POPSHolocaust in Yugoslavia Whether we are studying the Armenian genocide by the Ottoman Turks, the genocides against Serbs, Jews and Roma during World War II, the extermination of Native American peoples by the US government, or any other crime of genocide against an entire people, the root cause can be traced to a deliberate policy of imperialist rule. The case of Yugoslavia is instructive because it shows how the imperialist countries, in this instance Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, used smaller client states or nations, such as the Croats, the Albanians, the Bosnian Muslims, the Bulgarians, and the Hungarians to commit genocide, even when, as with the case of Bulgarians, they would not do this within their own national borders. In most instances, civil war or genocide serve the interests of imperialist powers whose aim is to rule through a condominium of power with client states. This lesson is not lost on anyone concerned with the situation in Iraq.

Until then, organizational meetings would dominate proceedings, he said. Mr. Dzhokhadze said Georgia expects 15 countries to take part in the exercises after official notification from Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Moldova and Serbia that they wouldn't take part. Armenia, which is dependent on Russia for its economic survival, said Tuesday that its military wasn't taking part. Mr. Dzhokhadze said Georgia had received no official confirmation of that. Georgia put down a mutiny of several hundred army officers of a tank battalion near Tbilisi on Tuesday.

It suffered during the collapse of the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s and a loss of markets and mismanagement during a decade of wars and sanctions led to massive job cuts, leaving the company with just 100 workers. Some employees have not been paid for years, only collecting social benefits, like free medical care. About two dozen workers went on a 19-day hunger strike last year. They want the company's debt to be swapped for state-held equity and a welfare program for those nearing retirement.

They are being moved from one place to another and after a while sold abroad. following a movie i saw, thought to look into figures and was amazed. this is one of the lowest levels that human is reaching. and i say human because putting it away, shoving it aside, excusing oneself from that sight will not do. it is something in within human capabalities, and we should acknowledge that, also the strive to undo it.

That is certainly what the young Serbian men who burned flags and threw bottles in defense of Karadzic believe. The logic essentially goes like this: “He’s a son-of-a-bitch, but he’s our son-of-a-bitch. Misdirected rage applauds “our” murderers, believes they are necessary. It not only thinks the clash of civilizations is real, it needs the clash of civilizations to justify support of its murderers.
