POPSStudy Of Countries I do not claim that sites such as this are the be all and end all of research regarding any given country. But still they are fairly comprehensive. If any given country or nation intrigues you then I recommend further research. If this site creates a even greater thirst for knowledge then I will have done something useful.

POPSFlags of the world, given new meanings Very clever idea... Using UN statistics, an artist has attached "legends" to some of the world's flags such that the area filled by each color represents some statistic about that country. If you look at it, it'll make sense.

POPSThe Economist Ranks USA 96 out of 121 for Peace Hmmm... Andrew Williamson, a director of research for the Economist is quoted here as saying: "We are just mechanics and technicians behind the index. We are not making judgments about foreign policy." POPSworld's biggest solar farm Portugal is leading the European clean-tech revolution, According to Pinho, “We have to reduce our dependence on oil and gas. What seemed extravagant in 2004 when we decided to go for renewables now seems to have been a very good decision.” Pinho says Portugal is not interested in nuclear power. "When you have a program like this there is no need for nuclear power. Wind and water are our nuclear power. My advice to countries like the UK is to move as fast as they can to renewables. With climate change and the increase in oil prices, renewables will become more and more important.”

POPSU.S. waits for others to save us from oil dependence As long as this remains the case i will remain skeptical that the U.S. government truly wants to end our dependence on oil. That reality basically means that the needs of lobbyists (Big Oil) are considerably more important than the needs of the people. That depresses me a lot!

POPSJune's Young Crescent Moon - Astronomy Picture of the Day The revolution of the Moon around the Earth makes the Moon appear as if it is changing shape in the sky. This is caused by the different angles from which we see the bright part of the Moon's surface. These are called "phases" of the Moon. Of course, the Moon doesn't generate any light itself; it just reflects the light of the Sun. The Moon passes through four major shapes during a cycle that repeats itself every 29.5 days. The phases always follow one another in the same orde
