POPSThe last, best day for newspapers I used to work at the Post and it was exciting to walk by the office yesterday and see a line of people clamoring for the paper. But I think it's the last, best day for the printed paper. I wonder if the Post will ever sell so many copies again? People like souvenirs of history, but how often does history happen? Before deadline? And able to get on the front page of the paper? It's just not that often. When it happens again in 10, 15, 20 years, will the lines be as long? I'm optimistic about the future of journalism. But I think the physical printed project, though probably not destined to go away completely, is still set to decline in numbers for very many years.

POPSNational Day of Listening This holiday season, ask the people around you about their lives—it could be your grandmother, a teacher, or someone from the neighborhood. By listening to their stories, you will be telling them that they matter and they won’t ever be forgotten. It may be the most meaningful time you spend this year.

POPSWikis as a Marketing Tool First Blogs, then podcasting, now Wikis. That's the pattern, internet users embrace it, then the corporate machine adopts it. And lastly, Academia dips in its collective toe. Maybe we should dive in first on the next one?

POPSTwitter, the next big thing? Bigger is gettting the current big thing right.
David Berlind in his recent post to his Berlind's Testbed blog, recalls how he was drug into the last two computing revolutions by his colleage, Dan Farber. He then talks about how Twitter, or stuff like Twitter, is the next big thing. In the paragraph before that he talks about the multi-medium publishing story (see excerpt below). I believe we are getting closer to delivering on that story. But there is much that needs to be done before it is complete. Especially in the area of monetizing all this stuff. We have to figure out how to count it, we have to understand the connection between the content and the user, and we have to do a great job of understanding how to deliver relevance. Said another way, the publishing is the stupid-easy part. What is next is not more short messages... that will be helpful. What is next is helping users get more out of the content and helping them get more out of products closely relevant to the content. Fair enough, David is talking about th

POPSHelp us wish Derek K. Miller a Happy Birthday Derek has recently been diagnosed with a very lethal cancer. I've been a fan of his music for a while and used it in quite a few podcasts - Derek's an amazing example of someone who puts good work out there for others to use just for the joy of doing it. The podcasting community is rallying to send him some good wishes today.
