POPSBush does not deserve credit for our security continued from source.... by ANY government and has severely weakened the US dollar... leading to catastrophically high oil and commodity prices. US presence in the world has been diminished by the struggle in Iraq. Russia and Iran both see the US as a toothless tiger, and Russia basically proved it recently in Georgia.. Putin basically said (without saying it) , the US can't touch me.. they're in debt, their military is stretched thin, and I'm running the biggest oil producing country on the planet.. they wouldn't dare.. and he was right.. and Iran knows pretty much the same thing.. and this is a DIRECT result of the fiasco in Iraq. The Bush years have weakened the US while strengthening our most dangerous enemies.

POPSAfghans Fed Up With Government, US A strong sense of frustration echoed through dozens of interviews by The Associated Press with Afghan villagers, police, government officials, tribal elders and Taliban who left and rejoined the religious movement. The interviews ranged from the capital, Kabul, to the rural regions near the border with Pakistan. The overwhelming result: Ordinary Afghans are deeply bitter about American and NATO forces because of errant bombs, heavy-handed searches and seizures and a sense that the foreigners do not understand their culture. They are equally fed up with what they see as seven years of corruption and incompetence in a U.S.-backed government that has largely failed to deliver on development. Even with more foreign troops, Afghanistan is now less secure.

POPSScott Ritter Rips Obama and McCain on War Policy Powerful refutation of McCain and Obama's assessment of Iran and the "war on terrorism" in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the way it is being portrayed to the public. Democrats in particular should see that Obama and McCain's policies (now) are very close, and not based upon credible threats, much like Iraq. (Ritter is a republican and former Marine and the former UN weapons inspector in Iraq.) If you listen on REAL video or audio his interview begins at the 42:10 mark. This same podcast also includes excerpts from Ron Paul's counter-convention.

POPSPakistan Furious Over U.S. Insurgency Everything that Bush accused Russia of (not respecting sovereignty of Georgia) suddenly does not apply. Every invasion of Bush's imperial storm troopers (or under Clinton too for that matter, like Kosovo) is always justified, and any other country acting in self-defense or to defend their jurisdictions (e.g. Russia-S. Ossetia) is condemned. And for you hypocritical democrats who want Obama, he already stated he would do the very same thing, invade Pakistan for the "war on terrorism"! (Objective commentary based on principle must spare none who violate it). The hypocrisy is self evident, yet the MSM does not expose it. The wars will NEVER end until the people make the government stop and refuse to support ANY leader who violates the very restrictive principles of just war and the Constitution.

POPSU.S. Forces Conduct Offensive in Pakistani Border Region This is, however, a sensitive issue. It is assumable that the moderates within the Pakistani government want the Taliban removed from Southern Waziristan. The problem is the more hardline elements of the Pakistani citizenry are sure to be unhappy about this. The unrest amongst the fundamentalists combined with the corrupt officials and Taliban sympathizers within the Pakistani government creates a unique situation that must be handled delicately. But this does not discount the need for military action in Southern Waziristan.

POPSThe Problem Is Empire (cont.)I am campaigning for and voting for Barack Obama not because I agree with him on every foreign policy issue but because I think we need to unleash the energy of those who fight for justice and housing and healthcare and jobs and the environment here at home. The Obama movement is registering and mobilizing millions of new voters, young people, working class, people of color and poor. The mere fact of their being mobilized will create a pressure for new priorities on the economic home front against the present priorities of militarization abroad. The fact that Obama rose to his present position on the tide of antiwar sentiment forces Obama and the Congressional Democrats to pay greater attention to our needs at home or pay a political price. If he expands the quagmires in Afghanistan and Pakistan, we will have to oppose those wasteful wars as well.

POPSLife Of Her Party "When McCain gets in trouble, he pulls out the P.O.W. card. Now Republicans are pulling out the sexist card. But when you use sexism as an across-the-board shield for any legitimate question, you only hurt women. And that’s just another splash of reality."

POPSPakistan's PM Gilani's motorcade attacked. "The prime minister was coming back from Lahore. The firing took place on the Islamabad highway. At this point, we believe the firing was from a small hill on the roadside." A statement issued by the prime minister's office said: "Of the multiple sniper shots fired on the prime minister's vehicle, two hit the window on the driver's side. "However, because of the robust and comprehensive security measures, the prime minister and all the members of his motorcade remained unharmed."

POPSUSA ground troops attack in Pakistan village? Sad. Tragic. Annoying. No. #1) The use of the term: "Afghan coalition forces." Other stories say: "NATO forces." In reality, if this was done it was done by USA troops but like in Iraq they say "Coalition Forces," when there is no real coalition: There are approx 158,000 USA troops, 140,000 USA paid mercenaries and 'private security contractors,' 3 troops from Latvia, 11 soldiers from Moldova, , 37 fine men from the Ukraine, 40 soldiers from Estonia, 70 fighting Albanians, etc. -- all of them pressured or bribed to participate except for Merry Old England with 5,500 approx. troops, loyal Australia with 900 -- (& 2,000 Georgians now gone). Some "coalition." No. #2) Who is this soldier? Since he appears to have a M-16 is he American? Where are his identifying patches? Why face hidden? Thus, in fact, thus, he's an 'unlawful enemy combatant." This is a sad and tragic photo for a U.S. fighting man. Looks like the KKK

POPSPakistan Honor Killing Religion continues to wreck its havoc around the world. This time, under the guise of "tribal custom" the brutal murder of 5 women in Pakistan has come to the forefront. No longer can we accept the excuse that certain practices are custom or tradition. These acts of barbarity must be made public and soundly condemned.

POPSPakiston ruling coalition splits after six months Zardari is the Peoples Party's candidate to replace Musharraf as president. Now that he appears to be the front-runner, the Peoples Party is in no hurry to take away the president's power to dissolve Parliament – another sticking point with Sharif. "Zardari becoming the president would be the most unfortunate event in Pakistan's history," said engineer Raheel Rehman, 27. "A thug is going to be the president of this country," said palm reader Tawakkul Hussain, 35. "We have no options ahead of us. Once again, they are taking turns in power. This is Zardari's turn. After that, it will be Nawaz's turn. He is equally irresponsible and corrupt." The provincial and national assemblies will vote for the president Sept. 6.
