The CIA influence on Hollywood
ratilfar
by ratilfar  11-15-2008    1
The model for this is the defence department's "open" but barely publicised relationship with Hollywood. The Pentagon, for decades, has offered film-makers advice, manpower and even hardware - including aircraft carriers and state-of-the-art helicopters. All it asks for in exchange is that the US armed forces are made to look good. So in a previous Scott film, Black Hawk Down, a character based on a real-life soldier who had also been a child rapist lost that part of his backstory when he came to the screen.

Avatars and Second Life adultery:
merrie
by merrie  11-14-2008    3
~ ~ ~ ~ A tale of online cheating and real-world heartbreak~ ~ ~ ~ Kira and Rik, you see, don’t exist. They are avatars, online characters who were created by Kristen and Steve in Second Life, an internet fantasy world, where you can reinvent yourself and embark on the kind of adventures you’ve always dreamed of – including a WAG-style white wedding with 20ft train, and even, as we have seen today, the phenomenon of cyber-adultery. “Kira was everything I should have been,” says Kristen, who has a 12-year-old son. “Beautiful, blonde and slim. My real life was diabolical and I wanted an escape. In Second Life I could be who I wanted to be, and when I met Nik I was in control for the first time in years. I got my life back.” It gets even weirder once you realise that Kristen’s mother logged on to Second Life to see her “daughter” Kira wed Nik and that Steve’s mate was his best man, watching, all choked up, on the sidelines.

It sounds like a virtual-reality soap opera.. meeting in virtual, then in "reality" marrying on both, cheating on virtual, divorcing in "real"... confusing. :)

8-year old victim of violence, rampaging in video game industry.
aklimento
by aklimento  11-12-2008    2
She described said her son as a normal boy who plays video games nonstop , dotes on his new dog, a boxer, and enjoys playing softball and basketball with his father. Ms. Bloomfield also confirmed that Mr. Romero had recently bought their son a .22 rifle for hunting, a common pastime of young boys and their fathers in this rugged town. Little boy! Bring to the court in shackles those, who making money and good living nurturing violence in society. The boy played video games non-stop and in real life own .22 rifle and attack dog. What else you want from the child? You, adults, can you always distinguish dream from reality? The mother blew him kisses, when he was led in shackles and told him to put some of them in his pocket. Later he asked her some more for the pocket...

Morals vs. Liberty
Rustee
by Rustee  11-8-2008    2
Thomas Davidson expressed it this way: "That which is not free is not responsible, and that which is not responsible is not moral. In other words, freedom is the condition of morality." An interesting perspective that morality inevitably reduces liberty, yet without the liberty to choose, one cannot be moral.

My Vote For President!
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  11-4-2008    3
Healthcare: Free healthcare for everyone! With the doctors we have left, we will need to make sure that we keep as many people alive as possible. Abortion: Not really an option since we lost 2/3 of the world's population. National Security: How about international security. We need to protect our world from any future invasion. There won't be another alien attack under Whitmore's watch. Education: It looks like education is free too. We need all the smart people we can get. Due do the disaster we only have a few college campuses to choose from. We want a President who doesn't believe in red or blue states, but one who believes that we should spend every single dollar on a pending alien attack. He should be a single dad who's sort of kind of looking for a woman. These are the things I need to see in my candidate. :p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag44dRO8LEA

Fiction has, once again, foreshadowed reality
balthazarus
by balthazarus  11-3-2008    4
Certainly some of the parallels are coincidental. It is unlikely, for example, that the writers knew Mr. Obama had an affection for Bob Dylan when they made Santos a Dylan fan. But it is the unintentional similarities that make the DVDs of the sixth and seventh seasons, which at the time received mixed reviews, so rewarding to watch now. In both “The West Wing” and in real life, for example, the Phillies played in the World Series during the election campaign. :) more similarities inside...

Atheist Ad
skennard
by skennard  10-27-2008
In London, an Humanistic group is purchasing ads on the sides of buses. The quote from the ad is the first in the clipped quotes. The second clipped quote is from Richard Dawkins, probably the most famous atheist. He thinks those who believe in God have checked their brains at the door. However, the greater thought you put to God, the more faith you have, not less. When you deal with the issues with life--like the quote put on the buses--it should lead you to God. The last quote is from a Christian. The issue with Atheism is that they don't deal with real life. "Don't worry, be happy" doesn't deal with the questions people are really asking. If people decided to run an ad like this in your town, don't fret, but engage people in the discussion. God can and will use these to bring people to a greater understanding of who he is.

SNL skit gets the facts they' rather hide.
davboz
by davboz   10-8-2008    2
Kudos to SNL for the balance in parody of the best kind. That which doesn't have to change the reality in any fundamental way. Because it iis so on point. DLoad it for yourself right here: http://msunderestimated.com/SNLBailoutSkit.wmv Click to it here: http://patdollard.com/2008/10/it-is-here-the-banned-snl-skit-cannot-hide-from-louie/ http://patdollard.com/tags/video/ See the slightly moderated version after they remove references to the Golden West Mortgage folks who are BIG leftwing donors. Word is NBC is scouring the net to get the old one off. TOO LATE! http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/c-span-bailout/727521/
