POPSThree years in the making, it's every boy's dream... The undercarriage retracts and the controls work, although the levers are so small they have to be operated with a pair of tweezers. Young C Park, from Honolulu, took three years and 6,000 hours to complete the model. Cut away on the left side to show the internal workings, all the sections were machined from common aluminium roof flashing. The metal is annealed to the proper softness, making it easier to form and carve. Mr Park, 77, used more than 50ft of aluminium, reforming and shaping it on a lathe until he was happy with the result. The metal was usually moulded over a wooden support, but for the large area of the skin behind the cockpit he used the ball of his foot to get the correct shape. POPSEdgar Allan Poe finally getting proper funeral
If you are a fan of E.A.Poe, as I am, this entire article is a must read. ~~~ "When they dug up Poe's body in 1875 to move it, it was mostly skeletal remains," Jerome said. "I've seen remains of people who've been in the ground since that time period, and there's hardly anything left." Instead, Jerome commissioned local special-effects artist Eric Supensky to create an eerily lifelike — or deathlike — mock-up of Poe's corpse. "I got chills," Jerome said Monday upon seeing the body for the first time. "This is going to freak people out." The body will lie in state for 12 hours Wednesday at the Poe House, a tiny rowhome in a gritty section of west Baltimore. Visitors are invited to pay their respects. Following the viewing will be an all-night vigil at Poe's grave . Anyone who attends will have the opportunity to deliver a tribute. On Sunday morning, a horse-drawn carriage will transport the replica of Poe's body from his former home to the graveyard for the funeral.

POPSThe Obama Hustle Their blithe leader, Barak Obama, with a glance, a smile and a lot of helium-inflated rhetoric, was suppose to dazzle Americans -- dazzle them long enough to complete the stealthy process of transforming the nation into a reasonable replica of a European socialist state. Whether modern France or Russia (circa, 1950) is your call. Now to finish the nation's transformation from red, white and blue to institutional gray, they may have to use a crowbar to pry open the window. The crowbar is also known as "reconciliation." Co-opting the nation's financial and automotive sectors is no mean feat. Mussolini must be smiling from somewhere. The absurdly named economic stimulus would be better coined "The Democrats' Pig Trough.") The "trade" part falls squarely on the shoulders of most every American not considered elite. Americans are expected to trade prosperity and their standards of living for the satisfaction of helping 1) restore the Garden of Eden;

POPSEarly Indian Motorcycles: "Oscar Hedstrom was probably the first American to literally incorporate an internal combustion engine with a bicycle. Oscar, a former bicycle racer, was a capable engineer. In 1899 he produced his first motorized bicycle, setting the stage for creating an American icon—Indian motorcycles."

POPSSpider builds life-sized decoys more: "We predicted that spiders with prey carcass decorations on webs should receive fewer wasp attacks because spiders should be well camouflaged by such objects," says Tso. "To our surprise, spiders on decorated webs received far more attacks than those on undecorated webs." That confirmed that the decorations attracted predators rather than acting as camouflage. However, Tseng and Tso suspected that these decorations might also redirect enough attacks to make them worthwhile.
