POPSIt's a wonderful life working for the government The policy aim, Democrats say, was to maintain public services and aid. The political aim, although Democrats don't say so, was to maintain public-sector jobs -- and the flow of union dues to the public employees unions that represent almost 40 percent of public-sector workers. Those unions in turn have contributed generously to Democrats. Services Employee International Union head Andy Stern, the most frequent nongovernment visitor to the Obama White House, has boasted that his union steered $60 million to Democrats in the 2008 cycle. The total union contribution to Democrats has been estimated at $400 million.

POPSCalling All Stool-Pigeons "These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can't keep track of all of them here at the White House, we're asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov." Got that? Team Obama wants you to be a snitch; they want you to report even casual conversation with those who oppose ObamaCare directly to the White House itself. Red State blogger Erick Erickson says that could be illegal. "According to 5 U.S.C. 552a, United States agencies, including the Executive Office of the President, shall 'maintain no record describing how any individual exercises rights guaranteed by the First Amendment unless expressly authorized by statute or by the individual about whom the record is maintained or unless pertinent to and within the scope of an authorized law enforcement activity.'"

POPSGOP Senator: White House Encroaching on First Amendment
I suspect that you would have been leading the charge in condemning such a program -- and I would have been at your side denouncing such heavy-handed government action.” Yesterday, White House director of new media Macon Phillips wrote a blog posting urging readers to flag questionable claims about health care proposals. “There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.” Cornyn specifically asks whether those who quote the president’s past statements -- such as his 2003 statement that he was a “proponent” of single-payer care -- qualifies as . . .

POPS Bernie Madoff: What His Secretary Saw a few thousand. You get comfortable with that, and before you know it, it snowballs into something big.” Bernie’s personality • The way Madoff handled stress was “by saying something nasty: You look terrible. You’re gaining weight. You’re stupid. I never took anything he said to me personally, because I knew it wasn’t about me, it was about him.” • Madoff’s behavior changed drastically in the weeks before his arrest. “He seems to be in a coma,” Squillari told people who walked by his office and saw him staring off into space. He began taking his blood-pressure every 15 minutes, refused to look at his mail, and was constantly meeting with the heads of his feeder funds and Frank DiPascali, “the go-to guy for the investment-advisory business” (the vehicle for Madoff’s Ponzi scheme).

POPS Al Gore Lies To Congress (Part 2) Goldman Who? In mid-2008 — six months after Gore joined the venture capital firm of Kleiner Perkins as a partner — Kleiner Perkins joined Goldman Sachs in financing a company called Terralliance — an oil exploration firm! As Fortune reports, Kleiner’s dirtying its hands in the oil patch was something of a head-scratcher. Back then the firm had recently hired Al Gore as a partner. But money is money, oil was trading for $140 a barrel, and Terralliance was said to have developed software that reduced the risk of drilling dry holes. It looked as if Terralliance could be a moneymaker for Kleiner, which had sunk a total of $65 million into the venture, an extraordinary sum for a VC firm — possibly its biggest single investment ever. But less than one year later, Terralliance has faired poorly, burning through hundreds of millions of dollars, according to Fortune.

POPSGore Lies To Congress About Personal Finances Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore left the White House seven years ago with less than $2 million in assets, including a Virginia home and the family farm in Tennessee. Now he’s making enough to put $35 million in hedge funds and other private partnerships. Gore invested the money with Capricorn Investment Group LLC, a Palo Alto, California, firm that selects the private funds for clients and invests in makers of environmentally friendly products, according to a Feb. 1 securities filing. Capricorn was founded by billionaire Jeffrey Skoll, former president of EBay Inc. and an executive producer of Gore’s Oscar-winning documentary film on global warming. http://greenhellblog.wordpress.com/2009/04/24/gore-lies-to-congress-about-personal-finances/

POPSIf China Stops Lending Us Money, Look Out But in Beijing on Friday, Premier Wen Jiabao told reporters that he was worried about the U.S. becoming something of a, well, deadbeat. "We have made a huge amount of loans to the United States. Of course we are concerned about the safety of our assets. To be honest, I'm a little bit worried," Wen said. "I would like to call on the United States to honor its words, stay a credible nation and ensure the safety of Chinese assets."

POPSPressure On Charles Rangel To Step Down "Not Even On The Table" The congressman and his aides have taken pains to be transparent as they discover more and more errors on his tax and financial disclosure forms. Mr. Rangel will hire a leading forensic accountant to investigate his finances for the last 20 years and issue a report to the House ethics committee, Mr. Davis said, emphasizing that neither Mr. Rangel nor his representatives will see the report before it is delivered.

POPS$4 per Gallon Gas Pinching Low Income Families Worst This is forcing major shifts in spending and life changes as the cost of everything goes up respective to fuel costs, not just at the pump. This is pinching Americans, especially at lower income levels, while the well off remain careless and distracted. In turn this will increase government welfare spending, and force some out of their cars completely. All this to due dollar devaluation, due to heavy debt spending by government, printing money, to finance unjust and needless war-mongering abroad against countries that pose no threat to the U.S.. The poor suffer the most, as usual, who have the least to do with war policy, merely attempting to survive.

POPS “Global Warming Censored” The conference is being run by the Heartland Institute. The Business & Media Institute is one of several co-sponsors and will be reporting from the event. BMI will also be hosting a panel discussion on the media’s involvement in advancing alarmism. Those who challenge the popular theories that humans are causing global warming or that climate change will lead to catastrophic events are often ignored by the media or branded as “skeptics,” “cynics” or “deniers.” The media have been eager to report on climate change throughout modern history, alternating between the imminent threat of global cooling and global warming in the past century. The recent trend in media-driven global warming alarmism has seen the media glorifying crusaders like former Vice President Al Gore while vilifying -- or ignoring -- scientists and others who don’t buy into the hype.

POPSMoney and the Bible You already know I post often about being a good steward with money, tithing, and giving, as well as about how to generate income. Money and the Bible is written specifically to help us as Christians deal with our finances in a way that is pleasing to God and which follows Biblical guidelines. It's been my experience that handling finances this way leads to prosperity. More than that, it leads to personal satisfaction that I've done things rightly, ethically, and Scripturally.

POPSThe middle class at risk More from Elizabeth Warren of The Two-Income Trap. She basically argues that consumer bankruptcies mostly result from illness, layoffs, or divorce, and that economic shifts have left middle-class families with considerably less disposable income than a generation or two ago. Check out the graph. It's pretty sobering.
