Why Americans Should Never Be Allowed To Travel
swampfoxz
by swampfoxz  1-8-2008    5
A woman called to make reservations, "I want to go from Chicago to Hippopotamus, New York" The agent was at a loss for words. Finally, the agent: "Are you sure that's the name of the town?" "Yes, what flights do you have?" replied the customer. After some searching, the agent came back with, "I'm sorry, ma'am, I've looked up every airport code in the country and can't find a Hippopotamus anywhere." The customer retorted, "Oh don't be silly. Everyone knows where it is. Check your map!" The agent scoured a map of the state of New York and finally offered, "You don't mean Buffalo, do you?" "That's it! I knew it was a big animal!"

Coke man punched out by Pepsi delivery man
pokkets
by pokkets  10-13-2007    5
It was classified as common assault even though the Coke man's nose got broken. Coke don't want to talk about it, and there have been no charges laid. Seems if you're a Pepsi man, you can break someone's nose, in front of many witnesses, and only be described as a known suspect. A man who pushed a clerk while stealing a donut was charged with a felony, and given $ 100,000 bail. perfect sense.

The Economics Of Prostitution
dakotayii
by dakotayii  4-25-2008    1
Edlund and Korn admit that spouses and streetwalkers aren't exactly alike. Wives, in truth, are superior to whores in the economist's sense of being a good whose consumption increases as income rises--like fine wine. This may explain why prostitution is less common in wealthier countries. But the implication remains that wives and whores are--if not exactly like Coke and Pepsi--something akin to champagne and beer. The same sort of thing. As with Becker, a key differentiator in Edlund and Korn's model is reproductive sex. Wives can offer it, whores can not. Why do hookers make so much money? According to data assembled- "Combine this with the fact that marriage can be an important source of income for women, and it follows that prostitution must pay better than other jobs to compensate for the opportunity cost of forgone-marriage market earnings,

Wil S**t Hapen?
Jorjor
by Jorjor  8-21-2008    6
This smacks of petty paranoia. Comments at the source offered some creative solutions: "waterguns full of bleach or urine, just like releasing poisonous snakes, just like the balloons filled with hydrochloric acid... this is just police fantasy. There is a big difference between being prepared for a situation and preparing for a fictional tactic that you came up with yourself" "Carry empty buckets and fill them on-site. Ex-Lax helps. " I can see it now: "Is that a bucket of feces?" "No, officer. It's a firkin of feces." "Oh. Okay, then."

Identity Politics — It's What's for Dinner In Denver
merrie
by merrie  8-25-2008    2
For a campaign that promised post-racial politicking, its candidate and surrogates haven't been above race-baiting at the drop of a hat. This goes hand in hand with Obama's repeated baseless smears of John McCain as a racist. Emil Jones just followed Obama's lead, as Obama has followed his. Post racial = everybody is a racist, so the word no longer has any meaning?

Flood victims say FEMA is doing a heckuva job
jatfla
by jatfla  6-24-2008
Since FEMA received mega-press for it's perceived failures during the Hurricane, it seemed fair to post a clip that gives the organization some praise for doing a good job. However, I believe the magnitude and circumstances are entirely different. I am still amazed by a government/Country who will so willingly hand out millions of dollars to its citizens who have lost homes and property in these *natural* disasters.
