POPSOne Company's Toxic Agenda or Our Poisonous Way of Life? Marie-Monique Robin's "The World According
Both text and film are extraordinary models of investigative reporting, each comprising chilling and compelling indictments of a company with a long history of producing varieties of poison. I have no doubt that had a human individual, rather than a multinational corporation, been responsible for the death, suffering and destruction Marie-Monique Robin documents, the International Criminal Court and other jurisdictions around the world would be clamoring for that person's head. Yet, Monsanto continues to operate so much more freely than the disguised Radovan Karadzic. Only last week The Independent reported that Gordon Brown and other European leaders are secretly planning to promote GMO food - 90 percent of which is produced by Monsanto - over the objections of their own populations. Both Ms. Robin's film and her book use a montage of Monsanto advertising, promotional films, claims and pledges to illustrate the fantasy chemical, then biotech/life sciences company it purports t

POPSTruth Behind the statistics Horrific isn't it? UK laboratories last year forcibly subjected more than 3 million individual animals – all with feelings and fears – to some of the most needless and often gruesome experiments imaginable. The pain and suffering endured by many of these dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and other animals is even referred to by the vivisectors themselves as "severe". Many animals are cut open without anaesthetics. Their skin and eyes are burned with chemicals, and ultimately they are poisoned, gassed, electrocuted or otherwise killed for the sake of "science".

POPSArtificial eye implant sits mostly outside the eye. The coil around the iris receives wireless power and image data from a microcontroller that can be carried on a belt. The coil transmits data to electronics inside a waterproof titanium case. The electronics controls an electrode array (not visible) connected to nerves in the back of the retina. This device would be more bio-compatible than others, because it sits mostly outside the eye and therefore carries a reduced risk of inflammation and of a decline in performance with time. So far it has only been tested in pigs but human trials are planned for 2010.

POPSWashington Diary: Troubled Times What can they really say that reassures voters? Detailed policy points are bound to fall on deaf ears. Republican John McCain has proposed setting up a commission - like the one established to look into the 9/11 attacks - to determine who is to blame for the current mess. Democrat Barack Obama's campaign has reminded everyone that Mr McCain recently said the economy was fundamentally strong. Clearly these are words he now regrets. As far as anyone can benefit from Meltdown Monday, Mr Obama is getting a small boost. According to one poll, 48% of Americans believe he is better placed to deal with the economy, compared with 45% who prefer Mr McCain. But do not hold your breath: neither candidate is seen as an economic wizard. For her part, Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been judicious enough not to claim to have knowledge of the banking sector the way she said she had "knowledge" of Russia - based on eye-contact and proximity.

POPSAs Wall St. Melts Down, McCain Says 'The Fundamentals of Our Economy are Strong' Is McCain really this tone deaf on the issue of the economy? This is really the last thing he needs -- a debate on the issues. He's desperately been trying to avoid that by running a campaign of PC victimhood and personal attacks. I guess we now see why that is. The report tells us: Obama just took his expected whack at McCain during a rally in Grand Junction, Colo. Rhetorically, he asked his audience why "today, of all days" McCain would make his comment about the economy's fundamentals. "Sen. McCain, what economy are you talking about?" he said. I wonder how Baghdad Johnny's going to try to weasel out of this debate? Time to talk issues, John. You've avoided it for too long.

POPSMore Big Pharma, Bad Science - Non-smoking Drug Now, which is worse in your opinion... Smoking or Suicide? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out. Most would answer ...I THINK I WOULD RATHER SMOKE THAN FOR SURE KILL MYSELF BY TAKING A DRUG TO NOT SMOKE. The saddest part of this is that they (BIG PHARMA) are using our veterans as Guinea pigs in their trial and error tests. Just so they can put on the market more deadly drugs and coerce, we the public to buy into their schemes that make them rich!
