POPSBritish Territory Used for US Torture Cont... "TIME discussed the allegation with Richard Clarke, who served as a Special Advisor to President George W. Bush on the National Security Council dealing with counter-terrorism until 2003 but is not the source for this story. "In my presence, in the White House, the possibility of using Diego Garcia for detaining high value targets was discussed," says Clarke. Clarke did not witness a final resolution of the issue, but adds, "Given everything that we know about the Administration's approach to the law on these matters, I find the report that the U.S. did use the island for detention or interrogation entirely credible."

POPSMost Popular Tattoo Designs Google has also had a massive impact in (re)introducing tribal cultures and ancient forms of tattoo art and practices such as Japanese tebori, Maori ta moko and Polynesian ta tau to an increasing wired and emerging global consciousness. As a result there has been unprecedented interest in ancient forms of tattoo art. A huge number of people seem to be looking for tattoos that are symbolic or have a very personal meaning to them.

POPSSuicidal inmates in UK prisons get game privileges Not only that, but inmates will no longer be allowed to play 18-rated (similar to the M-rating here in the States) games after September of this year. Finally, the Prison Service's announcement revealed that only certain inmates will be actually allowed to play games: "Only inmates on the highest level of Incentives and Earned Privileges (IEP) and those at risk of suicide will be allowed to play computer games," i hope that the games are rehabilitating too

POPSCorrie Ten Boom While in Ravensbruck Concentration Camp, the barracks were infested with lice. Corrie and her sister praised God for the lice, because the guards refused to enter their barracks for fear of getting infected. Can you imagine? That is truly seeing the silver lining.

POPSTexans Love Bush and Babies In a tiny Texas community, children as young as 5 were fed powerful painkillers they knew as "silly pills" and forced to perform sex shows for a crowd of adults.

POPSIraq Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki demands US withdrawal timetable Mahmoud Othman, a Kurdish MP, said that the issue of immunity for US forces had become a particularly sensitive subject for Iraqis. “We have suffered so much from immunity. Immunity equals committing crimes. In the name of immunity they have killed people, they have their own prisons, they captured Iraqis. We can’t continue like this,” he said.

POPSMoral Depravity in the Highest Places
After 7 1/2 years of George W. Bush, much of the media and political establishment — which have never shown much interest in holding Bush to account — now appear anxious to simply move on. They seem determined to leave unexamined the full cruelty and mendacity of the Bush administration, with its unlawful wars and blatant violations of the Geneva Conventions. Moving on is a great idea - once there’s been some accountability, with a full public recognition of wrongdoing, and a commitment to bring about change. Otherwise, nothing will have been learned. The comments of Yoo, who authored top-level internal memos justifying torture and virtually unlimited presidential power, suggest a moral depravity in very high places. That depravity led to the horrific abuses at Abu Ghraib and at other U.S. prisons in Iraq, Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay and “black sites” around the world. The dean of the Massachusetts School of Law, Lawrence Velvel, argues that Bush and top administration offi

POPSCheap Labor By Jim Small Senator, "...Harper also said the state should cut the amount it spends on overtime for corrections officers in the state prisons. In the current budget, the Department of Corrections was allotted more than $24 million for overtime pay due to a shortage of officers. To achieve savings in the prisons without diminishing public safety, Harper proposed deploying the National Guard to state prisons and having soldiers replace corrections officers. The soldiers, he said, don't earn overtime pay. He said they could work 72 hours a week as prison guards - 12-hour shifts, seven days a week - and save the state millions of dollars. I find it unbelievable that people like Senator Harper only see the military as their labor pool!!!

POPStorture of Palestinians in Israeli prisons is the rule, not the exception Shame? Israeli Jews & and their supporters with an ounce of shame? They don't even know the definition of the word. The contradictions are obvious. These are the people stuffing sympathy down our throats around the clock about the brutal Nazis. These creatures are EXACTLY the same and even worse. My question is why should anyone feel sympathy for the profiteering alleged victims who, in the present hour, systematically perform the same torture rituals, justifying such barbaric acts with the same lame excuses?

POPSHalf America would be on Death Row.
If it were up to the R party, half of Amer. would be on death row. I exaggerate but you have to ask...what’s wrong with these people? They can't see society for the people. Sick acts do occur that we’d like to cure. But with brains, one size doesn’t fit all. Many take a beating before maturity, so we wind up with depraved sins by sickos. If laws put all sickos to death there would have to be many death rows. Killing doesn’t stop such acts and sets an example that murder is an answer. Life without parole is cost effective. It takes alota $$ before a slaying occurs, life sentences are cheaper. (to those who tout PRISONS COST US TAXPAYERS MUCH MOOLAH, KILL THE BUMS!) Capital punishment is a fact in this brutal society and the judges must decide what it's slated for. It should only be for homicide. If it starts to pertain to other crimes, we slide backwards and kids will hang for stealing apples. Their legs must be weighted cause small bodies are too light to choke a life away. :-(

POPSThe UK's Cushy Prisons Interesting article. The challenging of cartoon stereotypes of prisons as hotels, criminals as monsters and the right function of prison being to punish and degrade as much as possible: the slow, bit by bit intervention of the rehabilitation element of a civilized judiciary.

POPSIrishman Angry at the Bush Junket Disruption! Willie has 'balls'. Few would publicly crisis the disruptive Bush. Doesn't he know that the grinning George is responsible for the torture of more humans than all Americans to date? Does he think that being Irish makes him immune to waterboarding. Surely as a aircraft man he knows of 'extraordinary rendition' where you are on permanent tour of the best torture prisons on earth. Even Shannon seems to be on the CIA itinerary according to Amnesty. And your personal politics or none is no disbarment. From Israel, to Egypt, to Iran, to Russia, to Africa, to Cuba, to Abu Ghraib, to Bagram, all are catered for. Fear of flying is sorted with drugs and huds, in best gangster fashion. There are no numbers yet on 'lost in flight' customers, but getting there. After all, this was a favourite method of disposal for the US trained South American juntas. "Lost at sea" is permanent and 'clean'.
