POPSWelcome to the Clipiversity We were talking recently about how much we learn each day from reading clips on the site. I won't speak for anyone else, but i definitely have learned more from the clips that you all have posted than i did in high school, college and law school combined. Sad, but true. So, Skiff set out to create a fun podcast that highlights some of the interesting clips we find each day. It also gives us an opportunity to weigh in on them. Now you can sit back and listen to highlights from clipmarks on the clipiversity podcast...and don't worry, there will be no pop quizzes...get it, pop ;)

POPSThe Teen Brain Human and animal studies, Jensen and Urion note, have shown that the brain grows and changes continually in young people—and that it is only about 80 percent developed in adolescents. The largest part, the cortex, is divided into lobes that mature from back to front. The last section to connect is the frontal lobe, responsible for cognitive processes such as reasoning, planning, and judgment. Normally this mental merger is not completed until somewhere between ages 25 and 30—much later than these two neurologists were taught in medical school. There are also gender differences in brain development. As Urion and Jensen explain, the part of our brain that processes information expands during childhood and then begins to thin, peaking in girls at roughly 12 to 14 years old and in boys about two years later. This suggests that girls and boys may be ready to absorb challenging material at different stages, and that schools may be missing opportunities to reach them.

"Children can't object to something they don't know about, and children can more easily and readily report assaults if they already are aware of their own sexuality." POPSSex Ed Teacher Answers Student Questions on Masturbation, Parents Seek Criminal Charges This type of fear based mentality on the side of parents and school administrators is a large part of the reason teens struggle with sexual issues. Parents don't want to talk about it...prosecute teachers who try to answer the students questions...and yet we ask "Oh my! What has happened to our youth? Where have we gone wrong?" These parents need to be sued for utter stupidity. Don't attack a Sex-Ed teacher for trying to answer legitimate questions! If they want to control the minds of their children...HOME SCHOOL them in a church basement somewhere and mind the shackles please, they tend to come loose with time and age.

POPSI Never Heard of Anybody Getting a Dual Ph.D. dulios recently mentioned to me that conservatives were talking about me on their threads, accusing me of lying about my education and experience. I'd say first, Google me. But, addressing it only once, this clip should be proof enough.
