Owl brand instant ginger tea with honey
Spiritualmonkey
by Spiritualmonkey  10-26-2009
Research has shown ginger to be effective against nausea, better than the ingredients in common motion-sickness medications like Dramamine, but with none of the side effects. {{Lexica}}'s stomach is easily upset, so we keep this tea on hand at all times and she starts most mornings with a mug of hot ginger tea with half a lemon squeezed into it. And even if you're not prone to nausea, it's very tasty! More: If you have a decrease in your hunger level, an increase in clear phlegm production , a slow digestion, joint swelling and/or a pale flabby tongue, a daily cup of Owl Instant Ginger Tea with Honey can do wonders to circulate and restore your body's digestive harmony.

Jane is a young woman living in Vienna who, while working as a medical editor, was horrified to learn in early 2009 of the fiasco in which a Baxter International research facility in Orth-Donau, Austria, sent a quantity of human H3N2 viral material to 18 European laboratories.

Water on the moon
HobbeLink
by HobbeLink  9-24-2009
These images show a very young lunar crater on the side of the moon that faces away from Earth, as viewed by NASA's Moon Mineralogy Mapper on the Indian Space Research Organization's Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft. On the left is an image showing brightness at shorter infrared wavelengths. On the right, the distribution of water-rich minerals (light blue) is shown around a small crater. Both water- and hydroxyl-rich materials were found to be associated with material ejected from the crater.

The DNA Mystery: Scientists Stumped By "Telepathic" Abilities
Mohir
by Mohir  9-22-2009    2
Even so, research published in ACS’ Journal of Physical Chemistry B, shows very clearly that homology recognition between sequences of several hundred nucleotides occurs without physical contact or presence of proteins. Double helixes of DNA can recognize matching molecules from a distance and then gather together, all seemingly without help from any other molecules or chemical signals. This recognition effect may help increase the accuracy and efficiency of the homologous recombination of genes, which is a process responsible for DNA repair, evolution, and genetic diversity. The new findings may also shed light on ways to avoid recombination errors, which are factors in cancer, aging, and other health issues.

Newsweek: US Intelligence Finds no Evidence of Iranian N-Weapons Program
ratilfar
by ratilfar  9-20-2009
The other news is about so-called suppressed documents in the files at the International Atomic Energy Agency, which are alleged to show a nuclear weapons research program. Gareth Porter argues convincingly that the reason that the IAEA never took the documents seriously is that there is every reason to think they are forgeries, perhaps by the Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK) political cult, which wants to have the US overthrow the clerical regime in Tehran so that MEK can take over the country. As for the Western press leaks that Iran now has enough nuclear material to make a bomb or now has the technical ability to make a bomb, both are nonsense. You need to enrich uranium to 90% to make a bomb. Iran claims to be able to enrich to 4% and a lot of observers think that is an exaggeration. So ipso facto Iran cannot possibly have produced enough fissile material for a bomb. Moreover, you need to have a weapons program trying to enrich to 90% to produce a bomb, which Iran does not have, from ev

Discovered particles from the most massive explosions in the Milky Way.
dopesick
by dopesick  8-26-2009
Rest of the article: This star died and exploded in the Milky Way. When a star of this mass dies, most of its material is ejected and ploughs a pathway through a massive, stellar wind. This wind has been created earlier in the death process, when the star lost part of its original mass. The wind blows away from the star, and the final definitive explosion of the star then drives new material through the previously established wind. A shock-wave in space Electrons and positrons are accelerated during the process and create a shock-wave, similar to that formed when an aeroplane breaks the sound barrier. Julia Becker and her colleagues show that it is just such a shock-wave that has created the observed particle flux that has astounded scientists. Wow...

Exotic High Tech Explosives Positively Identified in World Trade Center Dust
foxyarse
by foxyarse  8-22-2009
The paper ends with the statement, "Based on these observations, we conclude that the red layer of the red/gray chips we have discovered in the WTC dust is active, unreacted thermitic material, incorporating nanotechnology, and is a highly energetic pyrotechnic or explosive material." Ordinary thermite burns quickly and can melt through steel, but it is not explosive. Nanothermite, however, can be formulated as a high explosive. It is stable when wet and can be applied like paint. The presence of pre-planted explosives in the WTC buildings calls into question the official story that the buildings were destroyed by the airplane collisions and fire alone. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the official government agency that investigated the building collapses, did not test for residues of explosives. Full article at source

Way Cool stuff. The medical applications for this type of thing could be incredible. Granted that this is more material science than Tissue ReEngineering, but similar principles. Imagine the potential for transportation, where vehicles could expand or contract based on the need of the driver (small size for 1 person) or it's soccer night and a SUV size is needed, presto - all from the same block of "stuff". Sooo much postive stuff. So long as they don't turn into The Replicators as on Stargate SG-1 :-)
