POPSVEE Day in Alameda, California, we practiced duck-and-cover as well as earthquake drills. Nothing quaint or or historic about it then. Here’s Reagan speechwriter Anthony R. Dolan at the Wall Street Journal on the power of “Four Little Words” … you remember them: “Tear down that wall” … and the earth-shaking ideas they represented as well as the action that backed them. The popular myth is that the wall kind of toppled over by itself, with a little push from people power. That of course ignores not only the prior 44 years of Cold War … interspersed with several hot ones that cost us tens of thousands of American lives … it also ignores the massive military buildup of the 1980s, the encouragement of liberation movements behind the Iron Curtain, the tough engagement with old-school Soviet leaders and, not least, the cordial engagement with a Soviet leader who realized it was time to throw in the towel. An atmosphere was finally created in which people felt like they could

POPSThird-party runs are for real in N.J., N.Y. races But the impact of those candidacies on the high-profile contests points to an anti-incumbent, anti-establishment sentiment that could be a prevailing theme in the 2010 congressional elections and beyond. "What it says is the public is looking for less self-interested parties and candidates who can reflect the needs of a very frustrated public," said Douglas Astolfi, a history professor at Florida's St. Leo University. "We have two wars and we're in a recession that neither party seems to address in any positive way. There's a deep sense that government has abandoned the common man. People are frustrated and angry."

POPSCheering Over Obama's Failure and the Censorious Head-Shaking Over The Cheering Nearly one year ago, on a clear November night, people from every corner of the world gathered in the city of Chicago or in front of their televisions to watch the results of the U.S. Presidential election. Their interest wasn't about me as an individual. Can't you just see the eyes rolling? Somehow he's President of the whole world. And he's bigger than himself as an individual. Rather, it was rooted in the belief that America's experiment in democracy still speaks to a set of universal aspirations and ideals.... Actually, it's kind of cool to hear him reciting the ideology of "American exceptionalism" he's usually accused of not believing in. But isn't this exactly the wrong place to do it? Is he about Chicago or America or the whole world or does he somehow think it all becomes one... in him?

POPSThe last untouchable in Europe More: On occasions, the bigotry was brutally enforced: in the early 18th century a prosperous Cagot in the Landes was caught using the font reserved for non-Cagots – his hand was chopped off and nailed to the church door. Another Cagot who dared to farm his fields (strictly verboten) had his feet pierced with hot iron spikes.… Even in death, the discrimination persisted – the Cagots were buried in their own humble cemeteries; there is still one in Bentayou-Sérée, a tiny village north of Pau.… I ask Marie-Pierre if she will let me use a picture of Sylvia – and the rest of her children. She shakes her head. "I'm sorry but no. It is OK for me to admit where I come from. But if people knew about my children's background, it might be difficult for them." She gazes out of the window, at the distant green Pyrenees. "In some places, the hatred lingers. Even now. The Cagots may be silent but I can still hear it."

POPSYet Another Obama Conspiracy Lie: The American Police Force in Montana  THE SHAKING HAS BEGUN! Dear Intercessors, Things are moving so quickly and we are out of time! The spirit of Pharaoh has entered our land! We have found out that our little town of Hardin is the 'test town' for President Obama’s new law to privatize the police force of local communities. Last night, the city council voted to disband our sheriff’s department and to bring in a private security company to police the town. lol: lol: lol: lol:

POPSThree Historical Lessons to Help the President Cope
continued testing its missiles designed to deliver nuclear war heads to Tel Aviv. And the health care takeover is losing momentum. These issues require hard work for a hardened politician. Most that want to be President relish these days as the chance to make a real difference for the country. Obama chooses a flight to Copenhagen. Defense Secretary Gates furthered the concern over Afghanistan on the Sunday talk shows by pointing out that leaving that basket-case of a country would allow the Taliban and Al Qaida to regroup, rearm and re-attack the American homeland. Should that occur, of course the US military would be sent back into Afghanistan to hunt bad guys " at least until the next leftist liberal was elected President. The Prez though, is reluctant to get into a war that can’t be quickly won. The President’s preferred choice may be to fight the War on Terror on the streets of American cities rather than Afghanistan. Reasoning that we wouldn’t have to pay

