POPSA Teacher On The Front Line For me there is no conflict between science and religion; I don't need scientific proof of the character of God. Perhaps the people who are arguing about all of this need to keep their minds occupied from avoiding justice, poverty, and war.

POPSScience Battles Ignorance By ignorance I mean literally ignoring reality and substituting myth and superstition. The solution is simple. If the students insist on replacing reality with dogma on science tests let them be graded accordingly.

POPSThe politically incorrect truth Liberty for the good of mankind establishes the evidence of successful self-government in light of the abject failures and evils of the collective enterprises of China, Cuba, Fascist Germany, Japan, and Italy, Communist Soviet Union, as well as the Islamo-fascist sharia states of Afghanistan under the Taliban, Iraq under Saddam, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and the designs of the Islamists and fascist greens.

POPSIslam and Secularism Volkhard Krech, professor for religious studies , has come to the conclusion that some religious traditions, such as Judaism and Protestantism, represent "secularization factors." Other faiths, such as Islam and evangelical churches have a tendency to combine a strong sense of both national and religious identity, mixing politics with religion. The Berlin Islamic scholar Gudrun Krämer made clear that a "massive rejection" of secularism prevails in most Muslim countries. In Islamic discourse, secularization is regarded as a "hostile takeover" of Muslim society. Instead of the notion of the separation of religion and state, the idea of "empowerment" is stressed. Islam calls for believers to actively participate in the power structures of the state. As a mixture of nationalism and Islamism, the so-called "national Jihad" is pushing its way into the political arena and has given birth to the notion of the "Islamic welfare state."

POPSAt the heart of Reformed Theology - RC Sproul "We need a style and a variety of Christianity that is not a religion, but is a life and a worldview, where at the heart and foundational structure of it is a sound and deep biblical concept of the character of God."

POPSGrowth of "Protestantism" in Brazil In it's shift from ritualistic Catholicism to shallow Pentecostalism, Brazil is jumping from the spiritual frying pan into the spiritual fire. People from the favelas flock to the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God--but no transformation is taking place in the favelas. Indeed, the favelas are getting worse, which the Universal Church gets richer.

POPSSurge of religious belief in China On the resurgence of religion in modern-day China. Religious practice (of the five "authorized" faiths: Buddhism, Taoism, Catholicism, Protestantism and Islam) is increasingly public, though still subject to draconian restrictions and limitations.

POPSWhat's the diff. between Sunni and Shia? Before the Iraq War, I didn't actually know there was any difference. I just naively thought all Muslims were the same. But of course, they have variations between them, even though they do believe in the same god, Allah. Just as the Catholics, Protestants, Jews and so on, believe in their same god, God.

POPSRwanda's Resurrection of Faith 2004 article in the Christian Science Monitor about how Rwandans are turning away from Catholicism and traditional Protestantism due to the local churches' complicity in the genocide and embracing Islam and less established Christian denominations.

POPSThe "get-rich gospel" around 1900 This is the famous "Acres of Diamonds" sermon preached by Russell Conwell around the turn of the 20th century. Shows that the "prosperity gospel" wing of American evangelical Protestantism didn't start with Joel Osteen and Creflo Dollar.

POPS"God's Country?" - Walter Russell Mead Summary: Religion has always been a major force in U.S. politics, but the recent surge in the number and the power of evangelicals is recasting the country's political scene -- with dramatic implications for foreign policy. This should not be cause for panic: evangelicals are passionately devoted to justice and improving the world, and eager to reach out across sectarian lines. From Foreign Affairs , September/October 2006.
