POPS"Magic Cheese" Hoax Bilked Thousands Before long, Van Erpe's marks were selling off cattle and property to raise money to pump into the scheme. To speed things up, she promised hefty bonuses to cheese-makers who enrolled their friends and family. In time, of course, Van Erpe stopped showing up with the big checks and the cheese started piling up. Currently, tons of the stuff are rotting in warehouses in Chile. Van Erpe ran a similar scam in Peru, but, instead of encouraging investors to make cheese, she convinced them to grow mushrooms. Van Erpe was subsequently arrested, and the case is currently being investigated by French authorities. There is no word yet on what Chile plans to do with all the cheese.

POPSFishermen Don't Know the Difference Between Copper and Fiber Optic This is actually a big problem everywhere. Thiefs are going to construction sites to raid copper. Air conditioning units are being taken. Locally, AT&T had to replace a big chunk of phone cable they left exposed overnight. People are getting electocuted trying to steel live wires. All kinds of mayhem is occurring due to the high price of copper.

POPSNow This is a Little More Palatable I've spoken out a lot about government bail outs, but reading this article puts me a little more at ease. One of my biggest concerns is that tax payers were bailing out banks and consumers who made bad decisions with their money. This isn't fair to those of us who chose our mortgages more wisely. It looks like as part of the program, the financial gain or benefits people receive with the bail outs must be re-paid, at least partially at some point, through profits from the eventual sale of their home. Now the big question will be to see what the FHA plans to do with those profits when they do come in.
