National Writing Day
carrerinyes
by carrerinyes  10-24-2009    9
Now there's the computer and the internet. In the digital age, anyone with a laptop, a wi-fi card, and a place to sit at Starbucks can put material into cyberspace. The digital revolution means everyone's an author, every day is National Writing Day. And this sudden democratizing of the writing process generates its own set of complaints: * it's wrong to give so many people access to authorship -- after all, most people won't be very good at, and some people are going to write things that we don't agree with * computers make writing too easy -- something so important should only come with effort -- no pain, no gain -- maybe we should increase the entrance fees? * we need to control, license, censor what's on the 'net: after all, the web is full of lies, misinformation, nonsense, pornography, fraud, Nigerian money scams, and hate, not to mention all those pictures of little cats But despite the complaints, writers everywhere are grabbing their keyboards...

How to get a Google Wave Invite
merrie
by merrie  11-2-2009    1
Invites are being given out in small batches- if someone says they have 1,000 invites, beware! Tips & Warnings * If you get an invitation and go to sign up, and are presented with anything that tries to sell you something, back away as it's probably a scam. * Be careful! As with any big thing, spammers and scammers are trying to take advantage. If in your quest for Google Wave you're asked to scan for viruses or provide financial information, turn around- you're being scammed. 6 Search eBay for an invitation. A few Google Wave invite owners are selling on the site. You can bid, but beware eBay is deleting some of these listings because selling a Google Wave invite is like selling someone else's intellectual property.

U.S. Mercenaries Exempt from all laws

#1. These mercenaries employed by the U.S. are not subject to the laws of the host country; in this case, Iraq. #2. They are not subject to military laws #3. Now we also see, in this case, they put 'fine print,' in their contracts with employees that they falsely use to avoid accountability to U.S. laws. Over and over again the excuses and the manipulations, the seeking of exemptions and/or special privilages never ends. It's a full time job to keep up with such people and group and those that are suppose to do so often fail or are lax in their jobs (like we learned in the financial scams that keep happening). This clip talks about fixing this "loophole," next year. That's a joke. These people should be arrested and put on trail now. You can pretend to excuse murder, rape, stealing, etc. because you got the victim to sign a contract! Yet many people will do what they want and try to get away with anything. U.S. Health Insurance Price Fixing!

Like the bank scams on Wall St. and elsewhere much of it happen when lawmakers, like George Bush especially, removed rules and regulations that allowed banks to sell products that had no real value or sell default insurance when they didn't have the cash to pay off. Like a lot of politics it's not Left vs. Right -- it's the SuperRich exploiting the taxpayers and middle classes and getting special advantages for themselves. Now this has been revealed in the U.S. Health Care Insurance business. It's been revealed --- after months and months of discussion (and previous years of efforts) that this business has an exemption from laws about price fixing and other business collusions.! Dang! It took us this long to find out! It's been like this for all our lifetime! (most of us). They make the biggest bucks --- they make the greatest profit of any USA business -- and they have and keep this exemption to fair play rules that would require fair play competition! We need to restore f

Orange Juice..far from pure
kareval
by kareval  10-16-2009
One of the great scams of the industrial food cartel is the so-called "fresh" orange juice sold in supermarkets. This one particularly galls me because for years when I was dirt poor and had very few food choices, I thought I was doing a healthy thing by buying "fresh" orange juice from Tropicana. Alissa Hamiliton has written a new book on the subject called "Squeezed: What You Don't Know About Orange Juice." Some reality checks: 1. There is more vitamin c in a single orange than in a full glass of industrial orange juice 2. Truly fresh orange juice only last a few days. It if last for weeks (or months), it's an industrial product. 3. Until the Florida orange growers launched a campaign in the early 20th century to deal with their surplus crop, the only people who drank orange juice were Floridians who had a tree in their backyard. There is nothing particularly healthy or natural about drinking orange juice - and the industrial product is a total waste of money.

ACORN Awarded $1M Grant Over Firefighters

NEW ORLEANS -- Louisiana's attorney general said Tuesday he has stepped up an investigation into embezzlement at ACORN nearly a decade ago, but the prosecutor and community activist group clashed over how much money was taken. Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell claimed the figure was $5 million, but ACORN said the sum hadn't changed from slightly less than $1 million. ACORN said its chief executive officer estimated it could cost up to $5 million to "get everything together" in the aftermath of the embezzlement, but the group's leaders claim only $948,607 was stolen.

ABC's Charles Gibson --- "Unaware" of Five Day-Old ACORN Controversy, Senate Vote to De-Fund ACORN Gibson, as John Stephenson and P.J. Gladnick of NewsBusters noted in September of last year, as a result of his interview with GOP vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, twisted her words, with the help of selective editing, to portray her as some kind of out of touch, excessively religious, militaristic rube. With the above interview, no editing is required. Who’s out of touch now, Charlie? Cross-posted at NewsBusters.org. _______________________________________ UPDATE: Rush and some NB commenters are speculating that Gibson may have said “I haven’t heard about it” because the only other alternative would be to say a completely damning “We didn’t think it was important.” Gibson’s laugh at the beginning of his response does seem to be a bit nervous.

