POPSWas the photoshopped Ralph Lauren model fired for being overweight?
Most of us know that a tall, young woman who weighs 120 pounds is not overweight. But Hamilton claims Ralph Lauren was dissatisfied with her body, and therefore fired her six months ago. However, the company continued to use her image, whittling down her arms, waist, thighs, and possibly several other body parts in the above ad. If they were so unhappy with how she looked, why not get another model for the campaign? Why use the photos and alter and distort them? Today, Ralph Lauren himself is distancing himself from the ad, claiming, "The image in question was mistakenly released and used in a department store in Japan and was not the approved image which ran in the U.S." So we're confused. They say the photoshopping was an error, that Hamilton is "beautiful and healthy," yet they allegedly fired her for her size? With all these apologies and statements it sounds like the brand still has yet to accept responsibility for their actions.

POPSPhotog Says She Purposely Made Glenn Beck Look Bad On Time Cover Bad for Time, bad for the media, and bad for legitimate photographers. I can't believe they didn't know that the photographer they were hiring had no journalistic ethics. Or maybe they did and they just don't care since it fits right in with the story they are trying to portray.

POPSBush As The Joker Obama’s predecessor endured 8 Years of Assassination Fascination. Actually, the “Assassinate Bush Chic” began even before the 2000 election, when Craig Kilborn flashed “snipers wanted” under a picture of Bush. So-called “newsmen” like Keith Olbermann repeatedly called the president “a fascist” and “a terrorist.” And Obama supporters can’t handle The Joker and the word “Socialism”? Politics is ugly, and it is often over-the-top but that’s not new. Photoshop happens; it’s a free country. I myself have been photoshopped next to a dancing condom, a commentary on my annoying habit of being a Catholic. Bob Owens amuses himself thusly: Frankly, I don’t get it. One embraces terrorists and madmen, is dedicated to anarchy and the destruction of capitalist society, and sends the population fleeing in horror from his creations. The other is a fictional character played by the late Heath Ledger. http://michellemalkin.com/2009/08/04/how-quickly-they-forget/

POPS10 News photos that took retouching too far Why we can never fully trust what main stream media shows us. “People shouldn't expect the mass media to do investigative stories. That job belongs to the 'fringe' media.” – Ted Koppel “The press is the hired agent of a moneyed system, and set up for no other purpose than to tell lies where their interests are involved.” I don’t know who the author of this quote is but it speaks an undisputable truth. Any Photoshopping that alters the meaning of the original photo should be labeled as a "news illustration" in the caption so the viewer understands the photo has been altered.
