POPSThe 79 Billion Dollar Climate Scam Skeptics Handbook II! Global Bullies Want Your Money Finally, Part II in the Skeptics Handbook series – the bluster and bluff, the deceit, and the money. Enjoy & Share. * The short synopsis of how we paid to find a crisis. * The one flaw that wipes out the catastrophe. (They can be right about carbon but wrong about water… and that eliminates two-thirds of their predicted warming.) * Nine behaviours of the real deniers — there are lots of ways to deny the evidence. * How carbon dioxide greens the world, why clouds dominate the climate, and if carbon didn’t cause the recent warming, what else might have? *The short summary of the baseless hockey stick graph, with a devastating map of the vast array of peer reviewed information that demonstrates just how brazen the Hockey Stick “re-interpretation” of history was.

POPSBegone Heathens!!! From the comments: "Quick question. Does "any form of mysticism are represented" mean Christianity too? Because one definition of mysticism, from wiki, is "(from the Greek μυστικός, mystikos, an initiate of a mystery religion) is the pursuit of communion with, identity with, or conscious awareness of an ultimate reality, divinity, spiritual truth, or God through direct experience, intuition, instinct or insight." If it doesn't include Christianity, does that mean that symbolically eating the flesh and drinking the blood of your God, lighting candles, praying to dead people, chanting, performing hour or two hour long ceremonies lead by a man or woman dressed in funny robes, forming small groups to discuss sacred texts, believing that the dead will rise, marking your forehead with ash and speaking in tongues is ok, else you are wiccan?"

POPSWhy is sexual assault investigated differently from other crimes? More: Dr. Lisak, by the way, appears to be the best ally to and advocate for survivors of sexual assault that I've never heard of. In the past hour, I've found this rape fact sheet that he prepared containing a metric fuckton of good information, multiple presentations (pdf) and papers (pdf), a submission to an anthology on "Confronting Rape and Sexual Assault," and an unflinching critique of "Male Gender Socialization and the Perpetuation of Sexual Abuse." This is a man who knows how to work a goddamned teaspoon. Thanks, Dr. Lisak. Couldn't make the links to Dr. Lisak's Google Books excerpts work – click through for those.

POPSglobal temperature variations are dictated by ENSO Observations indicate that global temperature rise has slowed in the last decade. The least squares trend for January 1999 to December 2008 calculated from the HadCRUT3 dataset (Brohan et al. 2006) is +0.07±0.07°C decade–1—much less than the 0.18°C decade–1 recorded between 1979 and 2005. El Niño–Southern Oscillation is a strong driver of interannual global mean temperature variations. ENSO and non-ENSO ontributions can be separated by the method of Thompson et al. The trend in the ENSO-related component for 1999–2008 is +0.08±0.07°C decade–1, fully accounting for the overall observed trend. The trend after removing ENSO (the "ENSO-adjusted" trend) is 0.00°±0.05°C decade–1, implying much greater disagreement with anticipated global temperature rise.
