ofcapri
by ofcapri  7-2-2009
Be extra vigilant with older and overweight dogs as they are more prone to overheat. In a real emergency wet your dog thoroughly and use a household fan to blow cool air over their head and body. Seek urgent veterinary attention. If your dog shows signs of distress – such as excessive panting, blueness of the tongue or collapse contact your local vet immediately.

Ultrathin films form 'warm' superconductors
pokkets
by pokkets  10-8-2008
Superconductors are particularly efficient, because they can carry a current, with very little 'resistance' where much energy can be lost in the form of heat.

jt3600
by jt3600  9-5-2008    1
Batteries to hot for the laptop and to hot for your lap as well. I've said it before you can only download so much porn onto those before it burst into flames and if it's gay porn the flames will be much higher and brighter.

Your own personal nuclear reactor: Toshiba Micro Nuclear
enbar
by enbar  12-19-2007    2
Toshiba's new "micro" nuclear reactor is 20'x6', completely self-contained, and (they say) completely safe. (Presumably it still generates dangerous waste, however...) Want one of these in your basement?

WSJ Says ChinaBanks Freezing All Loans
davboz
by davboz   11-18-2007
Bloomberg says it is NOT true. Just hearing that while clipping this. If China markets do not crash on Monday, I guess we can assume they did not freeze loans. Quite a story on the front page of the Wall Street Journal, though.

New Army Helicopter overheats
pokkets
by pokkets  11-9-2007    5
They overheat at 80 degrees Farenheit. So much for Iraq. The Helicopters cost $2.6 Billion, and are being fitted with $10 million dollars worth of air conditioners. The Army says it will come out of their budget. That shouldn't be a problem? Where do they get their money? A bottomless pit?

A Troubled River Mirrors China’s Path to Modernity
haraya
by haraya  11-19-2006
From one bend of the river to the next, and the next, an evolutionary chain emerges: nomad to farmer, farm to factory and factory to city. It is the kind of change that other countries have navigated over centuries. In China, it is happening all at the same time. The Yellow River, then, is like a path into the future. To follow it is to watch China’s struggle to get there. Another long and interesting article.
