POPSDo not deny what happened at Ft. Hood FTA: "Getting at Islamist cells, to say nothing of lone, self-appointed jihadis within our society, means getting over the false sentimentality that turns a terrorist incident into an "incomprehensible tragedy" when it is not incomprehensible, and not a theatrical event." "We'd be better off confronting that Islamist enemy, than spraying perfume after each fatal strike." Long article but worth the read.

POPSOlympic Flashback: '02 Salt Lake Games Tainted By Scandal, Bribery and Glenn Beck's Church
Almost as soon as Romney took the job, however, the Mormon Church's role in the Games became a source of contention - a dispute exacerbated by Romney's request for an additional $8 million in loaned property and cash from the church, among other contributions. Utah's wealthiest businessman, Jon Huntsman Sr., the father of Utah's current governor, assailed Romney for exploiting his ties to the church. Huntsman himself is prominent in the Mormon Church, which is officially known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. ''We've got a chairman who is active LDS, now we've got a present CEO who is active LDS,'' Huntsman was quoted in the Salt Lake Tribune as saying of Garff and Romney. ''They claim they're going out really scour the world to find the best person, and Mitt brings in one of his cronies to be the COO. Another broken promise. Because we've got three LDS folks who are all cronies. Cronyism at its peak. ..... These are not the Mormon Games.'

POPSRecycling Nasties After the other bunny clip, I just had to clip this one! It is just incredible what is in an artist's eye. Who would EVER think that something so sweet could be made of such nasty contents. UGH ! The next time I see some character digging in the ashtrays outside the store, I'll remember this story, and wonder.

POPSSmell the Roses (or Coffee)!
Who hasn't taken a trip down memory lane with a mere whiff of a familiar scent? Whether it's the woodsy smell of some old furniture that reminds you of your wonderful time in grade school, or a particular cologne that fills you with the bittersweet memories of an old lover, scents have a powerful way of stopping us in our tracks and at times filling us up with rather intense emotions--both good or bad. Yes, it's not just the information that we recall with a scent, but more importantly the emotions that go along with the memory. According to the following article, scents go straight to the limbic system in the brain, the very place our emotions are triggered. Is it any wonder why aromatherapy is so effective in calming nerves and revitalizing one's energy? Of course, it helps that when we smell something pleasant, we take in slower, deeper breaths--often the very action that soothes us and clears our mind. So take your time when you wake up tomorrow and smell the rich, texture

POPSSmells -- even smells we don't notice -- affect our judgment of others Next, these same volunteers were asked to rate photos of faces for likability. Before rating a face, they took a sniff from a random unlabeled bottle (from one of the four weak solutions), and indicated whether they detected an odor. Then they saw the face and rated how likable they thought the person depicted was. So even though the odor was undetectable, did it have an affect on likability?
