POPSMeanwhile, in the convention hall Ooooooooh, Sarah-Bara-COO-dah! If you read the actual lyrics though, this clearly is a song to be sung by Barack Obama. He's just realized that he's about to be ambushed from the weeds by the Barracuda, and forced to his knees. Not long ago, he and "the porpoise" (Joe Biden, pre-hair plugs) were just "Selling a song," with "no right, no wrong" — just playing "a whisper game" involving a "name." This is clearly a reference to the "McSame" meme on which they were relying so much. And "sell me, sell you," the porpoise and the singer croon to each other in close harmony. Oh, yeah: It's about Obama and Biden, all right.

POPSWhy I Love Clipmarks So, i didn't write this, I read it. It was posted by Clipmarks user onlinedesign in the "Why I Use Clipmarks" section of her profile. You can click the source link to visit her page. I wanted to clip this because it really moved me. It is exactly what i hope Clipmarks can provide for people. Knowing that we have accomplished this for some people gives me great pride and satisfaction. I could never adequately convey how impressed, inspired and grateful i am for the collective contributions of the people who share the content, thoughts, opinion, passion and perspective that gets mixed together here on clipmarks.com. I think it's truly remarkable.

POPSUS Military Deaths, Just a Number Only, declined, the casualties first suffered, since, the latest, at least 4,153, since....2003 These words used in the article seem to detach themselves from the fact that "our " brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, husbands, and friends are being killed in a war with Iraq. It makes me think that people may be viewing this as just " war " and maybe compared to " the Vietnam War " and not as " the war on terrorism " or " the fight for freedom." Maybe " that " is why people protest this war, not against the soldiers that are led there, but " the Politics behind it ". I may be wrong and you may not care what I think, but I hope " I still have the freedom ", to say it.

POPSWho are you? ask wiki... By Sunday morning, YoungTrigg came forward, still anonymous, on his or her Wikipedia user page: “It’s not true that ‘all of my edits made Palin look better.’ ” The new availability of info, and hence influence poses many new questions of ethics.. it seems like the future-now becomes more interesting... :)

POPSWaPo's Colbert King Implies PUMAs Are Racist A Suicidal Choice for Clinton Supporters: Colbert I. King: Op-Ed Columnist Her reversal in fortunes was stunning. She lost her front-runner status in the Iowa snows, and she didn't see it coming. And yet, through pure grit and with a single-minded focus on winning, Hillary Clinton nearly pulled it off. So there is a rawness to her defeat, a feeling that Obama snatched what didn't belong to him, a belief that she was horribly mistreated in the process. The anger of some Clinton supporters over her defeat and what they perceive as her snubbing for a spot on the Democratic ticket may be clouding their judgment. So what's drawing Hillary Clinton's die-hard fans to John McCain? Is the attraction only skin-deep? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/29/AR2008082902891.html?sub=AR

POPSThe Company Store Deregulation. "I owe my soul to the company store" is a reference to the truck system and to debt bondage. Under this system workers were not paid cash; rather they were paid with unexchangeable credit vouchers for goods at the company store (usually referred to as scrip). This made it impossible for workers to store up cash savings. Workers also usually lived in company-owned dormitories or apartment buildings, the rent for which was automatically deducted from their pay.

POPSHope and Change—for McCain [Victor Davis Hanson] He played well off the serial Obama gaffes like the tire-pressure sermon, while solidifying the base on abortion, drilling, and now his VP pick. He looks the relaxed candidate with the magnanimous reference to Obama's nomination in contrast to the herky-jerky ankle-biting from the Obama handlers over the Palin appointment. Now the pairing of the septuagenarian warhorse, alongside the youthful mom of five from Alaska contrasts well with two doom and gloom, DC natty liberal senators. The 72-year old McCain is still running behind the Messiah, and who knows whether the sudden 3.3 GDP good news on the economy, the stability in Iraq, and cooling off of gas price spikes will hold or play a role. But given the Democratic dynamics this year, the overt bias of the media, and the rock-star quality of Obama, being this close as September nears is a tribute to McCain's toughness and the savvy of his staff.

POPSMSNBC prez defends convention team
On “Morning Joe” the following day, a clearly agitated Scarborough went off on Shuster during a discussion of Iraq, which quickly devolved over several cringe-worthy minutes into personal attacks, such as Scarborough telling the world how his colleague missed the show three times by oversleeping. "Are you Rip Van Shuster?” Scarborough asked. “Have you been sleeping for the past couple of months?” But Scarborough, a former Republican congressman from Florida, became enraged when Shuster made a reference to “your party.” Asked by Scarborough what his party was, Shuster said he was an “independent.” "I feel so comforted by the fact that you're an independent,” Scarborough said, in a mocking tone. “I bet everybody at MSNBC has independent on their voting cards. Oh, we're down the middle now.” (Shuster left the set, but returned later to hug it out, "Entourage"-style.) That night, Scarborough told NPR that he “get frustrated by people who have an obvious partisan bias that don't

POPSstone spheres I am such a sucker for stone spheres. It's like up there with animals and plants, I would absolutely love a fantastic large collection. These ones are phenomenal and the prices are reasonable as well. Too bad I don't have extra money for it. :/ Maybe I should consider just one. :) On another note, this is my first test of clipmarks. Let's see how it goes.

