POPSConsumer Reports finds BPA in most canned foods More: …our findings are notable because they indicate the extent of potential exposure: Consumers eating just one serving of the canned vegetable soup we tested would get about double what the FDA now considers typical average dietary daily exposure… A 165-pound adult eating one serving of canned green beans from our sample, which averaged 123.5 ppb, could ingest about 0.2 micrograms of BPA per kilogram of body weight per day, about 80 times higher than our experts' recommended daily upper limit. And children eating multiple servings per day of canned foods with BPA levels comparable to the ones we found in some tested products could get a dose of BPA approaching levels that have caused adverse effects in several animal studies… Drinking three servings per day of canned apple juice with BPA levels comparable to the levels found in our samples could result in a dose of BPA that is more than our experts' daily upper limit.

POPSDelta Airzound Bike Horn More, from the comments: Easily the most useful gadget I've ever bought for my bike. Commuting to and from school in NYC, it sees daily use, especially since a good number of pedestrians cross against the light, or in the middle of the street without looking for whats coming first, and a lot of drivers have a bad habit of checking their mirrors after they've already started turning. Also extremely effective at clearing pigeons on the road, which aren't always afraid of people. The only problem that I've had with it is that in dusty conditions, dirt can find its way inside and prevent the diaphragm from vibrating properly, which is most likely the problem that Narwhal was having. But this is why the cover over the diaphragm can be unscrewed and the dirt cleaned out. I usually have to do that after about a month of normal use.

POPSJust a couple of words that speack on their own I've been responsible for hiring and overseeing the development of people in my corporate days and must confess that I've never seen any of these comments, but apparently, they have been taken from actual employee appraisals. Enjoy!

POPSPopcorn balls From the comments, I added one tsp. salt and 2 tsps. vanilla after the sugar mix came to a boil. Be careful because adding the vanilla will cause the sugar mixture to boil up and sputter. Also, I reduced the powdered sugar to 2 cups. It is plenty sweet. Also, keep the popcorn warm while making the sauce in a 200 degree F oven. I got 24 balls out of this and they taste FANTASTIC. Word from the comments is that the marshmallow keeps these from becoming rock hard like other popcorn balls. And, bonus, you do not need a candy thermometer. I will make again very soon. Easy and tasty.

POPSwilling to bear the cost of being bad FTA: As soon as you incentivise good behaviour by charging bad behaviour, you are legitimising bad behaviour. When it’s ok to do the wrong thing as long as you pay the price, how can doing the right thing be priceless?

POPSFood of the Week: Apples Tips for preparing apples: Rinse apples under clear running water like you would any fruit. If organic, don't peel unless the recipe you have chosen requires peeled apples. To prevent browning when slicing apples for a recipe, simply put the slices in a bowl of cold water to which a spoonful of lemon juice has been added. For use in future recipes, sliced apples freeze well in plastic bags or containers.

POPSScientists create solar cells with a twist. I suppose it won't be hard to have the power to at least power a Laptop. Perhaps a Solar powered tent for camping. We are finding new ways to transform energy into media we can use, and it, with the open information on the web is only bound to improve dramatically

POPSAutumn is Apple Time Early varieties include the classic Red Delicious, which are striped to solid and red, and have a sweet taste; and the Jonagold, a cross between a Jonathan and a Golden Delicious, and are bright red and can be sweet or slightly tart. Later varieties include Rome, Fuji, Granny Smith, and Jonathan. Romes are a deep red and are slightly sweet. Fuji’s range in color from gold to red and often have red striping, and are great for snacking. Granny Smith apples are green, tart apples that are perfect for baking. Jonathans have light red stripes over deep red or yellow and are slightly tart. For a quick and easy simmered fall punch, combine 2 cups apple juice, 1/2 cup orange juice, 1/4 tsp. cinnamon, and 2 or 3 cloves. Simmer on the stove for 20 to 30 minutes. Remove cloves before serving. ---------------------------
