The Sad Illusion Of Happy Customers
debbyski
by debbyski  11-11-2009    10
Best Buy is not being picked on here, it could be them or anyone else. As a regular part of my work I have to trudge through large retail stores all the time and my biggest complaint is the lack of help. If you want us to buy, then have enough informed sales people to help us and get us through the lines quicker! "It's not rocket science. To make customers happy, all you need to do is offer high-quality goods at competitive prices and staff your stores with a sufficient number of well-trained personnel to ensure a smooth shopping experience."

Federal court: Yes, SF can ban sale of tobacco in drugstores
Lexica
by Lexica  8-13-2009
More: "The problem with your argument is that any time the government bans the sale of anything, it becomes a First Amendment issue," Kozinski told Collins. The ordinance, the first of its kind in the nation, prohibits sales of cigarettes and other tobacco products at San Francisco's nearly 60 drugstores. It exempts supermarkets and big-box retail stores that also have pharmacies, the basis of a separate suit by Walgreens claiming unconstitutional discrimination. A San Francisco Superior Court judge denied Walgreens' request for an injunction to keep the ban from taking effect. A state appellate court is preparing to hear the company's appeal. Philip Morris also sued unsuccessfully to halt the ordinance. U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken of Oakland ruled in December that San Francisco was free to prohibit conduct, such as tobacco sales, and was not trying to regulate speech. The appeals court did not say when it would rule on Philip Morris' appeal of Wilken's decisio

Sprott: "It's The Real Economy, Stupid"
merrie
by merrie  7-22-2009    1
Anything that starts with "We are now in the early stages of a depression" is a must read. (Sprott Asset Management pdf file) via Zero Hedge http://zerohedge.blogspot.com/2009/07/sprott-its-real-economy-stupid.html US Housing Market Failure: The annual pace of new home sales is now 342,000, a whopping 32.8% below the rate in May 2008. At the current sales pace, there is 10.2 months worth of inventory overhang sitting on the market, dragging down prices and encouraging potential buyers to wait it out as prices deflate... New home sales are down 73% from the all time high of 1,283,000 new homes sold in 2005 (mild recession?)... Rail Car Loadings Suffering: For the first 26 weeks of 2009, US railroads reported cumulative volume of 6,806,892 carloads, down 19.2% from 2008. Stock Market ...at the end of June 2009, the S&P 500 traded at an inflation adjusted P/E ratio of 16.08 And now the Democrats want to destroy healthcare by

Valve: Are Games Too Expensive?
ratilfar
by ratilfar  2-20-2009
"We sold more in revenue this last weekend than we did when we launched the product," says Newell. "We were driving a huge uptick in revenue and attracting new customers." And while people believe that we're "screwing" retail, Newell showed that brick-and-mortar sales were unaffected by the online discount. This phenomenon is not limited to Valve games. Over the holidays, Steam discounted third-party titles. Sales increased 300 percent and units-sold increased by 600 percent

New Retail Spending Figures Suggest Recession May Be Over . . .
merrie
by merrie  2-12-2009    2
. . . . Democrats Attempt to Ram Through Multi-Generational Financial Rape Anyway So what does the Democratic Party, firmly in control of the House, Senate, and Presidency, attempt to do? They attempt to rob you blind, paying off left-wing special interest groups with your tax dollars. Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid are expanding welfare, folks, with with a very clear intention of putting you on it. People dependent on government, embrace government, and Democrats hope if they make enough of you dependent upon them, they'll be in power for decades to come. Perhaps you'll let them win, and fundamentally change this country into a socialist state. Americans love their freedom and their independence, and the risk and opportunity that independence brings. So I have a simple question for you: are you still enthralled with the core beliefs of our founding fathers, and not so easily led to slaughter?

Fed Slashes Interest Rate to Near Zero, Recession Worsening
blueridge

Christmas retail sales are bad, so the Fed enacts record low interest rates (between banks). Drastic measures, which might worsen things instead of improve. Ask your bank if your credit card rates will decline with this....they will not. The banks get all the benefit, not the consumer.
