Palin, Cloward, Piven and Kafka
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 7:11 PM    1
Some of the complaints her legal team responded to were simply absurd. Complaint alleging interference in a job hiring was filed under the name of Edna Birch, a busybody character on the British soap opera Emmerdale. Palin's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, said no one by that name could be found living in Alaska and the filer refused to use a real name, so the complaint was dismissed Feb. 20. Forget about the fairness or irrationality of this complaint. The mere fact that she had to engage an attorney to respond to it means anyone with a computer, printer and a few stamps can force a politician to incur thousands of dollars in legal fees. And while these sort of Kafkaesque tribunals have normally been reserved for prominent Americans, we might all get to participate in the future.

Is God Trying To Talk To Someone In America?
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  6-30-2009    6
What's worse, many pastors avoid talking to their congregations about repentance and self sacrifice. So, like the vampire Lasat, they drain them of true spiritual life, while seducing them with voter-pamphlet sermons and feel-good theology. The organized church is in big trouble today--the message of repentance is a flat subject among churchgoers. People want to pull a voting lever, offer vocal support for whatever politician pays lip service to a few hot-button social issues, and shout hallelujah as they drive off in their Lincoln. Satan smiles and waves as they go by. What America needs is a repentant, spiritual church, not the political arm of a dominionist cult. Want to argue that point? Do it with the God who says, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Israel: Rise of the Right

Today, after years spent getting to know Kahane's followers, I am sure that they will remain loyal to their rabbi's ideology and will fight against a two-state solution, as they have in the past with other Israeli governments. But this time they will be fighting from within the seat of power.

Four Reasons Mainstream Media is Worthless
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  6-25-2009
Censorship is the biggest threat to any media tasked with ensuring transparency from our government. The simple act of self-censorship is the act of selling itself out to its corporate masters. Any journalist who takes it upon themselves to ‘protect’ the compromised politician or the renegade police officer does not deserve to wear the title journalist. Any news media corporation that suppresses stories to protect personal relationships or refuses to criticize any government entity for fear of losing sponsors or favored standing should be banned from the industry. As anyone can plainly see I hold the journalistic profession to the very highest of ethical standards because they all speak for us. We, the citizens of any country, cannot appear in the press conferences held by public officials to ask for the truth, we depend on journalists to keep us informed, fully informed. We depend on them to take us where ever the facts lead.

Ahmadinejad or Mousavi? by Daniel Pipes
merrie
by merrie  6-20-2009    1
In the words of Abbas Milani, my colleague at the Hoover Institution, "If Ahmadinejad survives, it will be on the back of a Tiananmen-style crackdown. If Mousavi prevails, it will be on a wave of reformist sentiment." While that reformist sentiment may not shake the regime and is unlikely to stop the nuclear weapons program, it does hold out hope for substantial change. Accordingly, I no longer want Ahmadinejad to serve as president for a second term but prefer Mousavi in that position. Better yet, of course, would be for neither of them to hold power but for the entire fetid Islamic Republic of Iran to collapse. While confident that process is underway. I have no idea if it is weeks or decades ahead. Whatever it requires, Mousavi as president hastens the process. MORE DOMA / DADT BLOWBACK: Gay figures pull out of Biden fundraiser
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  6-18-2009
R.S. McCain, in feeling the pain of angry gay Democrats as they realize that President Obama is not really the man riding the pink unicorn. He just plays one during campaign season. He suggests they abandon their party and join the GOP: While Republicans won’t offer the sweeping promises Democrats regularly make to gay people, well, at least they won’t break them. But, in the end, it all comes down to that pink unicorn, that image of Barack Obama, presidential candidate, new kind of postpartisan politician with his airy rhetoric and sweeping promises to all and sundry. Republicans just don’t ride pink unicorns, at least not on the campaign trail.

Dear David Letterman....
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  6-14-2009    6
“At the end of the day, David Letterman’s show is David Letterman’s show, but as Jay Leno recently pointed out, by being overtly political either way, you alienate half of the country. As someone who has always been a fan of David Letterman, I have become more and more disappointed and yes, dare I say disgusted about his attitude toward Sarah Palin and her daughters. Is it too much to ask to leave a 14-year-old girl out of a late-night joke? Apparently in today’s media, yes it is, especially when it is the daughter of a Republican politician.” *** “Firing Mr. Letterman would send a clear message that CBS will not tolerate any of its employees — even an established media figure like Mr. Letterman — making demeaning and degrading comments about women.”

Rev. Jeremiah Wright Says "Jews" Are Keeping Him From Obama

Wright also said Obama should have sent a U.S. delegation to the World Conference on Racism held recently in Geneva, Switzerland, but that the president did not do so for fear of offending Jews and Israel. "Ethnic cleansing is going on in Gaza. Ethnic cleansing (by) the Zionist is a sin and a crime against humanity, and they don't want Barack talking like that because that's anti-Israel," Wright said.

Ronnie Biggs the politician
notareargunner
by notareargunner  6-7-2009    1
Notorious Great Train Robber, Ronnie Biggs, has announced that he is to return the proceeds gained from the 1963 multi-million pound train heist in an attempt to restore public confidence in the once honourable criminal classes. Biggs, currently serving a sentence in Norwich prison after returning to the UK in 2001, has described the manner by which he came into the money as ‘an honest mistake’, and has called for a change in the rules which are making morally-upright criminals look like money-grabbing cheats. ‘I didn’t realise I was doing anything wrong,’ said the ailing 79-year-old today in a prepared statement. ‘The train stopped and everyone just jumped on the wagon, so I assumed it was totally on the level. But I tell you, as soon as I checked the law some 36 years later and found that I may have been in the wrong, I couldn’t have been more embarrassed. I turned myself in straight away. I just hope that by giving the money back now it’s not too late to change the public’s opinion

Round up every Tamil protester, provide transportation and send them back to "help out." Sort out your own mess. Don't blame the country you chose to live in because that country will not devote massive resources to your cause. Go back home and speak out there against the atrocities that you see happening and help fight it from there. Sacrifice yourself, your sons, your daughters and your wealth, as little or as much as that might be. Put your money where your mouth is not our money and our families where your mouth is!! Our ancestors stood up to carve out a way of living that we enjoy today. They did not go to your country, accept your hospitality then disrupt your way of life & demand you fix the injustices that they themselves would not address. Accept responsibility for allowing your country to fall into the chaotic state it is in today!! Don't shirk your own part and think we will arbitrarily shoulder your social debts. I will vote for any politician/political party wi
