Radiohead Squashes Claims that 64% Paid Zero for Their New Album
constantskeptic
by constantskeptic  11-11-2007    2
Even if 36% paid something for the album, that is still over 1 million dollars pure profit for Radiohead in little over a month... pretty good plan if you ask me.

I think that is pretty amazing that they made more money on In Rainbows than all of their other Radiohead albums put together.

A Conservative Youth Culture Comming?
ouyangwulong
by ouyangwulong  8-29-2007    3
Although my politics match my parents, left for left, sometimes I dress more conservatively than they do. They listen to Rancid and Radiohead, and worry about me when I get fed up and talk trash about raw-vegan hippies. Nothing stays the same for long. I have always wondered whether the pendulum will swing back towards the conservative, or whether we will simply become increasingly liberal, liberated and libertine? Looking back, history seems to suggest the later, and each subsequent age has been more liberated than the last... Or am I wrong? Is there in fact a cycle at work here? If so, what place and time has been as socially liberal as we are today?

I hope this happens more often. With the internet, musicians no longer need to be controlled by record labels. There will still be plenty of people who still want a cd.

New Nine Inch Nails Album Released Online
finifinito
by finifinito  3-3-2008
Yet another brilliant move by a musician who knows his market. NIN's Trent Reznor has seeded The Pirate Bay and several other torrent sites with the first 9 tracks off his new 4 disc set entitled Ghosts, a 2 + hour collection of instrumental collaborations with his band and guests recorded over 10 days last fall and now available online. The first 9 song disc, Ghosts I have been seeded by Reznor himself on the popular torrent sites, and the entire 36 track compilatioin with a 40 page PDF of extras and other digital goodies is available directly from http://ghosts.nin.com for $5. $10 will get you the 2 CD set shipping April 8th and there are options for more goodies for the die hard fans. Yet another fine example of how artists can make it in the music business 2.0 world!

Radiohead Make 10 Million From 'In Rainbows'?
jtsmt
by jtsmt  10-18-2007    2
I am loving this idea of a free-market for musicians. Radiohead took a chance in letting fans pay whatever they saw fit for a download of their lastest album and they made bank doing it. Not to mention the fact that the fans get the gratification of knowing any money they spent goes directly to Radiohead. I think they've set the new standard for how music and musicians market themselves.

Radiohead's Nail In The Music Industry's Coffin
Forbes Technology
by Forbes Technology  10-1-2007
Radiohead is certainly putting the music industry on notice. It's a huge deal, one of the biggest bands in the world promoting and distributing an album without any help from a record label. If it works, it will prove that artists don't need labels --and if that's true, why allow them to take big chunks of your hard earned cash? Many other bands would no doubt follow suit, and that would be a crippling blow for the labels. -David M. Ewalt

Helmet Cams - Radiohead - Jigsaw
ChePanzee
by ChePanzee  12-5-2007    1
The next item on our agenda is the Helmet Cam video for Jigsaw Falling Into Place, the first single from the album. The Helmet Cam is something I made a couple of years ago to shoot some bits for my comedy night. It’s a mini surveillance camera mounted on the front of a bicycle helmet which makes the head of the wearer appear stationary while everything around them slides around nauseatingly. It’s a technique that’s been used a lot (Martin Scorcese and Peter Gabriel spring to mind), but it always occurred to me that the bike helmet version might be good for some kind of music video. When I found out we were doing the Radiohead webcast I got to work making 5 new ‘units’ for the band. A bike helmet is ideal for mounting the camera because you can strap it on tight enough for it not to wobble too much, but it has the downside of making you look like a bit of a prat so I was concerned that a band like Radiohead might be uncomfortable with that. If they were they didn’t show it and when Gar