U.S. Accepts Iran's Offer of Talks

Iran's proposal included efforts to curb nuclear weapons, so this should be interesting. Right now Western propganda says Iran MAY want nuke weapons someday...but if the focus gets to those countries that actually HAVE nuke weapons at least it would be talking about reality. Bush era politics refused to talk to Iran, so this is another progressive step forward for the Obama Administration: first the job creation and economic stimulus plans, health care reform on track to victory, withdrawal from Iraq going according to timetable/treaty deal, talking to Iran instead of threatening another war based on lies, first Hispanic/woman on Supreme Court, rolling back some unfair Bush era tax breaks for the Superrich, proposed regulations to stop Wall St. scams, restoring power to unions, equal pay for woman, end of torture, freeing Gitmo innocents and proceeding towards closing it down, etc. The country certainly is in better hands. 2010 elections the next big battle. "The commission is committed to using its law enforcement authority aggressively to bring these schemes to a halt, and to continue deploying public alerts and educational materials," Leibowitz said. The FTC cannot criminally prosecute scam artists, such as a telemarketing outfit that he said told Americans they were eligible for $25,000 grants and offered to sell them a $59 book on writing grants, the chairman said, but the agency does refer the cases to state attorneys general, he said. But some legislators questioned if enough was being done. "These funds must be disbursed quickly," said Maine Senator Susan Collins The Government Accountability Office, a federal watchdog, told the panel it is worried the auditing process the federal government requires states to use for stimulus-related programs may not catch misspending.

Top 5 Current Email Scams You Should Know About
kkcapricorn

continued...........Virus E-Mails Many people who want to scam you will create programs and spy applications that will send them your bank details as soon as you use any online monetary service. They normally skulk around in the attachments of e-mails. Many scammers will find a funny picture or video and will send it to as many people as they can. They are getting into the mindset of your typical office worker who will forward the e-mail to all his/her family, friends and co-workers. When these email scams are successful, scammers can often retrieve thousands of peoples details. Think about it. If they send it to one person who then sends it to thirty, each of these people will again send it to all their contacts. Hundreds of peoples’ details all in a very short space of time.

What a surprise! Besides already being a foul source of polluted news and setting up propaganda scams throughout the world it seems -- gasp! -- on of it's chief of staff was taking money and gifts for favors, including supporting a fascist, zionist extremist private TV station. This sure is a great country. The banks steal billions anytime they want...and not only get loans to get out of debt but get paid interest on the loan they get.... ...can you image...borrowing money then getting you getting paid interest on the money you borrowed?? That fact just sticks in my mind about how Opposite to Good Government things can get and everything about Abramoff and his lobbying scams (he stole millions from Native American Indians and sent it to Israel for weapons) is "impressive," on the scale of how Opposite to What's Right as bad as it could get. These guys sell their souls for pennies, btw. Give a few hundred thousand and then get billions in return. Lobbying is just bribery

I don't care what it costs. Need database so these scum are caught and exposed as the fakes they are. It is a slap in the face to all of us that have served with pride and earned what awards we have from the battles. I know i can't even buy a cup of coffee with what i have but it is sense of self pride that matters most. And for some person that never even served it is bad enough. Worse are those that have served and know exactly what a slap in the face it is to us. I hope when exposed they are so embarrassed they have to relocate to someplace where people don't know what a fraud they are. And if received any benifits are made to repay twice the amount they scammed. Lower then scum they are in my book. Right up there with pedo's, child molesters, scam artists, and rest of societies dirtbags. Sorry so heated on this but omg it pisses me off.

Easy Google Profit And Other Work-At-Home Scams

Then it zeroes in on, and praises “Easy Google Profit,” which offers people work from home posting links on Web sites using text advertising applications. It all looked legitimate; except, as the reporter points out, the “Miami Gazette” does not exist. And in tiny, hard to read type below the newspaper logo, the following statement appeared: “This publication is an article advertisement for Easy Google Profit.” The reporter’s friend didn’t notice the warning signs and signed up with her debit card. She had unknowingly authorized this scam work-at-home company to charge $72 to her debit card every month until she called to cancel. For example, in April, 2009, the Texas Attorney General filed a complaint against Infusion Media, Inc., a company that allegedly ran at least three sham work-at-home websites, two of which capitalized on the Google brand: GoogleMoneyTree.com, Google TreasureChest.com and InternetIncomeIntiative.com.

Goldman Sachs - Scams & Bubbles

John McCain insisted that ending the moratorium on offshore drilling would be "very helpful in the short term," while Barack Obama in typical liberal-arts yuppie style argued that federal investment in hybrid cars was the way out. But it was all a lie. While the global supply of oil will eventually dry up, the shortterm flow has actually been increasing. In the six months before prices spiked, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the world oil supply rose from 85.24 million barrels a day to 85.72 million. Over the same period, world oil demand dropped from 86.82 million barrels a day to 86.07 million. Not only was the shortterm supply of oil rising, the demand for it was falling — which, in classic economic terms, should have brought prices at the pump down. So what caused the huge spike in oil prices? but the root cause had almost everything to do with the behavior of a few powerful actors determined to turn the once solid market into a speculative casino.
