12 Weirdest Things Ever Insured
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  9-3-2008    1
Whiskey company Cutty Sark was offering a $1.5 million prize for capturing the mythical Scottish lake inhabitant, the Loch Ness Monster, alive. They then took out home insurance against paying this prize, just in case someone actually did capture it alive. During the 1930s, then 13 year old Harvey Lowe insured his hands for $150,000, which was a large sum of money at the time. Harvey was the Yo-Yo World Champion of that era, having been playing since he was 12. He is still yo-yoing and filling up his current account to this day.

An Album of Indian Gods
invictus
by invictus  11-4-2006    1
The picture of the Goddess Kali was the inspiration for the famous Rolling Stones logo, designed by John Pasche in 1971. It was shown to the artist by Mick Jagger because he was looking for something similar. Of course the result was pretty different, but also wonderful. Thanks again to knslyr , for introducing this awesome blog to us months ago. Since then, it has become one of my favourites.

Bo Diddley Dies In Florida At 79
merrie
by merrie  6-2-2008
Like B.B. King and other great blues and rhythm-and-blues artists, Diddley's first exposure to music came from church, in this case the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church on Chicago's South Side. He learned to play the violin and the trombone. At age 12, Diddley took up the guitar after hearing John Lee Hooker's 1949 rhythm-and-blues hit, ``Boogie Chillen.'' ``Diddley claimed that playing the violin influenced his muted-string, choke-neck style of rhythm -- an early forerunner of funk that can be heard on songs like `Pretty Thing,''' the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame says in its official Bo Diddley biography.

carrerinyes
by carrerinyes  2-21-2008
Their new single, Politicians Are Great Guys Once You Get To Know Them, comes out on July 4th, when the band play an intimate gig, beamed across America, before an audience of close friends in the White House. Excitingly, music legend Christina Aguileira shares singing duties on the single, while consumers who purchase U2' newest will also be treated to the revamping of an old favourite, "All-American Irishman", containing a spoken-word intro "rap" by British PM Gordon Brown.

amazing how the beatles and dylan dominated, and in many way still do, the music scene. It was just a different kind of music. I wnder if any albums from our generation will have the staying power some of these have had. Such classics.
