Drowning in Debt
sahara
by sahara  11-7-2009
This is from Ross Perot's site (remember him?). One of the comments at the site that I thought was really good: "Our dollar is backed by faith, how much faith is left? Sheesh, they’re going to run out of paper, granted it’s all electronic transfer so maybe not. But man, I just don’t see how catastrophic inflation isn’t a forgone conclusion at this point."

Mother who died trying to save son from blaze after firework was pushed through letterbox
foxyarse
by foxyarse  11-7-2009
Tonight Mrs Fox's family paid tribute to their "loving and caring" mother who devoted her life to her children and "would give her last penny" to help people in need. She had eight other children aged between 20 and their mid-thirties. In a statement, they said: 'We, the sons and daughters of Mary, would like to thank everyone for their kind words at this difficult time.

It's the Spending, Stupid By John Stossel
merrie
by merrie  10-7-2009    1
But the income tax is big and visible, so it's a problem that a growing number of people don't pay, but get benefits from those who do. Frederic Bastiat, the great 19th-century French economist, defined the state as "that great fiction by which everyone tries to live at the expense of everyone else." I don't know if he envisioned one half of the population living off the other half. It's important not to confuse the interests of the taxpayers with the interests of the politicians and other tax consumers. Yet that is done all the time. When the government bought toxic assets (of zero market value) from the banks, it said taxpayers would profit when the economy recovered and the assets once again commanded a positive price in the market. Even if we make the dubious assumption that the government is savvy enough to buy low and sell high, it's not the taxpayers who would benefit from any profits. The politicians will spend every penny, rather than cutting taxes.

The investigations boss said that as many as 100 women, their whereabouts could not be known to date. At least 36 women have gone missing in the last three weeks alone. Researchers from the University of Wisconsin, Manitoba in Canada are also under investigations. How To Kill New York
ColoradoRight
by ColoradoRight  9-24-2009
SEPTEMBER 16, 2009: FBI agents with bomb-sniffing dogs Wednesday raided the Colorado apartment of an Afghan national linked to Al Qaeda and a plot to attack the New York City subway system.... In the past three days, the NYPD increased its attention to the subway system and its 5.2 million daily riders. Officers were warned to keep an eye out for vans near transportation hubs such as Grand Central, police sources said. The safety zone around subway and commuter stations also was expanded by two blocks, the sources said. Interesting little thought exercise - done in 2004

those dollars were misused in anyway." "I am heartened by the agreement of the Treasury Department's Inspector General to examine the troubling financial questions that have been raised about ACORN," said Senator Collins. "This is the first step in the right direction toward much-needed transparency. As I've noted before, at a time when so many American families are facing difficult economic situations, it is completely unacceptable that even one penny of taxpayer money be misused. We must bring all agencies and groups that use taxpayer funds into the spotlight of accountability." Last week, Senator Collins and Rep. Issa made a formal joint request that seven Offices of Inspectors General, including Treasury, probe the activities of ACORN, a community advocacy organization. By Matthew Vadum

An Update on Barry's Hut Brother
merrie
by merrie  9-16-2009    2
RUSH: I'm still pondering here, ladies and gentlemen, because it is a big mystery. Why it is that Obama refuses to help his brother in Kenya living in the hut and why the family has been waiting with their hands out for four five years, since 2004, since he was first elected to the US Senate. Not a penny, nothing. And we're sitting here trying to think, "Why?" And one thing is obviously there's no magic in helping family members overseas. Maybe it's racism. No, no, no. I'm serious. Obama is half white. Maybe his half-white side is to blame here. The family's... Well, look, I'm at the bottom of the barrel here trying to come up with logical explanations here. I'm just going on Newsweek, that we're all born racists -- and Obama had "a typical white grandmother." Those are his own words. Maybe the half-white side's winning out here. There's a dual battle going on inside the cranium there.

Profitable Until Deemed Illegal
aklimento

Surfing Internet you can stumble on this site, if didn't yet by some luck; their ads popping up everywhere, they do not saving on advertisement. How many times con artists will teach us to be vigilant and taste waters before getting in? They feel themselves free in virtual space with scores at their disposal. But good folks will always defeat evil, we can use opportunity to quickly share our experience and warn each other. Or even get organized for impending lawsuit. Don't fall victims of fraudsters, don't let evil reign. They skillfully take advantage of weaknesses of human nature, even worst, incite and inflame them for the profit at any price. Isn't it similar to what was done to all us recently?

Free Speech to be Curtailed at Winter Olympics 2010 in Vancouver

"The bylaw relaxes rules for Games-related events, limits free expression and speech in public and private spaces, and grants sweeping discretionary powers to Mayor Gregor Robertson and City Manager Penny Ballem to do whatever is "warranted," "necessary or desirable" to ensure the Olympics' "safety and security" and "protection of commercial rights."" This very open to abuse and should be examined cautiously by anyone planning to attend.

Treasury, FDIC And More: How Many Lies?
merrie
by merrie  8-16-2009    2
This usually occurs when a bidder for the failed bank is willing to pay a higher price for the entire deposit franchise. We are authorized to deviate from the "least cost" resolution only where a so-called "systemic risk" exception is made. This is an extraordinary procedure which we have never invoked. And again, any money we borrow from the Treasury Department must be repaid through industry assessments. I am confident in the strength of the FDIC's resources to make good on our sacred pledge to insured depositors. And, remember, no depositor has ever lost a penny of insured deposits, and never will. Note that bolded text. See, this is the second lie. Yes, the FDIC is required to follow the "least cost resolution" process, but what's being left out is that the FDIC (along with OTS and OCC) are also required to follow "Prompt Corrective Action" which serves as a means of preventing losses from happening in the first place. Yet the history of this crisis proves . . .
