Page 148 Of The Health Bill Will Allow Government To Determine The Care You Get
merrie
by merrie  12-23-2009    3
...... after this ridiculous bill has been passed, that will determine what is and what isn’t an acceptable health care choice for you, or your doctor. I’ve spoken about the other side of this before. Both the House and Senate versions of the health care bill create insurance exchanges that all Americans must by their health care through. The government controls what insurance plans are offered on those exchanges. Now, per this part of the bill, your insurance company can only pay out to health care providers who meet the government’s standards for providing care. Meaning, for instance, that if the government should decide to stop covering mammograms for women younger than 50 then you won’t be able to buy a plan which covers that, or go to a hospital which gives such screenings. The same goes for all sorts of treatments, drugs, medical devices, etc. If it isn’t government approved, you won’t get it.

Your Brain On Words
carrerinyes
by carrerinyes  9-27-2009    2
There is no one brain part which when taken away would suddenly rob you of your ability to read. We rely on the same old brain — the same brain that we inherited from our Homo Sapiens ancestors 200,000 years ago when they appeared in Africa. This means that the same brain that hunted wildlife and walked thru Ice Ages is the same brain that can now read a book a day.

4 Lakewood Officers Slain; Maurice Clemmons Sought for Questioning
merrie
by merrie  11-29-2009    6
Reward information call 253-591-5959 or 866-977-2362. Authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person involved in this morning's fatal shooting, described as a black man who is between 5-feet-7-inches and 5-feet-10-inches tall, and wearing a black coat and blue jeans in the Lakewood, Wash. area. Anybody with information is asked to call 253-591-5959 or 866-977-2362. A 37-year-old Tacoma man, Maurice Clemmons, who was recently released from jail, has an extensive criminal record in Pierce County and Arkansas, court records show. Clemmons is wanted in Arkansas and faces eight criminal charges in Washington state. The four officers were killed at about 8:15 a.m. by a scruffy-looking man who walked into a coffee shop and opened fire. The officers " three men and one woman " were found dead by deputies who arrived at Forza Coffee at 11401 Steele St. S., said Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer.

Marine reservist attacks Greek priest with tire iron, says "He's a terrorist!"
Lexica
by Lexica  11-13-2009    4
More: An exterior surveillance video of Tuesday's chase captured the two men in motion… "You see a very short, small man running, and an enormous, large muscular man chasing after him." This is what police say happened at 6:35 p.m. Monday: The priest's GPS gave him the wrong directions, leading him off Interstate 275 and into downtown Tampa. He followed a line of cars into a garage at the Seaport Channelside condominium to ask for help. He found Bruce, whose back was turned, bending over the trunk of his car, and he tapped his shoulder before saying, in broken English, "please" and "help." That's when Bruce reached for the tire iron. Police say that by the end of the chase, he had hit the priest four times… say that the priest was disoriented when they found him at the corner of Madison and Meridian avenues, but a translator at Tampa General Hospital helped him communicate. And that the GPS corroborates the priest's story.

I wonder if this is the new Democrat strategy....get their people to run as Republicans. And we're so asleep and/or complacent that conservatives just trust the R after their names. (sigh)

Is social media making us safer?
egoldstein
by egoldstein  10-1-2009
I suppose this may seem obvious, but i hadn't really thought about it. I've heard talk about how people shouldn't post things like "on vacation" on twitter because criminals can use that info to go rob your house. But the idea that people have instantaneous ways to get information and reach out definitely suggests that we could become more efficient in crime avoidance. Thinking that a great idea for a new service would be some kind of social network 911 call. Press a certain button and automatically post an alert to the following people via twitter, facebook, sms, etc. Then, using GPS, the people could get your message and your location.
