POPSYesterday Was A Lie View Movies Online A groundbreaking new noir film, YESTERDAY WAS A LIE is a "fresh and stylish tale of intrigue and metaphysical darkness" (Ain't It Cool News). Award-winning writer/director saint Kerwin "offers up a magnetic force with endless repeat value" (Film Threat) that teases the boundaries of reality. Kipleigh Brown "exudes Bacall" (Slice of SciFi) as Hoyle, a girl with a sharp mind and a weakness for bourbon who finds herself on the trail of a reclusive intellectual (John Newton). But her work takes a series of sudden twists as events around her grow increasingly fragmented... disconnected... surreal. --© Official Site

POPSA Giant Virus Discovery Trumps SciFi Some viruses become so large that other viruses can infect them, tiny super-specialized parasites piggy-backing their genetic code on their huge cousins. Others simply fail, their patchwork genomes not up to the challenges of the environment. The Marseillevirus has stolen ten percent of its chromosomes from bacteria it once infected, and anther five percent from the amoebic host of the party. It's even infiltrated other giant viruses, taking parts of the mimivirus for its own purposes. Don't worry about any mass-media scare stories: this thing is no threat to us and there isn't a shred of evidence to suggest otherwise. Not that the latter necessarily affects the former.

POPSA Terminator army to save humanity from Terminator
There is a reasonable doubt about the safety of developing an artificial intelligence (AI) clever than human. On one hand whatever is the goal of it every wish may be corrupted and the consequences of this may be really bad, even if it is doing what it was originally designed to do in an optimal way. On the other hand, if the AI is clever than human it is already depicted as a close to invincible adversary, no matter what humanity thinks to defeat it, it has a better plan to defeat humanity. There are many examples of AI systems that get out of control and become enemies of their creators in SciFi, I can think about SkyNet, HAL, and VIKI now. This is nothing new, Golems had only two possible endings, destruction or insubordination if they "lived" enough. So what's the solution? The solution to prevent one of these beings from obliterating the human race is the creation of a whole army of them. Not very intuitive, potentially hilarious, but that could actually work. As explained

POPSBecoming too reliant and emotionally attached to your personal computer RAM (Random Access Memory) is an animation about becoming too reliant and emotionally attached to your personal computer. It is an exaggeration of my research on recent trends of dependency and attachment found in children for their PCs, especially in the US and UK. The animation centres on the interaction between two boys, Mark and Tylr, while the technical focus of the piece is on animation, particularly facial animation. The style of the piece is based on Japanese anime, which has already been used for many technological and sci-fi series, and is born from a country famous for its technophilia and tendency to use technology for fun and companionship. The voice actors I used were children I overheard at a comic book store, and while most of the dialogue is scripted, I also made use of excess recordings that were just too lol to not use. Enjoy! POPSClear Water Series Blog Book Review by Susan Haley The success of the fantasy adventures proves me rather ‘out of it’. One need only look at the remarkable success of Star Wars and Harry Potter, or the Star Trek generation preceding that to realize the magnitude of that audience.

POPSParallels to Obamamania in ABC's "V" Sci-Fi Mini-Series An excerpt from Garvin's Sunday, November 1 Miami Herald review (“'V': The saucer-shaped bandwagon”), which the Chicago Tribune headlined “'V' aims at Obamamania.” Imagine this. At a time of political turmoil, a charismatic, telegenic new leader arrives virtually out of nowhere. He offers a message of hope and reconciliation based on compromise and promises to marshal technology for a better future that will include universal health care. The news media swoons in admiration -- one simpering anchorman even shouts at a reporter who asks a tough question: “Why don't you show some respect?!!” The public is likewise smitten, except for a few nut cases who circulate batty rumors on the Internet about the leader's origins and intentions. The leader, undismayed, offers assurances that are soothing, if also just a tiny bit condescending: “Embracing change is never easy.”

POPSJapan Plans Solar Station in Space The next step, expected around 2020, would be to launch and test a large flexible photovoltaic structure with 10 megawatt power capacity, to be followed by a 250 megawatt prototype. JAXA says the transmission technology would be safe but concedes it would have to convince the public, which may harbour images of laser beams shooting down from the sky, roasting birds or slicing up aircraft in mid-air.

POPSThe future of interface design It's amazing to think what we can control and interact with, alot of these ideas were in Hollywood sci-fi only 10 years ago, the rate of development is staggering. Great article showing the technology and how we can use it in the real world.
