POPS"Thank My Lucky Scars" Ward found a "life peace" most of us only dream or read about. His body is covered with scars and he realized that each "scar" was the one thing in his life that brought him closer to the people and experiences that helped others make important transitions in their lives. He does not know the meaning of the word "can't," in fact it's banned from his vocabulary except when he is giving one of his witty speeches.

POPSLife and Death Decisions No Longer Above Obama’s “Pay Grade” “Bearing False Witness”: Later, Obama delivered a similar message to an online program (audio) set up by the National Council of Churches. In it, he claimed that “There are some folks out there who are, frankly, bearing false witness” about the Dems proposed health care bill. Death Panels? He insisted that it was an “extraordinary lie” to suggest that there would be “death panels” to decide who gets care and who dies. Sarah Palin has already debunked that nonsense and the Senate acknowledged the problem by removing that provision in their version of the bill. And what’s more, we have Obama’s own words in an interview he gave to the New York Times on April 28 in which he discussed end of life care: THE PRESIDENT: So that’s where I think you just get into some very difficult moral issues. But that’s also a huge driver of cost, right?

POPSRick Warren Stresses Need for Christians to Build Bridges Building relationships and respect with unbelievers...good. Failing to speak about the fundamentals of the Christian faith (while professing it) gives a false gospel. Speak the pure, unadulterated Biblical Christian faith and let the cookie crumble. Trying to build a common ground with other religions leads to a perversion of the Gospel. Jesus Christ did not mince His words.

POPSHope Quote Psalm 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly. Romans 12:2-5 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. 3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 2 Corinthians 12:9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

POPSMcCain Ad Touts Stem Cell Research – But Which Kind? In August, McCain told Pastor Rick Warren in a nationally televised interview from Saddleback Church in California that human rights begin “at the moment of conception.” According to the McCain campaign Web site, the Republican nominee – who claims a 25-year pro-life voting record – opposes “the intentional creation of human embryos for research purposes.” However, while he was campaigning for the GOP nomination, McCain professed his belief in the promise of embryonic stem cell research. Stem cells obtained from adult humans have been widely acclaimed for their ability to promote human health and stave off dreaded illnesses. Stem cells obtained from human embryos, however, have not been successful in yielding results in scientific research thus far.

POPSAn Open Letter to President Obama About the Republicans (From a Former Republican) The Religious Right supply the kind of people who at McCain and Palin rallies were yelling things such as "kill him" about you. That's the constituency to which your hand was extended when looking for compromise on your financial bailout bill. There's only one thing that makes sense for you now. Mr. President, you need to forget a bipartisan approach and get on with the business of governing by winning each battle. You will never be able to work with the Republicans because they hate you. Believe me, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are the norm not the exception. James Dobson and the rest are praying for you to fail. The neoconservatives are gnashing their teeth and waiting for you to "sell out Israel" or "show weakness" in Afghanistan, whatever, so they can declare you a traitor.

POPSThe Inaugural Prayer has become less inclusive '...He chose Rick Warren, who opposes gay marriage, and then added Gene Robinson, the gay Episcopal bishop from New Hampshire, to pray at a morning service. He's also reportedly going to have a full range of faiths -- including Muslims and Jews -- at the prayer service the next day. But at the high-profile, official event -- the swearing in -- there will be just Rick Warren and Joseph Lowery, both Protestants.>

POPSStormtroopers For Jesus There is a radical branch of right-wing Christianity which goes by several labels: Dominionism, Dominion Theology, Xtian Reconstructionism, Xtian Nationalism, among others, that seeks to replace the constitution with the bible (including all those lovely death-by-stoning-&-burning crimes like eating shellfish and wearing blended fabrics). Now, it seems that Pastor Rick Warren is part of this movement. Also from the source: He lies, prevaricates and removes things from his website that might be embarrassing (like the dinosaurs and forbidding active homosexuals from joining Saddleback Church--something he yanked after he met with Melissa Etheridge, because like she has a wife and so probably has sex, and it's like better to have Teh Celebrity Gay than to tell the truth, Rick?) Warren then exhorts the crowd to hold up the sign by their seats that say "Whatever it takes" and concludes his speech with: " Whatever it takes"

POPSGay bishop to kick off Inauguration events It doesn't totally erase the fact that Rick Warren will be doing the invocation and the actual inauguration, but this is at least an important acknowledgment of the new president's support of the LGBT community.