POPSBaku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Oil Pipeline Back to Normal Operations, BP Says continued...... backing out of the BTC pipeline and diverting its oil through Russia amid the military conflict in Georgia. Now, Erlan Idrissov, Kazakhstan’s ambassador to the U.S., has written in to say that his country plans to continue with the pipeline project. The crux of his letter: I would like to make clear that the allegations made in the article with reference to the Turkish “Referans” newspaper that Kazakhstan is pulling out of the BTC project are very far from likelihood. The article questions Kazakhstan’s commitment to the existing resource transportation agreements saying that “some countries seem to be bailing out of the existing ”. I would like to address here the core of the issue. First of all, Kazakhstan has declared and more than once proved its unwavering commitment to the principle of diversification of the routes of hydrocarbons transportation to the world markets.

POPSPhysicists Seek Answers to Quantum Correlations The physicists ruled out several possible classical explanations for the instantaneous communication. For one thing, they showed that the photons did not share information before leaving Geneva, and so they didn´t travel knowing about each other´s properties. In another test, the scientists showed that no communication could have occurred through a different reference frame, as might happen because of the photons´ high speeds. According to Einstein´s theory of relativity, observers moving at high speeds can get different measurements of the same event because they have different reference frames. But, by performing tests over a complete rotation of the Earth, the researchers ruled out this possibility. "We think space and time are important because that´s the kind of monkeys we are,"

POPSGot too many comments to keep track of? coComment! I'm really likin' coComment. Before, I had all these bookmarks in a folder to track comments I'd left on sites. It got pretty gnarly (in a bad way). Now, for the most part, I can use coComment. While it doesn't do forums, doesn't recognize some sites like Lifehacker and doesn't seem to work with Clipmarks either (yet!), it *does* work with most blogs and keeps all comment threads tucked on a neat page for future reference. coComment's saved me a lot of time thus far!

POPSBBC hates criticism
This is a blog the BBC, financed through mine and yours forced subscriptions - you do not have a say in whether or not you pay - because concern are raised in it as to the efficacy of the Beebs editing and reporting. Whilst the Beeb swapped and moved channels so that the elderly and dishevelled licence payer lost contact with their chosen sport, it appeared that the only sportsman that the Beeb was interested in was a brilliant Jamaican sprinter. As there was no British interest in the event, it could be assumed that sports where Brits were going for Gold would take full coverage. No. The Beeb could not even flash up on the screen that the events were going on- on a defined channel. And if they objected to the open reference to the winner of the 400 mts, lets get it straight. It was the courts that reinstated a woman who could not make it to a specified location, three times, but could get on the plane to China, for her to run against a proven drug taker, a competitor banned for drug u

POPSRussia Nullifies French-Brokered Armistice With Georgia
-- are implemented by Russia only in the sense that it no longer shoots or bombards Georgian troops and civilians. Russian troops, however, are blowing up bridges and other infrastructure on Georgian highways and railways, destroying Georgian military bases deep inside the country, and looting local Georgian civilian administrations at gunpoint -- all of this under the Sarkozy-brokered armistice. Point 3 in the agreement, “free access for humanitarian assistance and permission for refugees to return,” has also been torn apart. Access is impeded by Russia’s de facto naval blockade of Georgia’s coast and interdiction of cross-country transport in Georgia, continuing under this “armistice.” The few U.S. Air Force humanitarian assistance flights can not possibly cope with the magnitude of the task. The agreement’s 4th point, “Georgian troops are to return to the places of their regular stationing,” seems largely compromised by the devastation of those bases deep inside Georgia.......

POPSPolish President Criticizes France, Germany For Being Too Soft On Moscow
President Kaczynski accused them of being too soft on Moscow due to their commercial ties with Russia. The statement on the president's Web site also said Kaczynski assured Saakashvili that he would continue to "support Georgia's integration in Euro-Atlantic structures" — a reference to Georgia's NATO aspirations. Poland and the ex-Soviet republics of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia , all new EU members, have sharply condemned Russia for its military incursion into Georgia amid the conflict in South Ossetia. After the fighting broke out, the presidents of the four countries issued a joint statement calling Russia's policy "imperialist and revisionist" and urging NATO and the European Union to stand up to Moscow. Leaders from those four nations followed that up with a trip in recent days to Tbilisi, joined by Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko, to show their support to Georgia. Germany and France have been less critical of Russia. Sarkozy holds the EU's rotating preside

POPSBack to the Future: It's the Cold War Again No one really believes that the US is deploying these missile interceptor systems near Russia as a deterrent against terrorists or "rogue" nations. They are intended for Russia and because Russia's capacity to produce nuclear missiles is substantial, the factory orders in the US for these systems can be ongoing for some time. Can you hear the cash register ring? The tragedy is that it is is reigniting the Cold War all over again with all its tensions and potential for nuclear weapon exchanges and, of course, massive profits for military industries who will "need" to incessantly develop countermeasures to countermeasures.

POPSRussia: Poland risks attack because of US missiles Whoa! That's some plain-talkin' threats. For me, this reveals how much more serious the goings-on in Georgia really are to all of eastern Europe and to us/US. Poland has been threatened by Russia for quite some time; the missile shield is another point for the Russian authorities.

POPSEurope's 'Earth Explorer' to Map Planet "Inside Out" From Space The five hundred million dollar satellite is expected to survive for 20 months - at twenty-five million a month that makes it even higher maintenance than Paris Hilton, but infinitely more useful. Data provided by the satellite will map everything from ocean depths to the magma core of the planet, providing data of unprecedented accuracy for everything from climate physics to geophysics. In an interesting coincidence, GOCE will be launched on the same day the Large Hadron Collider powers up. Project leader Kal-El urges readers not to pay too much attention to this, nor ask why the nose cone seems to be full of diapers and a red cape.