POPSCoworkers Find They're Long Lost Brothers more: Randy, the older brother, was the one who first had a hunch they may have been related. "People are saying we look like brothers, and we go on deliveries together for the last month and a half and we keep getting it" Randy said. He had recently dug up some information about his adoption and discovered that he had a brother who was born on June 10, 1974 -- Gary's birthday. For two weeks the two kept the news to themselves, but last week they shared their story withco-workers. Owner Lisa Dow says she cried when one of the brothers told her, "I would have never found him if you didn't hire me to work here." Gary and Randy are still in disbelief. "I've been riding around with this guy for a month and a half and he's my full blooded brother," Randy said shaking his head.

POPSBelieve it Lying about a blowjob is an impeachable offense -- lying about a war is no big deal, really. Investigating a shady land deal involving the First Lady is a matter of National Identity -- investigating the use of torture at the direction of the Executive Branch is a partisan witch hunt. Executing Japanese officers for waterboarding prisoners during WWII shows that we have the moral high-ground on human rights -- waterboarding prisoners of our shows that we have the moral high-ground on human rights. Sitting two rows in front of Jane Fonda in a 1970 anti-war rally is an OUTRAGE! Shaking Saddam's hand in 1983...meh, not so much. Anyone who questions the president during a time of war is giving aide and comfort to the enemy and should be deported...unless the president in question has a (D) next to their name in which case you should undermine them at every turn even if you have to routinely make shit up to do it. Socialism, Marxism, Communism and Fascism are all interchangea

POPSH1N1 Influenza Update Treatment If you get sick: * Talk to your doctor. You may need to get tested to be sure you have H1N1 flu. * Stay home from school or work until you are feeling better and your fever has been gone for at least 24 hours. Try to avoid being around other people. This will reduce the risk of spreading the flu to others. * If you have to go outside, wear a mask over your nose and mouth if you can. * Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. * If you don't have a tissue, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. Use the bend in your arm, rather than using your hands. * Wash your hands every time you cough or sneeze. To treat H1N1 flu, your doctor may prescribe an antiviral medicine such as oseltamivir (Tamiflu) or zanamivir (Relenza). These medicines can help you feel better faster and may prevent other health problems caused by the flu.

POPSTime For Bickering Is Over Obama said the legislation he seeks would guarantee insurance to consumers, regardless of pre-existing medical conditions, as well as other protections. "As soon as I sign this bill, it will be against the law for insurance companies to drop your coverage when you get sick or water it down when you need it most," he added. The president assured those with insurance that "nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have." Obama also said the legislation he seeks would help those who lack insurance to afford it. "These are not primarily people on welfare," he said in a line that appeared aimed at easing concerns among working-class voters. "These are middle-class Americans."

POPSBrian Jones Murdered? cont: Soon after, Lawson saw Thorogood shaking badly as he reentered the house, and then she found Jones in the pool. Thorogood was also the central suspect in a pair of 1994 books about Jones’ death. In Who Killed Christopher Robin?, Terry Rawlings writes that Thorogood took responsibility for killing Jones on his death bed in 1993, telling Rolling Stones’ driver Tom Keylock, “It was me that did Brian. I just finally snapped.” Keylock died last month. Why the police will reexamine the case now following Lawson’s statements as opposed to Thorogood’s statements from his death bed remain unclear. POPSSenator Harry Reid Bullying the Review-Journal Newspaper "If he thinks he can push the state's largest newspaper around by exacting some kind of economic punishment in retaliation for not seeing eye to eye with him on matters of politics, I can only imagine how he pressures businesses and individuals who don't have the wherewithal of the Review-Journal."

POPSParty of Hope, Change and Beatdowns • Obama discussing ACORN support: "I don't want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I'm angry!" • Obama to his paid ACORN mercenaries (on the taxpayer dime, no less): "Hit Back Twice As Hard" Consider: this is happening now, a little more than a year before the midterm elections and three years from the Presidential election. And the precedent for tolerating voter intimidation at the polls has been set. Folks, I'll be frank. I don't have a good feeling about this.
