

POPSInvisibility Cloaks May Shield Buildings From Earthquakes "The conceptual cloak will be made up of several large, concentric plastic rings affixed to the Earth’s surface. In order for the destructive surface waves to pass smoothly into the plastic, the stiffness and elasticity of the rings must be very closely controlled. The waves that travel through the cloak are compressed into minuscule fluctuations in pressure and density and are able to travel along the fastest path available. The path can be molded into an arc that directs surface waves away from objects inside the cloak by tweaking the characteristics of the plastic. As soon as the waves exit the cloak, they return to their original, larger size." ....More at the site: http://www.inhabitat.com/2009/06/30/invisibility-cloaks-may-shield-buildings-from-earthquakes/

POPSThe Neoconservative Resurgency With Obama--Neoconservativism 2.0 Well documented article worth reading entirely. Then there is this article too : That must be the meaning of change. The goal was not to restore the rule of law and constitutional legitimacy, but to transcend the Bush administration's cowboy unilateralism and tactfully reassert a neo-conservative normalcy in America's foreign policy. And this more recent article: ‘No change from Bush to Obama', say Neocons and Liberals 16 Sep 2009 American foreign policy under Barack Obama has not changed course after the Bush years, according to a group of prominent commentators from both sides of the political divide. (except for the breaking missile shield policy)...from a UK media source. Yet the U.S. Media are absolutely silent.

POPSWho Are The Real Pirates In Africa's Waters? Like the pirates of the ``golden age’’, today's Somali pirates see themselves as fighting for justice. As Sugale Ali told the October 1, 2008, NYT: ``We don’t consider ourselves sea bandits. We consider sea bandits those who illegally fish in our seas and dump waste in our seas and carry weapons in our seas. We are simply patrolling our seas. Think of us like a coast guard.’’ ``The truth is, if you ask any Somali, if getting rid of the pirates only means the continuous rape of our coast by unmonitored Western vessels, and the production of a new cancerous generation, we would all fly our pirate flags high. It is time that the world gave the Somali people some assurance that these Western illegal activities will end, if our pirates are to their operations. We do not want the EU and NATO serving as a shield for these nuclear waste-dumping hoodlums.’’
