Haste makes waste. It can also make very entertaining typos. It takes a keen eye (or a Jay Leno Show intern) to spot the exceptional gem on a takeout menu or expose the unintentional comedy amongst rambling food metaphors.

Backupify: Online Account Backup "Free Forever For A Limited Time"
merrie
by merrie  1-2-2010    2
Backupify is currently offering free unlimited accounts to anyone who signs up before January 31st. I confirmed that these free accounts will remain free forever even after their new pricing scheme goes into effect. You also may want to consider that the Backupify service needs your login information for each of the accounts it is going to perform automatic backups on. If, for some reason your Backupify account were ever compromised it could lead to your other accounts being compromised as well. Backupify only stores physical passwords for certain sites that require it such as Gmail. With other sites they only store the password token or cookie that is necessary to login to your account. In any case Backupify states that they, "use advanced encryption methods to keep your login credentials safe."

I would guess that many of these passwords were taken from published lists of passwords used when cracking accounts. If you currently use passwords which resemble any of these listed below, I'd encourage you to change them as soon as possible.

Get Gmail Tasks on Your Desktop With Google Chrome
merrie
by merrie  11-5-2009    5
Google Chrome has the slick ability to turn any page or site into its own application, similar to Fluid on Mac OS X. With Chrome, we can turn Tasks into a standalone app with just a few clicks. I find it handy to have my to-do list separate so I don’t get distracted with e-mail or Google Chat while I’m working. More about Gmail Tasks. Get Google Chrome. Securing the Web
merrie
by merrie  10-17-2009    1
(These types of security checks operate in the background: they don't require you, for instance, to reenter your user name and password.) Many web applications also "sanitize" data posted by their subscribers: if a friend posts something to your social-network page, the application probably won't show you the post without inspecting it for malicious code. "We've looked at a lot of these web applications, and there's literally hundreds of places where these checks happen," says Nickolai Zeldovich, an assistant professor in MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab. Indeed, Zeldovich and his colleagues identified one popular web application that sanitized data in more than 1,400 places (but still had about 60 security holes). They also, however, identified a feature that web application security checks usually had in common: "Namely," Zeldovich says, "it's that the same data is being handled in all these hundreds of places."

Google targeted in e-mail scam
kkcapricorn
by kkcapricorn  10-6-2009
Other addresses include Comcast and Earthlink accounts. It is not clear whether the new list was part of the same phishing attack that collected the Hotmail addresses or a separate scam. "Our guidance to customers is to exercise extreme caution when opening unsolicited attachments and links from both known and unknown sources, and that they install and regularly update their anti-virus software." security expert Graham Cluley of Sophos advised users to change their passwords as soon as possible. "I'd also recommend that people change the password on any other site where they use it," he said. About 40% of people had the same password for every website they used, he added.

The possibilities of this new application are infinite. It can be even used to further discussion a topic on amplify. Savor Chat is a chat room application that lets you easily build a chat bridge between Facebook and Twitter Friends. You can keep your room private and limit it to those with a password. The room can also be made public if you wish. The beauty of Savor is that you can create multiple rooms for almost any subject, event, or interest. A Chat room can be open indefinitely or just for an hour, which is great for a meeting. The host of the room can purge all messages when they are finished with the chat. One can even delete the room if it was just a one time event. Savor Chat keeps a list of your rooms, so you can easily manage them. It also keeps a list of rooms recently visited, which makes it nice, so you can return. Opening different rooms in your browser tabs will let you participate in multiple chats at the same time. Clicking on the "who's online" wil
