If this were merely a failure to cite Kinnock, why was Labor Leader Neil Kinnock talking about the Biden family and the coal mines of Pennsylvania? Biden not only lifted -- as The New York Times reported -- Kinnock's "phrases, gestures and lyrical Welsh syntax intact," but also his entire life story.

POPSMore Fun Than Watching "Get Smart" In a speech of just over 16 minutes, Biden used, by my count, the phrase "ladies and gentlemen" 18 times. (Apparently "ladies and gentlemen" is to Biden what "my friends" is to Senator McCain). Biden's speech was filled with the predictable hackneyed phrases. We were told the American Dream is both "slipping away" and dropping off a cliff. And "the future keeps receding further and further and further away as your reach for your dreams." Biden feels things with "ever fiber of my being." Barack Obama possesses "steel in his spine." And so forth. Biden also made silly claims, such as this being the "last chance to reclaim the America we love, to restore America's soul." But for the uninitiated, it is something to enjoy. As my 10-year-old son put it to me after hearing Biden's speech, "This is going to be like Get Smart." Indeed. We'll be watching Biden closely — and loving it.

POPSReactivating Forgotten Languages: How to Catch Up Vis-Ed (www.vis-ed.com) compiles its sets of flashcards from word frequency lists and includes sample phrases for usage. I begin flashcards after three or four days in-country. The sooner you decide to reactivate languages when needed, instead of maintaining them for an unspecified time in the future, the more leisure time you will have and the less diluted your language abilities will be when you need them. Don't fear losing languages if you've attained real fluency. They're just in temporary storage with the covers pulled over them.

It is taboo to label US soldiers as terrorist, but that is exactly what they are trained to do - terrorism. High tech at that. If any army, for ANY reason did these things to Americans, we know what they would be called and we know what our LEGITIMATE response would be: resist, resist, resist.
