POPSNew row over Colombia-US accord Venezuela has broken off diplomatic relations with Bogota and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has warned that Colombian military bases could be used by the US to attack his country. Other countries in the region, including Brazil and Chile, have also expressed concern. The BBC's Jeremy McDermott, in Colombia, says Colombia is increasingly isolated in the region, but does not seem to care, just so long as it has US support.

POPS... 2D barcode ad campaign ... A few years ago I was shown an application that could generate URLs from pictures of a company's logos. We subsequently found ourselves discussing the possibility of "recognizing" Chinese and Japanese characters this way, in order to help western tourists. International road signs could also be "translated". Recently, it has become possible to display a "boarding pass" bar code on your cell phone at the airport. Obviously these types of applications are now starting to emerge (finally).

POPSPutting the "P" in Productivity
The one who spends an entire meeting checking email also does some damage, as does the person who reads their email and Tweets his buddies while you are talking with them on the phone. In other words, their bad habits ruin their chances of being productive, and the latest technology only makes it easier for them to include others in the destruction. I worked with a telecom company once in the late 1990’s in which everyone had a cell-phone. That was not a problem by itself. Unfortunately, their executives developed a bad habit of answering the device whenever it rang, regardless of what else was happening around them. This meant that in any meeting, anyone could disappear into their cell-phones, even if they happened to be speaking. They’d simply stop in mid-sentence and answer their phone… without knowing who was calling. The effect when they returned was predictable — “What was I saying again?” As a result, meetings would drag, taking twice as long as they required.

POPSMemory Switch Could Enable Brain Hacks Won't be bad to get hold of some of our brain master switches. A memory activation switch, a switch for forgetting certain memories, a switch to make negative emotions go away , a light switch for insight and creative feats and from there the sky is the limit...

POPSGay Smoochie Sparks 911 Call "Yes, they sent a patrol car down there, and the officer, after calling his superior (the Birmingham PD was in on the 20/20 experiment) backed down, but told the couple Just don’t do that in public. The remarks of two Birmingham women passersby when 20/20 has a lesbian couple sit on the bench are predictable. That’s below the fold. When Leslie and Ashby sit, hold hands and snuggle, two local women volunteer their thoughts about the PDA: “I just don’t want to see the same sex kissing.” “It’s not what we say, it’s what God says. The chances of them going to heaven may not be very good if they continue this lifestyle.” Am I surprised? No. There are definitely some places in my home state that I would NEVER do a public display of affection with another woman. However, I can easily do the same display of affection with my husband and that is what bothers me. It all comes down to what is acceptable to society. What a shame.
