Racism is alive and well, albeit below the surface for the most part. But it is acting like the driving force. The hidden engine, if you will, of the hate and shouting emanating from the Right these days. The message from these KKK wannabees is clear. The President is not one of us. He is to be feared. He's not fit for the job. It has nothing to do with facts. The people protesting, for the most part, are angry because a black man is their leader and they just can't wrap their small minds around that. To bring Shange's vision to light would take an understanding of why this work of art is so deeply intertwined with black women's articulation of their own struggles under racist, patriarchal oppression — something that unfortunately, many still deny to this day. Black women's voices are often lost in discussions of race (because all the blacks are men) and discussions of gender (because all women are white) and Ntozake Shange was beyond brave to put down all of these ideas and present them for public consumption even in the face of heavy criticism from black men when the play was released.[

But it turns out that Obama is not so good at argument. Inspiration is one thing, persuasion another. He created the impression on the campaign trail that he was familiar with major issues and readily ticked off his positions on them. But he has not proved so good at legislating. One reason, perhaps, is that he has had little practice. He served as a legislator for a dozen years before becoming president, but was only rarely an active one. He spent one of his eight years as an Illinois state senator running unsuccessfully for Congress and two of them running successfully for U.S. senator. He spent two of his years in the U.S. Senate running for president. During all of his seven non-campaign years as a legislator, he was in the minority party. In other words, he's never done much work putting legislation together -- especially legislation that channels vast flows of money and affects the workings of parts of the economy that deeply affect people's lives.

Many things were said - but still no actual facts or figures. We still don't know what the "PLAN" looks like or will actually cost. We DO know that Obama has no problem speaking out of turn on topics he knows nothing about. Like the 'acted stupidly' comment, he misrepresented and maligned another group in America - Doctors. In truth, I don't mind him making ridiculous statements. They prove that he is ill-equipped to tackle these issues and uninformed about the facts. I'm tired of all the liberal cheer-leading... I want the truth. Is the health system in trouble? Yep. Is government run health care the answer? Let me introduce you to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. My answer is Nope.

POPSPrejudice in any form is wrong... If this article is correct...and I haven't found any other clips about this yet...I say good for us. We're working very hard to end racism (not always succeeding, but trying) and bigotry in any form - race, religion, creed, ethnicity - is wrong.
