POPSLAO | Blogging Cities 'The Metro Way' Metroblogging started off as a more locally focused alternative news source in Los Angeles and has turned into the largest and fastest growing network of city-specific blogs on the Web. We got sick of reading local news that was syndicated from the other side of the country, or was just repurposed national chit chat that had nothing to do with our city. We created our first blog as a throw back to the days when a local news paper focused on local issues, and you could walk down to the corner coffee shop and chat up the reporters whose column you read earlier that day. This idea didn’t stay in one city for long and before we knew it there were Metblogs in Chicago, Portland, Karachi, and Vienna. Today there are over 50 Metblogs in countries all over the world. Local politics, event reviews, lunch recommendations and ways to avoid that big traffic jam downtown. If it’s happening in our cities, we’re on it. ___ http://google.twi.bz/St

POPSBetfair trading What is QuantSports? It's all in the name. Take the Quantitative analysis used by some of the most influential day traders, and apply it to sports. What is Quantitatve analysis? It's what makes up the bulk of day trading in the financial markets, in short it directly refers to 'the use of computerized mathematical analysis to support decision making, make business forecasts or investment recommendations'. The aim with QuantSports is to expand a previously undeveloped niche in the application of these advanced technical indicators when applied to the rapidly expanding betting exchange markets.

Openness should lead to honesty, but it will not. It is the likes of these people, but not necessarily these immediate persons, who pontificate over the pennies that means the differences for old and vulnerable people to be cold and fed at home. Having met these types on a regular basis, I hold no reason to think they are some form of ultra-superior being. Like so many of the senior officers in HM Forces, they have gone along with the tide and feathered their own nests, where the general population struggles with the ineptitudes of their offices. I offer just one example, the insidious 1975 Social Security and Pensions Act which stole from hundreds of thousands of former regulars their legal entitlement to an equitable pension. Note that senior offices and politicians ensured that their pensions are secured, were secured and will always be secured. If I am wrong, then why has Parliament not implemented the Hutton recommendations in full, and gone one further and blocked the exce

POPSThe end of the computer age? I don't think so. And some people seem to expect more from the web, not to say from computers. However, it may be the case that the changes that are to come are greater and harder than those that have been seen so far. So I will just leave this here and let you draw the conclusions.

POPSOnline privacy talks heat up Like all "technology" uses, the Privacy issues stem from the equal potential for "acceptable" and "unacceptable" uses that have both beneficial and harmful consequences. Countless examples of "extreme" uses exist on both sides of these issues, with the result that the only certainty is that those most likely to engage most vocally in the debate(s) are those that will have the greatest vested (and generally "undisclosed") interests.

POPSSelf-guided walking and eating tour of Oakland's Fruitvale District More: Browse, watch the tortillas come out of the machine, maybe buy some take-out for later. I love the way all the staff say where they're from (including Oakland) on their name tags. There's also a churro vendor on that corner. When you're ready to eat again, cross back over High St. to El Grullo and get a carnitas taco. Walk back down to International. If El Gordo is open, get an al pastor taco and a suardero taco. Continue back down International to El Huarache Azteca. Get something made with fresh masa with chicken tinga (chicken stewed in chipotle sauce) -- a sope would be a good choice… Walk down E. 12th to Nieves Cinco de Mayo for ice cream, and you're back at the BART station. Have fun! Pace yourself!

POPSLooking at the SCIENCE behind the new mammography recommendations More: So the panel, which does not take cost into consideration when making its reports, no longer recommends regular breast screenings for this population. For women between 50 and 59, the evidence shows that a mammogram every two years preserves the benefits without increasing the harms. Though even for them, mammograms are far from a panacea. (The recommendations for prostate cancer screenings have similarly declined, as have tests for colon cancer.) Mammograms are so unreliable—as many as one in 10 gives a false positive reading— a woman is nearly guaranteed of having a false positive test in her lifetime . These lead to biopises (not a painless procedure) and sometimes radiation and chemotherapy for tumors that were so slow growing they would never have killed you anyway.

POPSBreast exam guidelines now call for less testing So, now it begins. When once-upon-a-time our health care services were geared toward preventive medicine NOW we are moving towards more *rational* routines. I have had several *scares* and been grateful for the outcomes, but that has not been several of many of my friends. Just fancy talk to make us more complacent and willing droids to what is coming. If you get cancer, you're not worth the treatment...too expensive under this health care bill.
