POPSThe Lords of Entitlement They WILL subjugate us. They do not represent us; they have, indeed, become our "lords". We work for Washington. The American people have entered a new era of serfdom and slavery. The action in the Senate on this bill and the 2010 elections are our last hopes.

POPSLiz Cheney emerges, the left's feeding frenzy (and "tolerance"), verging on abject panic So Liz Cheney, just like Palin, unnerves and upsets the Left, not simply because she might run for something and win, and not only because she is one of the most effective conservative spokeswomen on national security. She threatens their claim to the moral high ground and their assertion that women voters belong to the Left. That’s reason enough to send them into fits of rage. And you can bet they’re only getting warmed up. So predictable. Saw this coming a mile away. It's almost boring watching the left piss their pants again over a woman who happens to be a conservative. Maybe we can expect David Letterman to crack a rape joke about Liz and her family, on behalf of the "tolerant" left. Sad. POPSRepublican Support Hits New Lows.
A rash of polls came out this weekend. Support for the Republican party is at an all-time low. Support for the President is on the rise, back to 56%. Despite the impression we may get from our corrosive and toxic media -- which manufactures conflict and sensationalism -- these polls show a growing disgust at the Republican Party. The Democrats, btw, other than the President, also are losing support. The often unspoken public opinion we never hear about it the majority of Americans don't like Congress at all. Yet, it's the system we were born into and we're stuck with it till we work out ways to improve it (which Congress will strongly resist). Hopefully we'll remain on track to drive the Republican Party into extinction. Voting against bad Democrats in their primary also would be a good idea, imo. Lots of folks have come to focus on this lately...defeat the so-called "Blue Dog Democrats," in their primaries. Just keep working to electing better leaders, one step at a

POPSCan Honduras Be Saved From Communism? in order to defend their friend Zelaya. Unfortunately, some authorities in the U.S. have fallen for that version, without really knowing what went on. Why is Obama siding with Chavez and Castro on this matter? I believe that, on the one hand, Obama is beginning to show his socialist tendencies, which were denounced during the American presidential campaign. On the other hand, Obama is letting himself be influenced by several presidents of Latin America, particularly Lula of Brazil, who is the real power behind the São Paulo Forum. Can Honduras be saved from Chavez? I think it can, but it requires the participation of all citizens, not only of Latin America, but of the U.S. as well. Honduras is facing tremendous pressures, and will not be able to bear them without the help of the world public opinion. Every article, every interview, in favor of the Honduran democracy helps to defend their institutions against Chavez’s assault.

POPSObama to Meet High-Powered Aides for Afghan Review
were the top ranking civilian officials expected for a bracing session on a war some supporters fear could swamp Obama's presidency. War commander General Stanley McChrystal, who warned in a leaked report that the conflict could be lost within a year without more troops, was also due to to take part, either in person or by video link-up, the White House said. Other top military brass included were General David Petraeus who heads US central command, Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Director of National Intelligence Admiral Dennis Blair. CIA chief Leon Panetta was also due to take part, along with Richard Holbrooke, the US envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as the US ambassadors to Islamabad and Kabul. Obama warned after meeting NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on Tuesday that the United States could not fight the battle in Afghanistan alone, in remarks apparently aimed at European partners.

POPSIllinois Public Opinion Turns Against President Obama's Health Care and Economic Policies
his individual policies have far less support. Recent non-tribune polling has shown that a majority of Illinoisans do not support the the current Democrat Health Care reform. The Tribune poll reflects this sentiment as only 42% approve of the President's handling of Health Care. On the contrary, 43% of Illinoisans disapprove of the President Obama's handling of health care reform. In addition, Illinois residents who have experienced an unemployment rate that has risen from 6.7% to to more than 10.5% in July are increasingly losing confidence in the President's economic policies. 49% of respondents indicated that the President Obama's economic policies have had a negative or no impact on job creation, as opposed to only 45% that believe his policies have had a positive impact. Tribune polling also indicated that the President's support among Independents in Illinois has all but disappeared. 58% of independents believe that his economic policies have had no impact or a

POPSG.Levy: "Has anyone in Israel asked why the Swedes hate us?"
The demonstrators in Stockholm waved banners against violence and racism. It may be okay to ask why they waved them only against us, as there are some other racist and violent places in the world, but it is not okay to question the right to do so in general. Was there really no violence in Gaza, and is there no racism in Israel? If we were Swedes, wouldn't we protest against the pointless killing and destruction wrought by Israel? But we needn't get too worked up over the fury of public opinion in Sweden; its right-wing government is much less agitated, like all the other European governments. One need only recall the surreal scene at the height of the brutal assault on Gaza, when the heads of the European Union came to Israel and dined with the prime minister in a show of unilateral support for the side wreaking the killing and destruction. They didn't give a thought to visiting Gaza, and uttered nary a word of criticism against Israel. That is official Europe. ... Ha'aretz

POPSPolls And Post-Mortems Howard Fineman tells us what went wrong, other than the predictable perfidy of Evil Republicans and their big business paymasters: Murky campaign promises ...The president is for “reform,” which says… nothing. Orszag’s fantasy Every president wants to reconcile frugality and generosity, and there is always an ambitious and clever aide willing to tell him it can be done. In Obama’s White House it is Budget Director Peter Orszag, who confidently told Obama that carefully administered universal health coverage would save the government money in the long run. ... Focusing on the have-nots ...the White House all along should have been focusing on the fears of the 85 percent who have insurance, not on the 15 percent who do not. Jonah Goldberg has his view - "if you actually wanted Obama-care to pass, casting a majority of Americans as being stooges of racist goons may not be the best way to go." He left out greedy and stupid.

POPSThe terrible bargain we have regretfully struck: confronting casual misogyny More: There are men who will read this post and think, huffily, dismissively, that a person of color could write a post very much like this one about white people, about me. That's absolutely right. So could a lesbian, a gay man, a bisexual, an asexual. So could a trans or intersex person (which hardly makes a comprehensive list). I'm okay with that. I don't feel hated. I feel mistrusted—and I understand it; I respect it. It means, for me, I must be vigilant, must make myself trustworthy. Every day. I hope those men will hear me when I say, again, I do not hate you. I mistrust you. You can tell yourselves that's a problem with me, some inherent flaw, some evidence that I am fucked up and broken and weird; you can choose to believe that the women in your lives are nothing like me. Or you can be vigilant, can make yourselves trustworthy. Every day. Just in case they're more like me than you think.

POPSSorry Snobs: Townhall Rage IS Real Democracy
Then, public opinion intervened. Obama is now on the wrong side of a genuine grass-roots revolt by people who feel ignored by everyone who is supposed to be representing them. Consider the AARP. It has all but endorsed a plan to slash several hundred billion dollars over 10 years from Medicare. It is providing cover for the creation of a new system that, if it ever succeeds in "bending the cost curve," will have to scrimp on expensive end-of-life care. The AARP is overwhelmingly favorable to a plan opposed by the elderly more than any other age group. Who is the more authentic voice of seniors -- the AARP playing along with its Democratic allies, or the elderly at town-hall meetings wondering what the Medicare cuts will mean for them? The inside-Washington players are easily co-opted and cowed. The American Medical Association came out in opposition to a public option in June, and then -- after a stern talking-to by Washington's political barons -- immediately backtracked.
